A few of the action plans include taking part serving meals at Ken’s Kitchen and visiting senior centers.

Editor Joe Stroffolino Interfaith. The definition: relating to or between different religions or members of different religions. Yes in this world of religious, cultural and social strife there is Interfaith Health & Support Services of Southern Ocean County. Interfaith is a coalition of different faith communities, social service, and health care organizations. They provide volunteer physical, emotional and spiritual support to those living at home who are vulnerable because of age or disability. More than likely an organization most never knew existed. To further explain I think their mission statement helps: We seek to put God’s love into action by promoting wellness, independence, and alleviation of loneliness and suffering to our vulnerable in need. My hope in writing this is to spread the good news about this Southern Ocean County Gem. What exactly does Interfaith do? Here is a list of some programs Interfaith provides. Parish Nursing Historically, Parish Nursing is a congregational health ministry shaped by Christ’s concern for all aspects of the human condition and directed to the service of the whole person. The Parish Nurse serves as a health educator, resource liaison to community faith Hea ter port Serv lth In Supcean Counices & fO o

services and health organizations, and a personal health counselor who attends to the body, mind and soul. Parish Nurses provide non-invasive care in their volunteer nursing role as an expression of caring to the community. They may: • Serve as a personal health counselor • Support the family during crisis • Set up an information corner in the church or synagogue • Promote wholeness within the congregation/ community through workshops Intergenerational Program Our program works with 8th grade students at Southern Regional Middle School, who are members of the Student Team Building Youth Leadership Experience Club (S.T.Y.L.E.). The Alzheimer’s caregiver is often called the hidden, or second, victim of this disease. The Alzheimer’s Respite Program offers caregivers of individuals with AD or related dementia time away from the responsibilities of caregiving and relief from the physical and emotional stress of being a caregiver. In addition, individuals with AD look forward to the visits with a new friend. The focus of this program is to develop and train volunteers to provide this much needed support. Volunteers will be paired with families with a loved one affected by mild to moderate AD. A volunteer will spend time with the individual with dementia, while the family caregiver gets out. This may be in the form of companionship, transportation, or just a few hours away. Since volunteers are not medically trained, they are not able to perform “hands-on” or medical services. Respite visits are a free service and typically take place on a weekly basis, usually lasting anywhere from 2-4 hours per visit, depending upon the needs of the family please see page 6 Corporate Sponsors: The Van Dyk Group Southern Ocean Rotary BSR Physical Therapy Medical Staff of Southern Ocean Medical Center Causeway Family of Dealerships Our Supporters and Partners: Ocean Acres Civic Association The Ocean County Office of Senior Services The Ocean County Office of Senior Services Title III Program The Ocean County Department of Transportation The OceanFirst Foundation Stafford Township Community Development Block Grant United Way of Ocean County The Banner The Sandpaper Soroptomist International of LBI Greenbriar Oceanaire Women’s Club TRUIST Bank of America Medical Staff of Southern Ocean Medical Center
