Dr. Isobella Parkinson Commodore, The Barbados Yacht Club In this edition we publish a list of some of the events planned for our Centennial celebrations next year. The main events will be the launch lecture on 6th January 2024, to which we will invite the Prime Minister and the President of Barbados who is an Honorary Member. The other main events are the Winter Ball on the 27th January 2024 and the Centennial Ball on the 7the December 2024. These events are in addition to our usual offerings and a full list will be available later this year. Events planned between now and the end of the year are: 4th November Art & Craft Fair 30th November Commodore’s Rum Punch Party 2nd December High Tea 6th December 1st Christmas Lunch 14th December 2nd Christmas Lunch
Further details on these and other planned events will be available shortly. Many new members were elected at the end of September and they are featured on pages 6 to 7. Please make them welcome to our Club. We have also had a good number of applicants in October, who will be voted for in the ballot on the 27th October. We have been extremely busy the last two weekends. We are now providing a BBQ on Sunday lunch as well as our usual menu to be ordered at the food counter in an effort to improve service. Sunday breakfast will also be a buffet. Our “Grab n’ Go service should be up and running by the time you read this. I appreciate that when we are very busy, we have problems with parking. There is no easy solution to this in the short-term but we are exploring options to allow parking in an area outside the Club. We had some severe weather earlier this month and as I write this, we are expecting Tropical Storm Tammy to pass close to the north of us in the next day or so. I urge everyone to take the necessary precautions and stay safe.
