Chancellor Announces “Record Investment” for the NHS But Precious Little For Social Care
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves has announced an extra £29 billion in funding for the NHS in today’s (June 11) Spending Review, whilst failing to address or give mention to adult social care. The Chancellor began her speech in front of the House of Commons by stating: “My driving purpose since I became Chancellor is to make working people in all parts of our country better off. “So at the Budget last October and again in the Spring, I made the choices
necessary to fix the foundations of our economy.” Turning to the NHS, she announced a record cash investment with an extra £29bn to be spent per year for the period of the Spending Review which the Chancellor says, will enable the NHS to deliver on the government’s Plan for Change to cut waiting lists, improve patient care and modernise services.
