Public Supports Social Care Reform… But Who Picks Up The Bill?

New polling from the Health Foundation and Ipsos has revealed strong public support for reforming social care, but no clear consensus on how any additional funding should be raised. The survey found widespread pessimism about the state of the system, with four in ten people (40%) saying standards of social care had worsened over the past year, compared with just 4% who felt they had improved.

Confidence in political leadership on the issue was similarly low, with only 9% of respondents believing the government had the right policies in place for social care at the time the survey was conducted, and underlines the scale of the challenge facing policymakers as pressure mounts for a long-term, sustainably funded solution to the sector's problems.
