Fellow members,

As you have already been advised, Peter Thompson has resigned from the Commodore’s position, and I was asked by our Committee to perform the duties of Commodore of the club until an extraordinary general meeting is held to elect a new Commodore. I take this opportunity on behalf of The Committee and the wider membership of the club to thank Peter for his service to the club and wish him well in his new role at the Barbados Water Authority. I am sure we will be able to call on Peter whenever we need his guidance.

Rule 20 (e) of the club allows The Committee to fill any casual vacancy on the committee except for the position of Flag Officer. Flag Officers need to be elected by the members at a General Meeting. As a result, the notice and agenda of an Extraordinary General Meeting to fill the position of Commodore will be circulated in the near future.

On more committee related news, Mr. Nicholas Lashley has resigned from The Committee and has therefore relinquished the role as Chairman of the Boating Sub Committee. In accordance with the rules of the club, Mr Allan Hodgkinson was appointed by The Committee to fill the casual vacancy on the Committee and will fill the role of Chairman of the Boating Sub Committee.

I wish to encourage more of our members to contribute to the success of our club. The Committee tries to cater to the needs of members of varying ages and backgrounds, and it is important that The Committee and the Sub-Committees represent the demographic of our wider

Technology

We have recently launched our new Omni Wizard Point of sale system together with an updated menu on 15 July and ask that you be patient with our Food and Beverage team as they become more familiar with the new system. During the start up period, you may be asked to validate your personal information in the new system so please cooperate with the team as we do our best to improve the quality of our food and beverages and service levels in the department.

We are currently experiencing problems with our web site and have had to close the site temporarily, this has impacted the reservations of the Tennis and Pickle ball courts. We apologize for this inconvenience and ask that our members use the manual reservation system at The Beach Bar until we can resolve the issue. Some of our IT systems have outlived their useful lives and need to be upgraded, we have already started the work for the benefit of our members.

House and Grounds

In order to improve some of our infrastructure at the club we will be upgrading our electrical systems especially those in the Beach Bar area. We will also be installing the new security gates at the entrance to the club in August. These upgrades will improve the security and safety of our members and staff at the club More information will be provided on these projects as the work commences.

Strategic Plan

The work on the long-term Strategic plan is almost complete and Mr. Andrew Hutchinson, Chairman of the Planning Committee, will present the new strategic plan at the upcoming Extraordinary General Meeting. The Committee looks forward to receiving the necessary support for the plan so that some of the long-awaited projects, including the construction of the new pickle ball courts, can commence.

A hearty hello to all of our members! Thank you for making the Club a part of your summer itinerary. Here are a few quick updates to help keep everything running "shipshape":

Restaurant & Bar

New POS System: Thank you for your continued patience as we streamline our food and beverage operations. Here is how the new process works:

Account Verification: Your server will enter your last name and verify your member account number.

Pick-Up or Table Service: Self-Service: You will receive a buzzer to alert you when your meal is ready for collection.

Table Service: If you prefer to be served at your table, please communicate this to a Beach Ambassador, who can also take your food and drink orders. If your table number is given to the server when placing your order, your meal can be delivered to you.

Signing & Receipts: Please sign your chit at the end of service to confirm receipt. If we have your email on file, the system will automatically send an e-receipt. Just let your server know if you would also like a printed copy!

New Menu: Our new menu has officially launched! It features a blend of classic favorites, updated dishes, and exciting new creations from our Chef. The Food & Beverage Manager and Chef worked hard to bring this together, and we would love your feedback—feel free to send your thoughts directly to the F&B Manager.

After-Hours Access

Facility Access (6:00 PM – 6:00 AM): Members wishing to access the gym, boating lockers, or other Club facilities outside regular hours are kindly asked to notify Security at 253-1125 prior to arrival.

Guest Policy: All guest names must be logged in the Guest Register upon arrival.

Child Safety & Supervision

Tree Climbing: Please remember that children are not permitted to climb the trees on the beach and must be closely supervised at all times. Additional signage will be posted shortly.

Clubhouse Access: The Clubhouse remains off-limits to minors. Only members over the age of 18 are permitted to use the pool table located in the Shot Hall Bar. Additionally, children are not allowed to play or congregate unsupervised in the upstairs meeting rooms or restrooms.

Regatta News

The Massy Stores Dinghy Regatta, sponsored by Massy Stores, was sailed over three Sundays in May and June, with competitors experiencing a wide range of conditions. The opening day brought strong, gusty winds that tested the sailor’s skills to the maximum. Although the winds eased slightly on the second day, they remained challenging. The final day, however, provided slightly more idyllic sailing conditions, allowing competitors to enjoy some close and competitive racing. The results are as follows:

The Harris Offshore Memorial Regatta in memory of Ralph ‘Bruggadung’ Johnson was sailed on Sunday, 3 July. Unfortunately, due to crew issues experienced by some of the boats in the run-up to the event, followed by breakdowns out on the race course, only Gus Reader at the helm of Glory Daze was able to complete the Regatta. Congratulations to Gus and his crew. rd

Summer Sailing Camps

The Barbados Sailing Association’s Summer Sailing Camps, which began in the second week of July, have once again attracted many enthusiastic young sailors, and are proving to be a huge success. Open to students from as young as 7 years old, the camps provide an exciting combination of sailing instruction, adventure and personal development. As participants improve their sailing skill and become more confident on the water, they also learn the importance of teamwork, responsibility and decision making. At the same time they forge new friendships, share memorable experiences and have plenty of fun, both on the water and when ashore.
