What’s Inside

Austen’s 1813 novel and centers around the life of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Bennet, one of five sisters in a respectable but financially modest family. Set in rural England during the early 19th century, the story explores love, class, marriage and personal growth. Lizzy is played by the wonderful Cora Barr, who brings the role to life. The story begins with the arrival of a wealthy and eligible bachelor, Mr. Charles Bingley, played by Gwen Hawdon. He rents a large house nearby and becomes quickly infatuated with Lizzy’s older sister Jane Bennet, played by Emma Philpot. Their banter on stage is amazing to watch. initially draws the most attention. Darcy is played by Brayden Crickenberger, who portrays the rich and aloof gentleman in such a humorous and compelling way. The dialogue, already sharp and clever in the novel, becomes even better when delivered by these great actors, creating an engaging experience for the audience. Moments of tension, humor and vulnerability are heightened on stage, particularly in scenes like Darcy’s proposal, Elizabeth’s rejection and their eventual reconciliation. The actors’ chemistry is fantastic and their physical presence adds new layers to Austen’s famous characters. (Story continued in A & E p. 8)
