SANTA IS COMING TO TOWN! CAUSEWAY IS COLLECTING NEW UNWRAPPED TOYS FOR BRANDON’S ELVES.

Manahawkin- The season of giving is once again upon us. This hectic time of year is when everyone is running around looking for the perfect gift and traveling to spend time with their loved ones. But for some, this time of year brings stress and sadness. Not everyone is fortunate enough to give their children the Christmas they deserve. That is where the Christmas miracle, Brandon’s Elves, comes into play. Brandon’s Elves collects toys for children right here in Ocean County. Brandon’s Elves work as a volunteer to the Ocean County Board Of Social Services for their Holiday Program. Their main purpose is to provide assistance to families in Ocean County, NJ, by providing their children with a Christmas. They hand pick toys for each child based on their likes and the toys donated by the community which has helped them in many ways. Each child is getting a customized holiday experience with the help from volunteer staff who sort through all the toys. They help all children in need, from infants to 18 years of age. This compassionate organization has been established to remember Brandon Holt who was only six years old when he lost his life to a tragic and preventable gun accident in 2013. Brandon loved Christmas, like most little kids, and naively thought that Santa visited and left presents for every little boy and girl. We are grateful that Brandon’s mom, Christine Holt, was able to turn this tragedy into triumph. Last year Brandon’s Elves helped

approximately 500 children receive the Christmas they deserve. This year they will be helping about 900 children right here in Ocean County. The Causeway Family of Dealerships is happy to help Brandon’s Elves for the second year by placing collection boxes at every showroom and providing a space for the volunteers to organize all donations. This past year Brandon’s Elves started a new program called the All Stars Program where they pay registration fees for families in need in order for the children to play sports like football and cheerleading. This year they were able to pay for 30 children to participate in sports and extracurricular activities. Please visit brandonselves.org if interested in learning more about the program or to donate. We are truly amazed by Christine’s efforts to help children in Ocean County have joy in their life, and for that we thank her. How can you help? Donate a new, unwrapped toy and drop it off at any

WOBM Christmas Classic Causeway Family of Dealerships 35th year as a participating sponsor!

By Kevin Williams

My holiday season is likely a bit different than yours because many years ago I had this idea to host a high school basketball tournament. It wasn’t really a big deal, just eight boys teams playing games over three days after Christmas at Ocean County College. That’s how the WOBM Christmas Classic began in 1984 and flash forward to 2018 and that “little” tournament has grown into what is likely the largest holiday basketball event in New Jersey.

Since high school basketball practice officially began Monday this seems like a good time to announce that the 35th annual WOBM Christmas Classic tips off on the weekend of December 22-23 at the RWJBarnabas Health Arena on the campus of Toms River High School North. Presented by InVision Eye Care, the tournament features the same field of 32 teams from a year ago who will play 52 games over 7 days leading up to the championship games on December 30th.

Back to defend their titles are the Manasquan boys and Manchester girls and they each return the tournament MVP’s from last December in Warriors senior Brad McCabe and Hawks sophomore Destiny Adams. On Sunday, December 9th the 32 head coaches will gather at The Villa, across from The Office Restaurant and Lounge in Toms River to seed the teams and that will determine the first round pairings. The 16 girls teams will play their first round games on Saturday, December 22nd with the boys opening round the following day. We have made some format changes for this year. All first-round games will be played in the RWJBarnabas Health Arena and the boys and girls quarterfinals will all be played on Thursday, December 27th with all games again played in the main arena. The High School North gym will only be used for some consolation games. We are also delighted to announce our partnership with InVision Eye Care which has been around about as many years as the tournament itself. Founded by Dr. Edward Hedaya the practice has grown at their facility in Lakewood but their core mission has not changed in providing outstanding eye care for life. We’re delighted to have them a part of this year’s event. Look for more information in the days ahead at wobm.com and shoresportsnetwork.com.
