The Crypt School – Curriculum Options for GCSEs 2026-2028

The Crypt GCSE curriculum requires you to choose one of two pathways through GCSE:

Pathway 1 – The Combined Science Pathway

If students choose this route they will study:

● English Literature

● English Language

● Mathematics (top sets will also have the opportunity to sit Level 2 Further Mathematics)

● Combined Science (worth 2 GCSEs)

● Geography, History or Religious Studies

Students can also choose three further subjects. Students can opt for both geography, History and RS should they wish.

Pathway 2 – The Triple Science Pathway

If students choose this route they will study:

● English Literature

● English Language

● Mathematics (top sets will also have the opportunity to sit Level 2 Further Mathematics)

● Triple Science (This is a separate GCSE for biology, chemistry and physics and each is worth 1 GCSE)

● Geography, History or Religious Studies

Students can then choose two further subjects. Students can opt for both geography, history and RS should they wish. For either pathway chosen, all pupils will gain a minimum of 9 GCSEs.

Curriculum breadth

We encourage students studying either pathway to choose a Modern Foreign Language, so alongside a humanities subject, they are studying the range of subjects: these are the so-called ‘enabling’ subjects which will help prepare students for study at the top UK universities. Maintaining a broad and balanced curriculum also ensures students have more A-level options available to them in Year 12.

Pupils should choose no more than 2 practical subjects with coursework, as coursework workload in Year 11 tends to be significant.
