Thank You The Catholic High School of Baltimore is grateful for the continued support of our donors. This report includes gifts made during the 2020 fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2021, and includes unrestricted and restricted gifts. President 's Message Dear Friends of Catholic High, Our 2020-2021 Green & Gold Fund Campaign, Empowering Women ~ Transforming the World, ended successfully on June 30, 2021. Although this was a year of unknowns and challenges, our Catholic High community persevered by learning new skills and routines and by constructing different approaches for staying connected. Our relationships remained strong as we creatively linked with our donors, alumnae, staff, parents, students, and members of the Board of Trustees, amazing me at the sincere commitment and love that our community and friends have for Catholic High. I am proud of our alumnae and the significant differences they are making in our society. I watch them grow using their education, resilience, insight and vision to empower them through adversity — women readied to transform the world for the better! Our Visual & Performing Arts, Law and Leadership in the Franciscan Tradition, Biomedical, Archangel, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Programs continue to attract innovative and visionary minds. These programs prepare our students to gain acceptance into top universities with significant scholarships and awards. This year, 67 seniors from the Class of 2021 were awarded over $12,000,000 in scholarships, grants, and awards, and accepted into colleges and universities such as Rochester Institute of Technology, Temple University, Virginia Tech, Howard University, Seton Hall University and many more. In addition to being proud of our graduates' academic achievements, I am pleased to present this Annual Report acknowledging our many benefactors. Once again, our Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff achieved 100% participation in giving to our annual Green & Gold Fund. In addition, our Reunion Class Giving Program, Alumnae Awards recipients, and special events are highlighted in this report. Your continued support and confidence in the only high school sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Philadelphia since 1939 means a great deal to me and to everyone in the Catholic High community. New at Catholic High JESSE JAMES HINSON BIOMEDICAL CLINICAL SIMULATION LAB Our students shine more than ever before in the sciences with our new Jesse James Hinson Biomedical Clinical Simulation Lab. Catholic High students practice simulated clinical experiences with our mid-fidelity mannequins to introduce them to the real world of medicine.
DANCE STUDIO In the Summer of 2020, Catholic High renovated the old home economics room into a brand new Dance Studio to complement the new Dance concentration in the Visual and Performing Arts Program. The Dance Studio is equipped with ballet barres, personal cubbies, and a sound system to play a variety of music for our students.

Alumnae Awards BARBARA LECHERT McCULLY '66 Mother Mary Generosa McCafferty Distinguished Alumna Award Mrs. Barbara McCully is the class ambassador for the Class of 1966. She consistently donates items for school raffles and auctions, attends many school events and fundraisers with her sisters, and has been a member of the Alumnae Executive Board for 7 years.
MOLLY WRIGHT BAXTER '07 Franciscan Heritage Award Mrs. Molly Baxter graduated in 2007 from Catholic High. Mrs. Baxter earned her Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and Philosophy from Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) in December of 2010 and received multiple awards from the University in the area of Religious Studies & Theology. Mrs. Baxter returned to her Alma Mater in 2016 to work as Campus Minister and Theology teacher.
LINDA LARKIN BROCK '65 Lux Tua Luceat Service Award Mrs. Linda Brock, Class of 1965, assisted with the 80 Years Strong: Lighting Our Way Into the Future Anniversary Assembly and Diamonds and Pearls Gala and volunteered at Catholic High's annual Wine Tasting event. In 2018, Mrs. Brock started volunteering at Catholic High in the Department of Institutional Advancement working on mailings, special events, and fundraisers.

