The Yelm Highway Community Park master plan includes documentation of a robust public outreach process gained through onsite activities with the community, public meetings, and online outreach via a collaboration with the city using the Engage Olympia program. Outreach provided ample, multimodal opportunities for the community, neighbors, and stakeholder groups to share their ideas and feedback.
Considerations for the site include opportunities for art integration; opportunities and constraints for parking and vehicular access; full-size soccer fields; potential site features vetted and honed through the community outreach process; a cultural resources report; critical areas report on wetlands/streams, Garry oaks, and Mazama pocket gophers; stormwater strategies; SEPA checklist, and permitting matrix.
The master plan, packaged into phases with associated costs and implementation strategy, received City Council review and approval.
