MESSAGE FROM THE

Fellow members,
I launch this month’s Bellbuoy on a matter that is of great concern to us, and you, with regards to health and safety.
We are aware of a serious matter that can give rise to health concerns. That matter relates to the abundance of mainly rodents on the compound. I will advise that your Committee takes this matter very seriously. We have tried, along with the pest control companies, to modify our baiting materials, methods and locations. Unfortunately, all of these methods seem to have been unsuccessful, particularly as it relates to one rodent who seems to be the boldest of them all.
We have tried our best to ensure that our premises are clean and in a condition that would not allow these pests to find a suitable home. We are also aware that, due to our proximity to other businesses that provide the right environment for these pesky creatures, they may be finding food in other locations that allow them to survive. It appears that, since they have an abundance of foods otherwise, they are not interested in the servings that we offer; why would they eat a waxy bait when food waste is readily available otherwise? I am forced to therefore admit that so far, all of our efforts and associated costs with regards to the traditional baiting methods have gone to nought.
I want to assure you that we have not dropped our sails and taken a defeated approach to this situation. We are exploring other options, particularly with regards to the boldest of them all, who I understand
is now referred to as “Yachtie”. If we are successful in our investigations of other methods to exterminate, her days are numbered.
As I started by saying, we take this very seriously. It is indeed, no laughing matter. We have the health of you, our members, your families and guests as the ultimate priority.
I now turn my attention to a practice that I spoke about in many editions of the Bellbuoy, the use of the Club by members’ children who are now over the eligible age as set out in our Rules.
We are still genuinely concerned that this practice continues even as we seek to regularize these persons. We are asking for such persons to apply and become members in their own right if they want to use the Club on a regular basis. Please note that, other than becoming members, they are subject to the visiting restrictions of a maximum of twice monthly visits as set out in the Rules. Please be guided accordingly.
Continued on next page..
It is with immense joy that I also advise that work was done to the wall owned by the Radisson Aquatica Resort over the last few weeks and that the wall is now in a better and safer state.
We have therefore removed the signage and restrictions to access that were previously installed. We would like to thank our neighbour, the Radisson Aquatica Resort for their action on this matter.
Finally, I would like to report that we are in the final stages of launching our new Point of Sale system for the Restaurant and Bar. We look forward to its efficiency and hope that it removes some of the present pain points associated with ordering your food and beverages.
With those few words I now bid you adieu for another month.
Your Commodore,
Peter

The HR & Member Services Sub-Committee continues to focus on strengthening the member experience, staff culture, and the long-term sustainability of the Club.
As membership continues to grow, particularly among younger families, the Committee has been reviewing membership integration, visitor management, security, and member engagement initiatives. Quarterly New Member Receptions will begin in June, with proposers and seconders encouraged to participate and help introduce new members to the Club community.
Members are reminded of the rules relating to Family Memberships. While members may introduce their children and grandchildren to the Club, this privilege does not extend to those over the age of 18 unless they are in full-time education and prior written notification has been provided to the General Manager, with Committee approval obtained. Members are encouraged to support the Club by ensuring that adult children and grandchildren who use the facilities regularly become members in their own right. It is encouraging to see increasing interest in membership from younger families and the next generation of Club users.
Where adult children of members reside overseas and visit Barbados periodically, a Visitor's Pass may be arranged to facilitate their use of the Club during their stay. Members seeking further information are invited to contact Heather at memberservices@barbadosyachtclub.com.
The Committee has also reviewed concerns regarding non-members accessing Club property and the growing need for stronger security and visitor controls Members are reminded that guests must be accompanied by the introducing member at all times while on Club property, entered in the Guest Register upon arrival, and may not be introduced more than twice per month for general use of Club facilities. Security personnel have been asked to remain vigilant in ensuring that Club facilities are used appropriately and in accordance with Club rules.
On the staff side, work continues on updates to the Staff Handbook, Health & Safety Policy, recruitment processes, and training programmes. The Committee is also progressing an Anti-Bullying & Harassment Policy and exploring options for dedicated HR support to strengthen staff development, accountability, and workplace culture. Staff recognition remains a priority, and the Committee continues to review and refine its recognition initiatives as part of broader efforts to support morale and retention.
We thank members for their continued support and welcome feedback through the Committee's dedicated email at hellobyc@barbadosyachtclub.com.

Last Friday Live Entertainment, Kids’ Club & Jumping Tent – 26 June
Canada Day Buffet – 28 June
The Committee continues to review member feedback and is working to enhance the overall Club experience through a stronger mix of entertainment, family programming, and food and beverage offerings. Particular attention is being given to refreshing our Friday programming, improving promotion of events, and ensuring activities appeal to a broad cross-section of members
Friday evenings continue to be a key part of the Club experience Whether you're joining us for dinner, drinks, or simply to unwind after the work week, we encourage members to make the Club their Friday destination. With Happy Hour specials, entertainment, and the opportunity to connect with fellow members, Fridays remain one of the best times to enjoy all that the Club has to offer.
Members are also welcome to share feedback or suggestions directly with the Committee at bycentertainmentcomm@gmail.com.
We encourage all members to support Club events, invite fellow members to join them, and help us continue building a welcoming and lively community at Barbados Yacht Club.

The BYC Tennis Team was crowned the 2026 Inter-Club Tennis Champions on Saturday 2nd May following an emphatic 59-33 victory over Paragon Tennis Club at the Raymond Forde Tennis Centre in Wildey.
Having finished runners up in the 2025 tournament, the team was determined to go all the way and regain the trophy they won the previous year. The team, led by Captains Jason Small and Donna Gibbs, played unbeaten throughout the tournament and came up against a very determined Paragon Team which must be commended for their fighting spirit throughout the finals. In the end it was the BYC Team which emerged victorious, lifting the trophy in front of a very appreciative crowd representing all of the clubs which participated in the tournament.
Noah Haynes and Donna Gibbs were voted the Most Valuable Male Player and Most Valuable Female Player respectively for their contributions on and off the court
The Team would like to thank all BYC members who came out each week to give their support to the players. Special thanks also to Peter Marshall for his photography and to the BYC staff for providing the refreshments and organising the facilities for the home matches.
Congrats BYC Team! It was truly a team effort, providing exciting matches and great entertainment during the finals and indeed throughout the entire tournament!