CAROL ROSENDALE SPEARGAS '63 Lux Tua Luceat Service Award Mrs. Carol Speargas volunteers at University of MD St. Joseph Medical Center one day a week, assists with Red Cross blood drives at the hospital, and in 2018, she started volunteering at Catholic High in the Department of Institutional Advancement working on mailings, special events, and fundraisers.
VICTORIA SINGLE GWINN '08 Distinguished Recent Alumna Award While a student at Catholic High, Mrs. Victoria Gwinn '08 was a member of the Honors Program, the lacrosse and field hockey teams, the National Honor Society, Athletic Association, Student Council, and was Salutatorian her senior year. Mrs. Gwinn is a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore City. As the Charge Nurse on her shifts, she leads her team of fellow nurses in caring for patients with complex medical illnesses, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, and multi-organ failure.
MEGAN MORALES '15 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Ms. Megan Morales '15, Catholic High’s very own Marketing and Communications Specialist, made history and broke records during her time as a scholar athlete and member of the field hockey, lacrosse, and indoor track and field teams. After graduating from Catholic High, Ms. Morales attended Notre Dame of Maryland University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Communications and played both Division III field hockey and lacrosse. Ms. Morales is also the Head field hockey and lacrosse Coach for the Cubs.
NOMINATE AN ALUMNA! Every year, Catholic High recognizes select alumnae for their recent professional accomplishments, dedication to Catholic High, and service to their community. Each alumna lets her let shine brightly in her workplace, community, and/or parish. These women who are chosen each year exemplify what it means to be true Daughters of Catholic High. Recipients are recognized before the Catholic High community at our annual Homecoming Weekend in October. The nomination forms can be found on Catholic High’s website at www.thecatholichighschool.org/Alumnae. Students of the Year FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR Anastasia Gumbel '24 Anastasia Gumbel '24 earned the privilege of being named Freshman of the Year at Catholic High. As a Freshman, she was a member of the Student Ambassador Program, Mathletes, Green School Club, and Student Council. After graduating from Catholic High, Anastasia aspires to attend college to study medicine in the field of dermatology. As Anastasia moves into the future, she plans to continue striving for greatness and wants to continue helping her peers strive for greatness as well!
SOPHOMORE OF THE YEAR Sydney Leard '23 As a Sophomore at Catholic High, Sydney Leard '23 excelled at being a well-rounded, dedicated, and talented member of the school community. She stood out among her classmates and made a remarkable impression on the Students of the Year Committee. Sydney is enjoying her Junior year at Catholic High and was thrilled to receive her class ring which officially made her an upperclassman.
JUNIOR OF THE YEAR Audrey Russell '22 Junior of the Year, Audrey Russell '22, let her light shine brightly during the 2020-2021 school year within the classroom and the arts! Audrey's continuous love for the arts is present each day at Catholic High. She is a member of the Choir, A Cappella Choir, and Barbershop Club. After graduating from Catholic High, Audrey plans to attend a college out of state and pursue a major in the arts. Audrey is excited to see what Catholic High has in store for her as she navigates her final year. She looks forward to becoming an alumna of The Catholic High School of Baltimore in May!
MISS CATHOLIC HIGH Megan Tripplet '21 Megan Tripplet '21 let her light shine brightly at Catholic High as a multi-talented and accomplished student. Megan was a member of four honor societies, STEM Steering Committee, Green School Club, Mathletes, Ambassadors, was a Senior Editor of Canticles, and preformed in the Spring Musical. Megan now attends Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where she is a double- major in computer science and mathematics. After she receives her Bachelor's degree, she intends to pursue a graduate degree in mathematics.

A Tribute to IND
a new school environment. As
May of 2020 came as a shock for all of Baltimore when the 173-year-
to experience the same amazing
old high school announced that the Institute of Notre Dame was officially closing its doors on June 30, 2020. Many students were left scrambling to find new schools for the following school year. In the Fall of 2020, Catholic High welcomed 25 students from IND with open arms — 15 of the students of whom were rising Seniors. On our annual Hello Day, current Catholic High students welcomed the IND transfer students with baskets filled with goodies, just as if they were walking into our community as Freshmen. Seniors were given blue Senior Bows to represent their past and connect with their new home away from home. At Catholic High's Junior Ring Liturgy, three Juniors from IND received the traditional IND class ring. Their faces filled with joy as they were able to have receive one last memento of their beloved school. In a sit-down interview conducted for Catholic High's 5-year Strategic Plan, Senior IND transfer student, Carlene Phillander '21, shared how Catholic High's welcoming community helped her transition to

she reflected on Catholic High's Franciscan values, she shared, "I want students who come after me culture and friendships!" The end of the school year was an emotional time for the IND Seniors, as they realized they would not be graduating from the school they chose their 8th grade year. Students learning in-person were able to wear their IND uniform on the final day of school for the very last time. On May 25, 2020, fifteen students from the Institute of Notre Dame graduated from the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen as alumnae of The Catholic High School of Baltimore. During the Commencement Ceremony, Catholic High President, Dr. Nazelrod '68, asked all students, parents, family members, and friends with a connection to IND to stand to join in singing the IND Alma Mater. This came as a surprise for many. The kind gesture and tribute to the long-lasting history of the school brought tears to the congregation's eyes. Catholic High looks forward to watching the remaining IND transfer students continue their high school journey as Cubs. But together, we are always "One Mind. One Heart."

What do you tell people who ask, “Why should I send my daughter to Catholic High?” All of the Catholic high schools overlap; we are all similar in many ways, our Catholic identity for sure. Catholic High has a different lens, a Franciscan lens. We get our identity and our mission and values from the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. We are their only sponsored high school. For example, as a Franciscan school we are purposefully hospitable. We expect our students to greet people in the building, to welcome them. We are first and foremost a welcoming community. I think many people come in here and they feel it. But the education is excellent at Catholic High. Academics must be really strong to keep students. We also stress leadership and, at Catholic High, our young women can be engaged however they want. They often are front and center at Masses, at assemblies, common homerooms. Often the adults—the faculty and staff— take a back seat while the students lead. We make that a priority here and 32 • ANNUAL REPORT
