New Alzheimer’s Drug Success Brings Renewed Hope

A new drug which slows the rate of decline in memory and thinking in people with early Alzheimer’s disease is being hailed as the biggest breakthrough in 30 years of Alzheimer’s research. The drug, called lecanemab, reduced the rate of cognitive decline by 27% in a study of nearly 1,800 people in the early stages of Alzheimer's, scientists reported today (Wednesday 30 November), at the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer’s

Disease Conference in San Francisco. The pharmaceutical company, Eisai, reports full data from its successful phase 3 clinical trial of the Alzheimer’s drug, lecanemab. With results published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
