2026 PRESIDENT BOARD OF DIRECTORS

I hope you and your families are having an enjoyable start to the summer. While this quarter was not without its challenges, we have much to celebrate and be thankful for at the Club, as well as some very exciting developments during the remainder of the year. As you are no doubt aware, the Club recently navigated two difficult situations – a serious incident at the Family Resort Pool, followed, just a few weeks later, by an intentional fire set in the middle of the night in our parking garage. These served as unwelcome reminders of the types of events for which our team rigorously plans and prepares, and in both cases worst outcomes were avoided – but that doesn’t make them any less scary or disruptive. I’d like to take a moment to recognize Daniel Moreno, Skyler Gentry, our Club Department Heads, and all other present staff for their quick, thoughtful and professional responses that contributed greatly to positive outcomes and getting the Club back to normal operations. As you would expect, these incidents are reviewed in considerable detail as part of a ‘360’ assessment of responses. Specifically, it is also worth taking a moment to thank and recognize Jon Diller, and his Aquatics Team, for an outstanding and heroic response to the incident at the pool. Their quick action was a key part of the broader effort of first responders who helped narrowly avoid a tragic situation – for his role, Jon received well-earned recognition from Houston Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz at a ceremony in June. Unfortunately, despite the wake-up call that this situation should have provided to Membership, rule violations and safety concerns at the pool have continued to occur. To underscore the communication Daniel Moreno sent out recently, these infractions are treated with the gravity they deserve and will be reviewed by the House Legal Committee and the Board. On a much brighter note, the Club remains as active as ever, putting us comfortably ahead of our annual budget targets, and more importantly, Daniel and team continue to deliver at the highest level on our Club’s mission to foster community, fun and wellness. It is with tremendous pride that, in recognition of that excellence, our annual Employee Scholarship has been awarded to three individuals for the upcoming school semester. Additionally, please be on the lookout for details on the forthcoming back-to-school drive to further support children of our wonderful Briar Club team members. We should also take a moment to celebrate some tremendous accomplishments in our Junior Programs this spring and summer. Our Barracudas Swim Team went undefeated in their meets this season, including against our fiercest club rivals, and our Junior Tennis Program continues to excel at the regional level and beyond. Congratulations to all our hard-working junior athletes and their coaches (and parents!) on another successful season. Lastly, a quick update on our various Club projects. As you saw recently, the Fitness Locker Room refreshes are scheduled to begin later this year. This much needed maintenance provides an opportunity to simultaneously upgrade these aging facilities – the Club survey results from this spring indicated a desire to maintain our core existing amenities (including a steam room and whirlpool), as well as a strong desire to find ways to incorporate new amenities that have become more standard at clubs, including dry sauna with red light therapy and cold plunge, which we are pleased to report are included in our plan and within our contemplated budget, timeline, and footprint. A Club Decor Committee - comprised of experienced Members - will help ensure the project is executed with a cohesive aesthetic and within our budget targets. More to come on survey results and the specific plans for the Fitness Locker Rooms. We also continue to make great progress with the reimagined Campus Plan, including thorough engagement from the Club’s Strategic Planning Committee. We are committed to focusing on the changes that are most impactful for our current Club Membership, now and for the foreseeable future – the proposed plans will be tailored to those that have broadest support among Members, can be executed on a reasonable timeline and budget, and leave the door open for future optionality as the Club continues to evolve. We look forward to sharing more in the coming months. As always, thank you for your commitment to building our Club’s culture around family, fun and safety – wishing you all a wonderful rest of the summer. Cheers!

Olivet Lane is home to the region’s oldest still producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. The secret to its longevity is being blessed by the perfect combination of terroir and climate. The Olivet Lane Vineyard features an undulating benchland of well-drained, gravelly, clay loam soil. The fog protects the wine under a cool white blanket from evening through the morning. These long, cool nights extend the growing season, creating the opportunity for the grapes to ripen slowly and reach their full flavor potential while retaining their natural acidity, producing wines that are elegant and age-worthy. Widely recognized as a prime example of the classic style of Russian River Valley wines, it has been the grape source for many of the Valley’s Pinot Noir luminaries — Williams Selyem, Merry Edwards, Gary Farrell, and Darioush.

Spring Style on the Court

Earlier this season, we took over Courts 4-7 to host a brand-new event to the Club! Spring Style on the Court was a fabulous evening showcasing a perfect blend of tennis and fashion. Members sipped and snacked while watching an exciting tennis exhibition featuring Club pros Diego Ujcic, Adi Iyer, Kristian Rodriguez, and Jeremiah Sanchez. They were then treated to a runway fashion show showcasing the season's latest court-to-Club looks modeled by our very own Briar Club staff! Following the show, Members were welcomed to a market featuring shoppable fashion from the style show, a custom hat bar, and a permanent jewelry activation, as well as food stations and a massive 360° bar (complete with French 75 fountain)! This event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of our Maintenance, Banquets, Food & Beverage, Catering & Special Events, Communications, Youth, Fitness, and Racquet Sports Teams. We also want to extend a huge thank you to our event chairs Emily & Mark Porter and Brittany & Steven Douglas. We look forward to hosting this event again next spring, and hope to see you on the courts!

PlaySight

PlaySight is a fixed-camera system available exclusively on Court 4. Once activated, the cameras record audio and video from 6 unique positions. Using the PlaySight app, players will set a time interval to begin recording. Once finished, the video will upload to the app where you can then change camera angles, zoom in or out, speed up or slow down playback, annotate, add voiceovers, and highlight segments of the video. The app is free to use, but does offer increased AI analysis - including automatic best-play highlighting - for a fee. Scan the QR code from inside the PlaySight app to begin your session.
