Volunteer Shift Options for New Volunteers at The DoSeum

Position: Event/Materials Preparation

Summary: Volunteers will perform simple tasks to help prepare for special events, programming, and other DoSeum hosted events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• May vary on department needs, but overall:

o Assist admin staff with prep of materials.

o Assist with event space set-up

Shift Dates:

Flexible. You will be able to schedule at any time you need. However, shifts are only available as needed. The Volunteer Coordinator usually sends out invites to these opportunities.

Position: Special Events Facilitator

Summary: The person in this role will assist in the facilitation of special events as needed. Volunteers will attend the gallery and engage with guests during the event, facilitate activities or workshops, or complete certain tasks as needed by requesting staff.

Shift Dates:

• Varies. Shift dates and times for this opportunity can vary depending on the event. The Volunteer Coordinator usually sends out invites to these opportunities.

o Shift Times during Extended Hours (Dates that are bolded above):  6:15 PM to 9:00 PM

Position: Campus Comfort/Facilities Maintenance

Summary: The individual in this role will be assisting the Facilities Department as they see fit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist our Facilities Department with cleaning and sanitizing of exhibits and props.

Shift Dates:

• Flexible. You will be able to schedule at any time you need. However, shifts are only available as need ed. The Volunteer Coordinator will send out invites to these opportunities

Position: Gallery Attendant

Summary: The individual in this role will provide excellent customer service and be the face of The DoSeum by engaging with guests and creating memorable experiences. This individual will work closely with our Experience Engineers. Volunteers can choose from different areas and galleries of the museum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Engage with guests, answering questions and wayfinding.

• Facilitate and demonstrate exhibits through play and positive interactions with guests in gallery spaces.

• Assist The DoSeum staff (Experience Engineers) as necessary.

• Reset exhibit props and gallery area, help maintain a clean and safe space for guests’ enjoyment.

• Reinforce the three favors.

• Create memorable experiences for guests.

Shift Dates:

• Flexible. We offer these shifts every day in 2 to 3- hour increments, except on days we are closed.

o Shift Times during Standard Hours (Closed on Tuesdays):

 10 AM to 12 PM

 12 PM to 2:30 PM

 2:30 PM to 5 PM

o Shift Times during Extended Hours (Spring, Summer, and Winter Break. Open on Tuesdays):

 9 AM to 12 PM

 12 PM to 3 PM

 3 PM to 6 PM

Position: Free Family Nights

Summary: The person in this role will assist in the facilitation of Free Family Nights. This event happens on the first Monday of each month in the evening. Volunteers will attend the gallery and engage with guests during the event, facilitate activities or workshops, collecting guest zip codes, attend to the check-in line, or complete certain tasks as needed by Managers on Duty.

Shift Dates:

• First Monday of each month. (1/05, 2/02, 3/02, 4/06, 5/04, 6/01, 7/06, 8/03, 9/07, 10/05, 11/02, 12/07)

o Shift Times during Standard Hours:

 5:15 PM to 8:00 PM

Position: Art Program Facilitator

Summary: The individual in this role will provide excellent customer service and be the face of The DoSeum by engaging guests and assisting staff during our Artist Workshop (for ages 6 and above) and Little Artist Workshop (for ages 5 and under).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Engage with guests, answering questions and directing guests.

• Facilitate activities dealing with different forms of art media.

• Assist Experience Engineer staff to conduct Art Studio programming.

• Maintain a clean and organized working space for guests cleaning and return all art supplies to their proper location following program completion

• Prototype program activities

• Create positive, memorable experiences for guests.

Shift Dates:

• Specific Days. We offer the Artist Workshops on Sundays, and we offer the Little Artist Workshops on Fridays and Sundays.

o Shift Times for Little Artist Workshops:

 Fridays from 10 AM to 1 PM

 Sundays from 11:30AM to 2:30PM

o Shift Times for Artist Workshops:

 Sundays from 2 PM to 5 PM

Position: Maker Workshop Facilitator

Summary: The individual in this role will provide excellent customer service and be the face of The DoSeum by engaging guests and assisting staff during our Maker Workshop (for ages 6 and above) and Little Maker Workshop (for ages 5 and under).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Engage with guests, answering questions and directing guests.

• Facilitate activities dealing with different forms of art mediums.

• Assist Experience Engineer staff to conduct Maker Workshops.

• Maintain a clean and organized working space for guests, cleaning and returning all supplies to their proper location following the program’s completion.

• Create positive, memorable experiences for guests.

Shift Dates:

• Specific Days. We offer the Maker Workshops on Saturdays, and we offer the Little Maker Workshops on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

o Shift Times for Little Maker Workshops:  Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM

o Shift Times for Maker Workshops:  Saturdays from 4 PM to 5:30 PM

As you volunteer more with The DoSeum, you will be able to sign up and train for more specific shifts. Examples include Gallery Floater, Birthday Party Attendant, Admin Receptionist, and many more!
