"Treat Social Care As Essential National Infrastructure Or Face Collapse"... Sector Leaders Say
Social care leaders have issued a stark warning that adult social care must become a central national priority, as mounting pressures on providers, workforce shortages and fragile funding threaten the future stability of care services across the UK. Speaking ahead of the recently held local elections, sector organisations warned that social care can no longer remain a secondary political issue discussed only during NHS crises or council funding emergencies. Instead, they
argue, it must be recognised as essential national infrastructure underpinning the health service, the economy and family life itself. The powerful intervention came as the Independent Care Group (ICG) urged voters to scrutinise political candidates on their understanding of social care, while Care England launched a major parliamentary report calling for a “fundamental shift” in how adult social care is funded, valued and integrated into national policy.
