During the polio epidemic, Kettering Health’s founders, Eugene and Virginia Kettering, witnessed a different approach to healthcare. They observed at Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital near Chicago the difference compassionate, whole-person healthcare makes in a community.
Eugene and his wife, Virginia, sought to fulfill that vision by building a hospital dedicated to the same approach, which would serve as a living memorial to Eugene’s father, Charles F. Kettering, and his innovative spirit. For more than 50 years now, Kettering Health continues to stand at the unique intersection of innovation, healthcare, and hospitality—all while continuing to elevate the health and well-being of western Ohio’s excellent, diverse, and growing communities.
