LENTEN invitation Debbie Luna, who calls herself “Miss Lent” because of her purple attire from head to toe, hands a plate with meatless enchiladas to Adam Mendez during a Lenten meal featuring enchiladas at Our Lady of Guadalupe in St. Paul Feb. 16. The annual event takes place every Friday during Lent except Good Friday. Luna, a longtime parishioner, said she has been involved in the enchilada Lenten meals since the parish started doing them about 20 years ago. Around 200 parishioners like Luna and Mendez volunteer every year, Luna said. “It’s pretty fun,” she said, noting that the Arellano family did the Lenten meals for 10 years before it became a parish event. “Everybody that does it is here because they’re having fun.” DAVE HRBACEK | THE CATHOLIC SPIRIT
