he Country Club was founded in 1889 in Glenville, Ohio (now Bratenhal) and was a short carriage ride from Cleveland. As America entered the 20th century, the membership realized the need for more space as the ever-expanding city was now encroaching upon the Club. Phillip Small was commissioned as the architect of the new clubhouse to be erected in its present day location of Pepper Pike, Ohio. In addition to a brand new clubhouse, William Flynn was selected to design the new golf course. On August 10, 1930, after a farewell party

at the old clubhouse, tours of the new facility began and the new clubhouse was officially opened. The Club’s golf course is a highly regarded William Flynn design and has played a part in many important golf events, including the 1935 US Amateur Championship won by Lawson Little and the 2012 US Women’s Amateur Championship, won by Lydia Ko. As a nationally recognized Platinum Club, Country is the preeminent club in northeast Ohio.
EXCELLENCE IN AMENITIES & FACILITIES As an almost 100 year-old building, the Phillip Small designed clubhouse underwent a significant clubhouse renovation in 20216 & 2017. This renovation included a new pool, an outdoor three-season bar, and dining area. Since then, the clubhouse has also undergone an over $11,000,000 clubhouse restoration in 2024 & 2025, completing crucial restorations to the multi-generational building and adding another full service indoor/ outdoor bar. In the summer of 2022, renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse was retained to complete a restoration of Country’s William Flynn designed golf course. Each hole was restored to more closely reflect William Flynn’s original design and improve playability across the entire course. Since then, the Club has had two holes included in the Top 100 Greatest Golf Holes in America ranked by Golf Digest, Hole #15 and Hole #17.

Country also hosts one of the nation’s finest paddle facilities. Opening in the winter of 2021, the Racquet House is home to four paddle courts, 6 pickleball courts, 6 Har-Tru tennis courts, 2 hard surface tennis courts, a large viewing deck with fire pit, a full contemporary event space, and a fullservice pro-shop. CALIBER OF STAFF & PROFESSIONAL SERVICE LEVELS • Country’s Director of Golf, Steve Bordner, is a 20-year member of the PGA of America, serving on the Northern Ohio PGA Board of Directors since 2024 and a Cochair of the NOPGA Tournament Committee. In 2025, he was named Northern Ohio PGA Golf Professional of the Year. • Robust Internship program which introduces students from across the Country to the hospitality industry. • Over 250 staff members during peak season, ranging in ages from 14 to 90. • Longest tenured employee achieving over 35 seasons of service. • Executive Chef, Scott Ryan, and Director of Catering & Events, Alisha Binder, both have over 15 years of service and experience at the Club. • Staff members have ties to the local community as well as the greater Cleveland area. This provides members with a personal touch and a sense of community at the Club.
ENGAGEMENT & COMMITMENT OF MEMBERSHIP • Over 600 member families • Employee & Caddie Scholarship Fund has awarded over $428,000 in scholarship money to Country employees • A robust event calendar featuring special dining events, junior sports camps and summer camps, golf and racquets events for all ages, and additional specialty social events throughout the year. • A July 4th Picnic hosting over 1,000 guests, with over 400 guests attending annual Mother’s Day Brunches, Wassail Bowls, and Easter Brunches. • Multiple member-led groups such as Mah Jongg, Bridge, Tennis and Pickleball
ADAPTING TO CHANGING TIMES • Golf course architect Gil Hanse was brought in to do a full golf course restoration in 2023. This restoration restored the William Flynn designed course to better reflect Flynn’s original design. • The clubhouse completed a full restoration in 2024, preserving the historical style and foundation of the clubhouse. The restoration also ensured the longevity of the historic clubhouse so that it can be enjoyed by generations to come. • Launched an updated Country mobile app is 2024. • Launched multiple new booking portals on the Club’s website so members can more easily make tee times and reservations for Racquet courts, overnight rooms, massage sessions, personal training sessions, and more. • Integrated to-go meal kits for holidays such as Thanksgiving, Easter, and Mother’s Day
