Avoid Return To Social Care ‘Doom Loop’… Says Latest Social Care 360 Report
The social care system is at risk of being stuck in a “doom loop” as local authorities struggle to balance care support with a perfect storm of staffing costs, minimum wage increases, and rise in national insurance according to a new report. The report commissioned by The King’s Fund has revealed that the increasing cost of paying staff has ultimately led to a fall in the number of people receiving publicly funded long-term care.
Social Care 360 analyses nearly a decade’s worth of data and reveals a ‘doom loop’ of rising wages, increasing fees, stretched budgets, and less care available to those who need it, and suggests a “real risk that even more people who need care will have to go without” as providers hike fees to cover increased costs, and local authorities cut the number of people they support amid financial strain.
