Message from the President Dear Fellow Shorthorn Breeders, It has been a record-breaking year for WSA and WJSA! At the 2017 Wisconsin State Fair, Shorthorn entries were at an all-time high in the Open Show. This momentum and excitement continued to the 2018 Wisconsin State Shorthorn Show, where nearly 100 head of Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus cattle were exhibited. The WSA State Show is held each Father’s Day weekend at the Lodi Ag Fairgrounds. Join us! Wisconsin hosted the 50th National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference this June at the Alliant Energy Center. Fifty WSA exhibitors brought 81 head to Madison which, again, was a record for Wisconsin exhibitors at a National Junior Shorthorn Show. A small army of Shorthorn breeders worked for a year to plan, execute, and provide manpower for this year’s national junior show. I would like to sincerely thank the planning committee and all those involved for their hard work in making this year’s junior national an event to remember! I encourage you to attend the Wisconsin Shorthorn Association’s annual meeting on February 9, 2019 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The meeting is held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association Winter Conference, which is February 8 and 9. This is a great opportunity to learn what is happening at the local, state, and national levels for Wisconsin cattle producers. It also gives you an opportunity to meet up with your fellow cattlemen and cattlewomen to discuss topics that are important to you. It continues to be an exciting time to raise Shorthorn and ShorthornPlus cattle. As you flip through these pages, you will find Shorthorn breeders who are ready, willing, and able to meet your cattle needs with some of the best genetics our breed has to offer - not only to purebred breeders, but to commercial cattlemen as well. Please use the commercial advertisers as a resource, as they too would like to partner with you in your cattle ventures. I invite you to be a member of the Wisconsin Shorthorn Association. If at any time you have questions about our great association, do not hesitate to give me or any of the board members listed a call. Dear Fellow Shorthorn Enthusiasts, Hello! My name is Hannah Olsen, and I am your current Wisconsin Junior Shorthorn Association President. This is my third year serving on the Junior Board, with my previous positions being the Wisconsin State Show Chairperson and a Junior National Show Youth Committee Member. I am also currently serving as the National Alternate Shorthorn Lassie Queen. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences with both current and new members in this upcoming year! My love for Shorthorns began when I was 8 years old and my parents purchased our first two Shorthorn heifers, Surprise and Jewel. During my first year showing, I was fortunate to receive Reserve Champion Supreme Breeding Female at my county fair with my heifer, Jewel. It was at that moment when I realized raising Shorthorn cattle was going to be a lifelong adventure for me. My parents, sister and I own a small herd of fourteen mature cows, two mature bulls and two heifers. Presently, I own three Shorthorn cows, one of which I raised from a calf, as well as a bull and a heifer. They are the the foundation of my herd. I am also a junior at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls majoring in Agriculture Education with a minor in Animal Science. The WJSA Board is here to serve our fellow junior members throughout the state. The Junior Board meets by conference calls several times a year. We recently completed Junior Nationals in Madison, where we had a record number of 50 Wisconsin exhibitors! We will be hosting a pizza party at the Wisconsin State Fair to welcome new members and all Shorthorn enthusiasts. We also encourage all juniors to attend the both the Wisconsin Junior Shorthorn Association and Wisconsin Shorthorn Association annual meetings at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, in February 2019. If you have any questions about becoming a WJSA member, a Shorthorn Lassie, or any other questions about our great breed, do not hesitate to ask! I look forward to talking to you! Our annual meeting is in February at the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Winter Conference.
Lassie Queens and Princesses travel the state to represent Wisconsin Shorthorns.
We have a pizza party each year at Wisconsin State Fair for all Shorthorn junior exhibitors.
The WSA State Show includes an educational event each year.

We recognize a Friend of the WJSA and reward that individual with a personalized gift.
