Care Sector Fury at Matt Hancock’s Covid in Care Homes “Blame Game”
Furious care providers say the Government has some serious questions to answer after former health secretary Matt Hancock’s comments on Covid in care homes. Mr Hancock, who today (December 7) announced that he will not stand in the next election as a member of parliament, said in his diary that the vast majority of infections brought into homes came from the wider community “mainly by staff” and not from people being discharged from hospital without being tested,
adding that only a small proportion of cases were caused by his decision to discharge patients from hospital without testing. In his diary entry for 2 April 2020, just days after the imposition of the first national lockdown, Mr Hancock acknowledged that patients leaving hospital would not be tested but said care homes were given “clear guidance on isolation measures”.
