In the most expansive lineup since our opening year, the new season includes more than 70 performances and two new series: The JPMorganChase Spotlight Series features performers and events that are not primarily musical, starting with an evening of behind-the-scenes stories from Police drummer Stewart Copeland on Aug. 2 and a performance by “psychic” comedian Peter Antoniou on Sept.10. The new Studio M Tribute Series comprises live celebrations of pop legends, starting Sept. 27 with the return of the Fleetwood Mac tribute Rumours ATL.
Once again, the new season starts with Songbook Academy in Concert on July 18, the culminating event of the Great American Songbook Foundation’s annual Songbook Academy® for the nation’s talented teen singers. This year, the City of Carmel has declared itself “Songbook City” for the month of July, recognizing our sister organization’s impact on local culture.
Over the past year, we’ve made many improvements around the campus to make your visit safer and more convenient. The number of accessible parking spaces around Carter Green has doubled and now includes five new van-sized spaces for groups. At the Payne & Mencias Palladium, touchless automatic door openers have been installed in restrooms, and a new Auracast assistive-listening system sponsored by Professional Hearing Services improves clarity and flexibility for the hard of hearing. At the Tarkington, handrails have been installed in the stairstep aisles of the theater, which also has dazzling new LED stage lighting.

CLOSES A STELLAR CAREER ON HIS OWN TERMS

Lou Gramm was a young singer in a tough spot when he got the call that changed his life.
Black Sheep, his band of chums from upstate New York, had a record deal and a tour booked with Kiss when their truck crashed on Christmas Eve 1975, destroying most of their equipment and scuttling their rock ’n’ roll dreams.
Meanwhile, British guitarist Mick Jones had landed in the Big Apple after leaving the band Spooky Tooth. Recruiting a new group, he reached out to Gramm, who had given him the Black Sheep albums at a Spooky Tooth show months earlier. The two quickly discovered a knack for writing songs with indelible riffs, catchy hooks and gritty vocals. The project, originally dubbed “Trigger,” settled into a lineup of three Brits and three Yanks who took the name “Foreigner.”

With disco and punk gaining commercial and critical attention, they weren’t sure if this mainstream rock formula would click, but they began writing and recording “like our lives depended on it” and shopping their tapes around to record labels, Gramm says in a phone interview,
“We got a lot of response that they thought we were a really good band, but we weren’t quite what they were looking for,” he recalls. “People didn’t know what the rock scene was anymore. So when we came out with a pure rock album, that was attitude-heavy and recorded and produced very well, and Atlantic Records got behind it, we were on our way.”
They certainly were. Starting with that self-titled debut album in 1977, Foreigner launched a barrage of hits that included the Top 10 singles “Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold as Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Urgent,” “Waiting for a Girl Like You” and the international smash “I Want to Know What Love Is,” later a source of contention over credits and royalties. Foreigner’s first six albums went Top 10 in the U.S., and the band has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide.
For his part, Gramm (born Louis Grammatico) is widely considered one of the greatest and most recognizable rock voices of his era. The web magazine Classic Rock ranked him second in its 2024 list of The 40 Best AOR (Album Oriented Rock) Vocalists of All Time, behind Journey’s Steve Perry and ahead of Boston’s Brad Delp. His first solo album – another point of friction with Jones – spawned the 1987 Top 5 single “Midnight Blue.” Gramm left Foreigner for the first time in 1990 but has maintained an intermittent relationship with the band over the years.

Later career highlights have included the 2013 induction of Jones and Gramm into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the 2024 induction of Foreigner – after 22 long years of eligibility – into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jones, who retired from touring due to Parkinson’s disease and now has Alzheimer’s, Gramm says, did not attend in person.
“But as soon as we were inducted, we called him from the stage and told him that we’re in, and he was very happy,” Gramm says.
Now, at 76, Gramm is closing the curtain on his own career with a longawaited third solo album and tour he vows will be his last. Released, which dropped in March, features 10 previously unreleased original songs written with longtime collaborator Bruce Turgon, who played bass in Black Sheep and later in Foreigner. Many tracks were recorded or at least initiated during the making of Gramm’s first two solo albums, and not surprisingly, they sound like vintage material.
Gramm will perform Sept. 26 at the Payne & Mencias Palladium with the Lou Gramm All-Stars, a lineup that includes some old friends as well as his brother Ben on drums. Fans can expect Foreigner classics, solo hits and “a couple songs that I’m pulling out of the woodwork,” he says.
Lou Gramm has continued his music pursuits despite battling a near-fatal brain tumor in the late 1990s. Along with co-writing most of Foreigner’s songs, he scored a Top 5 solo single in 1987 with “Midnight Blue.”
And he really means it: “At the end of this year, I’m coming off the road permanently.”
“Just like a ballplayer or anybody else, you got to know when to hang it up,” he says. “And I’ve got a very good album to promote as my final project, and I’m going to be doing shows with Foreigner too, so it’s going to be fun. After 54, 55 years, to see the finish line in front of me, it feels good to go for it.
“So, it’s been a long journey, ups and downs, but I really like the way it’s turned out.”

Celebrated as the “Voice of Generations,” Art Garfunkel is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, winner of eight Grammys (including the Lifetime Achievement Award) and one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. As co-founder of the folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, he shaped popular culture with songs such as “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson.” His solo hits have included “I Only Have Eyes for You,” “(What a) Wonderful World” and “All I Know.” Garfunkel also is a poet and actor, with films including Carnal Knowledge, Catch-22 and Bad Timing.

