Since their first event in 2002, Breast Cancer Now has raised over £31.5 million, and on October 19th you can help contribute even more to their fantastic cause. Meteorites land at Ditcham Park School Pupils from Ditcham Park School got their hands on rare samples of moon rocks and meteorites at an exciting and awe inspiring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Fair held at the school at the end of term. These included a 1.2 billion-year-old piece of Mars rock and a 4.3 billion-year-old meteorite. The lunar samples were collected in the 1960s and 1970s during NASA’s first space missions. Begin by gently simmering 2-litres of traditional cider on a low heat. You could use apple cider, or even experiment with a pear flavour. Leave the cider to warm all the way through for a few minutes. Next, gradually add the sugar to the cider. Depending on how sweet you’d like to the drink to be, we recommend around 75 grams in total.

One thing that always signifies the beginning of winter to us is that first sip of something mulled. Whether we’re huddled around the fire with our slippers on and favourite mug in hand, or pottering around Christmas markets in our warmest coat with our hands clasped around a takeaway cup, there is something magical about a warm alcoholic drink. Now is the time to indulge in mulled drinks of all varieties, and especially this season’s must-have mulled drink which is cider!

Cut two large oranges in half, and squeeze the juice into the mix. TOP TIP: Save the skin of the oranges to use as a garnish – simply wrap the skin around a straw, hold in place for a few seconds, and you’ll have your own spiral decoration! For the final festive touch, stir in two teaspoons of vanilla essence, a cinnamon stick, and some finely grated nutmeg. As the nights draw in and the temperature drops, it’s time to heat up your pan and create a new winter dish filled with a warming fusion of sweet and spicy ingredients. This ‘Sweet Potato Risotto’ is a healthier alternative to the classic risotto, with a delightful combination of sweet potatoes and peppers, and complimentary spices.

Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees. Peel 2-3 sweet potato spuds, and chop roughly. Part boil the potato for around 10 minutes, and then take off the heat and drain. Dice the potatoes into bite-sized squares, and spread out onto a baking tray. Lightly cover with oil, and season with salt, pepper and paprika. Roast for 30 minutes, or until the potato begins to brown. While the potato cooks, simmer vegetable stock over a low heat, and fry onions and diced red pepper in a little butter until the onion turns translucent and the peppers begin to soften. Add salt, pepper and paprika to the onion mix, and fry for another 2 minutes.

Take the pan off the heat, and leave to rest for 2 minutes. Dish the risotto into bowls, and sprinkle with goat’s cheese. Rate our risotto? MP MEETING DELIVERS PROGRESS ON THE FUTURE OF EMSWORTH VICTORIA COTTAGE HOSPITAL Progress has been made on the future of the Emsworth Victoria Cottage Hospital after local, MP Alan Mak organised a positive meeting. The meeting at the Emsworth Baptist Church was attended by all the key stakeholders including the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, NHS Property Services, the owners of the building; the Emsworth Medical Practice and Havant Borough Council, as well as local councillors and community group representatives from Emsworth. Mak said he was pleased with the progress that was made at the meeting and plans to host another in the coming

months to maintain momentum and check progress.

“After much work by all of those involved, I am pleased that we have agreed that there is potential for the Emsworth Victoria Cottage Hospital to be the site of the town’s new surgery.” He states: “I organised this meeting to open a dialogue between the doctors, community and NHS, and agree on a roadmap for the future, so I was delighted we achieved those aims. It was a very positive meeting, and we have taken a real positive step forward. He continues: “However, there is still a long way to go. It will only be successful if all of the stakeholders can keep aiming towards a common goal. I will continue to work hard to facilitate discussions and deliver this aim.”
