Design Aesthetic Celebrating its centennial, the Biltmore stands as a testament to grand vision of George E. Merrick, the founder of Coral Gables, and hotel magnate John McEntee Bowman, the landmark was brought to life by renowned architects Leonard Schultze and S. Fullerton Weaver. They crafted a dreamlike setting of hand-painted frescos on barrel-vaulted ceilings, brilliant travertine floors, fine marble columns, intricate leaded-glass fixtures, carved mahogany furnishings, and lavish gardens. Rising above it all is the hotel’s iconic tower, deliberately modeled after the historic Moorish Giralda Tower of Seville, Spain—reflecting the finest in classic Mediterranean architecture and a deep affection for South Florida’s lush landscape, shaped by Italian, Moorish, and Spanish influences. The Biltmore is the centerpiece of George Merrick’s vision of Coral Gables as an elegant, stately suburb, which he called The City Beautiful.
Location The Biltmore is a National Historic Landmark set within 150 acres of lush tropical landscape in the exclusive Coral Gables neighborhood of Miami. Ideally positioned near Miami International Airport, Miami Beach, Downtown Miami, and many of the city’s top attractions, it remains one of South Florida’s premier destinations for both leisure and business travelers.
