CQC Issues First Inadequate Rating For Council Adult Services The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has issued its first inadequate judgment since it started assessing English councils on their adult social care performance in December 2023, with Blackpool Council receiving an 'Inadequate' Rating in CQC Adult Social Care Assessment. The North West authority scored just 34 points out of 100 against the CQC's nine quality statements, significantly below the current average of 65.6 points achieved by other assessed councils. This landmark decision affects one of England's most challenging social care
environments, where residential and nursing care providers face unprecedented pressures and highlights systemic challenges in England's most deprived local authority. In the report, published earlier this month (6 August), the CQC cited “risks to human rights” which left people’s needs not being met, and negatively impacted on people accessing and being supported by the local authority.
