Re: Resignation from the Committee

I am writing to inform you of some recent developments in my professional life that have impacted on the availability of my personal time.

I have been offered, and I’ve decided to accept the offer, the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Water Authority. As such, that position will require more of my time and, based on the needs of the Club, I will not be able to dedicate the time required to assist my fellow Committee members, and the Management of the Club, with the strategic planning and direction of the Club.

Strategic Plan for 2026-2036

The Sub-Committee of eight appointed by the BYC Committee of Management to prepare the 'Strategic Plan' held an initial meeting with the Committee of Management to discuss their work plan. At a subsequent meeting, the Sub-Committee agreed that the BYC Membership must be engaged so as to understand their vision of the club over the next ten years.

A survey was developed and circulated to all Members, and more than 300 members responded by the deadline of June 15. In addition, in-person stakeholder meetings were held on June 20, 23, and 25 at the Club, where a SWOT analysis was conducted with focus groups.

The Sub-Committee has commenced analysis of the data from the membership surveys and meetings to inform the preparation of the Strategic Plan. It is anticipated that the Sub- Committee will finalize the Strategic Plan by July 31, 2026.

The Sub-Committee members extend thanks to all those Members who participated in the survey and meetings, and also to those who made written submissions.

The HR & Member Services Committee continues to focus on improving both the member and staff experience across the Club. Recent discussions highlighted the strong connection between service quality, staff engagement, and overall member satisfaction.

Several initiatives are now underway, including updates to staff policies and onboarding processes, improvements to recruitment and performance management, and enhanced communication with staff. A comprehensive training programme for Food & Beverage staff and supervisors was completed as part of the Committee’s ongoing commitment to improving service standards, strengthening supervision, and enhancing the overall member experience.

The Committee also reviewed opportunities to enhance the presentation of the beach and Club grounds, improve operational consistency, and strengthen the overall member experience. As we move into the summer period, our focus remains on creating a welcoming, professional, and engaging environment for members, guests, and staff alike.

Members are reminded that children and grandchildren over the age of 18 may only use the Club under Family Membership provisions if they are in full-time education and prior approval has been obtained. Adult children and grandchildren who are not members may visit as guests in accordance with Club rules, and members are encouraged to support the Club by considering membership for those who wish to use the facilities regularly.

We welcome member feedback and look forward to sharing further progress in the coming months.

Beyond the Baseline

This month, we are energized by the results of the survey sent out by the Long-Term Planning Committee as well as the lively discussions at the Town Hall Meetings. We can see clearly that pickleball passion is very much alive! Your overwhelming support for developing pickleball facilities and strengthening our sense of community is inspiring. As this sport grows, we can create something truly special.

Over the past four months, the pickleball committee has stuck to the game plan. We have jumping over lines, rallied for approvals, and volleyed many ideas for facility upgrades. We have been connecting with clubs near and far, spinning through product research, and netting the best quotes. Every shot we have taken has been aimed at one goal, to make pickleball a thriving and inclusive part of our club’s culture.

We know that dreams do not happen overnight; they take planning, persistence, and a shared vision Thanks to your compelling feedback, we can shape our plans around what matters most to you, more opportunities to play, adequate facilities, and events that bring people together both on and off the court. We are now standing on the edge of something exciting, the pieces are coming together, and soon, in conjunction with the Long-Term Planning Committee and you, the members, we will be unveiling updates on opportunities to play, connect and grow.