World-renowned drummer and composer Stewart Copeland will share stories from his acclaimed career on his first U.S. spoken-word tour, Have I Said Too Much – The Police, Hollywood, and Other Adventures. The evening will include conversation, video, rarely seen images and a Q&A session with Copeland, founder of the massively successful rock band the Police (with 75 million records sold), multiple Grammy winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, writer, filmmaker and composer of film scores, operas and video game soundtracks. He also has published two autobiographical books and recently led the Police Deranged for Orchestra tour, which played the Payne & Mencias Palladium in 2023.

The great ones endure, and Gladys Knight has long been one of the greatest. Very few singers over the last 60 years have matched her unassailable artistry. This seven-time Grammy Award winner has enjoyed #1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television and live performance. All told, Knight has recorded more than 38 albums and has continued to spread her acting wings. The mission of Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts is to engage and inspire the Indiana community through enriching arts experiences.
Allied Solutions Center is a nonprofit arts and education organization responsible for the operation and programming of a three-venue campus at Carmel’s City Center. Together, the Payne & Mencias Palladium, the Tarkington and the Studio Theater create a welcoming place for the community to engage with all forms of the performing arts. The campus also provides a home for the affiliated Great American Songbook Foundation and hosts six Resident Companies. Since opening in 2011, the Center’s venues have hosted over 4,000 performances for more than 1.75 million patrons representing all 92 counties in Indiana, all 50 states and 30-plus nations. The campus also draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for other public events.
Each year Allied Solutions Center provides access to the arts for thousands of people of all ages – building community, enriching lives and inspiring minds young and old. Education and outreach initiatives include performing arts classes for children and adults and special programs for upcoming generations, such as the interactive Peanut Butter & Jam concert series for preschoolers, the Palladium PALS reading club, summer camps, free Student Matinees and the Student Discount Ticket program, through which students can attend select performances for just $15.

Housed within and proudly affiliated with Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts, the Great American Songbook Foundation, founded by five-time GRAMMY nominee Michael Feinstein, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the music that has defined generations. From the soaring melodies of Broadway to the timeless rhythms of jazz and popular song, we safeguard this rich heritage through our Songbook Library & Archives, educational programs, and a vision to establish a world-class museum right here in Carmel.

The Songbook Library & Archives is at the heart of our preservation efforts and serves as the primary resource for the curation of our exhibits, bringing musical history to life. This ever-growing resource houses hundreds of thousands of musical arrangements, as well as rare documents, images, costumes, and an incredible array of artifacts.

This class will serve both as a look at the history and evolution of stand-up comedy and as a practical course that will cover joke mechanics and writing for stand-up as well as performance theory and practice. Over the course of the class, students will write and practice a five-minute routine to perform for friends and family at the graduation show. Prior to registering for this class, please make sure of your availability on Oct. 9, as all class participants are expected to perform in the graduation show.

Mariachi Sol Jalisciense is an exceptional ensemble devoted to preserving and celebrating the rich traditions of Mexican mariachi music. Based in Indianapolis, this dynamic group brings the true spirit of Latin heritage to every stage, captivating audiences with passionate vocals, masterful musicianship and infectious energy. Dressed in traditional charro attire, they create an immersive cultural experience from the moment they begin performing.
LUMINARIES: AMERICANA AND JAZZ COLLIDE

Join the leaders of the Indianapolis-based Visions Jazz Ensemble as they discuss the origins and techniques behind their new project, Of the People. Blending two unique American art forms in recognition of America’s 250th birthday, Sam Butler and Garrett Fasig will discuss their approach to turning classic songs like “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and “Ghost Riders in the Sky” into inventive new jazz arrangements. Commissioned by the Timeless Music Project, the genre-bending collection is set for release in 2026.

New Works: An Arts Commission Project is an initiative by Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts to promote and sustain Indiana’s working artists and arts communities in an inclusive way by supporting the creation of new works in performing and visual arts.
In celebrating artists’ voices here in Indiana, we promote more diverse, connected and thriving communities. The core theme of the new works must align with one or more of Allied Solutions Center’s Core Values: Integrity, Excellence, Innovation, Collaboration and Inclusion.

PEANUT BUTTER & JAM
Designed for children ages 1-7, Peanut Butter & Jam sessions encourage young children to become engaged in the arts. Join us each month for these fun and informal concerts, 10:30 -11:15 a.m. Saturdays. Tickets are only $10 per child, with two free adult admissions included per order – perfect for parents and grandparents!

In Memory Of
Rollin “Rollie” M. Dick 1931-2026
As we mark our 15th Anniversary Season at Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts, we also mourn the passing of local philanthropist and civic leader Rollin “Rollie” Dick, whose tireless work and wise counsel have been vital to our success from the very start.
Rollie became Allied Solutions Center’s first board chair in 2009, two years before its opening. In 2012, Rollie joined the board of our sister organization, the Great American Songbook Foundation. He volunteered his services in countless ways over the years and was a Legacy Member of both boards at the time of his death.
As financial supporters, Rollie and his wife, Cheri, are members of the Legacy Society and the Lifetime Giving Society for both Allied Solutions Center and the Songbook Foundation. They also supported the renovation of the Payne & Mencias Palladium’s Founders Room lounge into what is now the Brham Founders Club.
Anyone who has ever enjoyed a performance at Allied Solutions Center or a program offered by the Songbook Foundation can thank Rollie Dick, whose generosity and community spirit will remain an inspiration to all.
