Welcome to this final edition of the Bellbuoy for 2023. We have already had several social events leading up to Christmas. Some are featured in this edition of the Bellbuoy – the Arts and Craft Fair, the Annual Zeela De Freitas Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament and the Commodore’s Rum Punch Party on Independence day. Others, such as the Children’s Christmas Party, Christmas lunches, and Carols on the Beach will be featured in January. We still have the Christmas dinner on the 20th December and, of course, our usual New Year’s Eve Dinner and/or Beach Party.
This month was also the annual presentation of sailing prizes. It occurred too late to go in this edition of the Bellbuoy but will be featured in January. However, I congratulate all the winners. The annual Barbados Sailing Week, including the Mount Gay Round Island Race, will be held next month. The Yacht Club partners with the Cruising Club and the Barbados Sailing Association in hosting the week’s events which will include some social events at the beach and to which all members are invited to attend. Details will be posted early in the New Year. I regret to inform members that Derek Johnson passed away on 14th December after a short illness. He had been a member since November 2004. He was a sailor and will be much missed by the sailing community. We send our condolences to his family and friends. I wish all our members, guests and visitors a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
All our special events have been well received by those who attended. Our Events Coordinator and all the staff who made the events so successful are to be commended.

HIGHLIGHTS ART & CRAFT FAIR
Our Art & Craft Fair is one of the “must-attend” events on our holiday calendar. Many look forward to this event as it is perfect for getting their holiday shopping started. As always, there was something for everyone on display, from books and jams to jellies, paintings and handmade items.

HEATHER LYNCH’S RETIREMENT PARTY CELEBRATING HEATHER Member Services Coordinator Heather Lynch retired at the end of October. Heather was employed by the Club for twenty-five years and her years of service were celebrated with a retirement party held in November.

2023 Zeela De Freitas Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament Article by Brian Cadogan
Following an action-packed week of tennis, the annual Zeela Defreitas Mixed Doubles Tournament Finals took place on Friday November 24th. Always one of the highlights of the tennis calendar, this special fun tournament which is held in memory of one of our past members Zeela Defreitas, brings together a wide cross-section of tennis members in a special format involving the swapping of partners. Following some closely fought matches the winners of this year competition were Noah Haynes and Donna Gibbs. Congratulations to all finalists and indeed all participants throughout the week! The tennis sub-committee would like to thank the family of Zeela Defreitas (Mrs Anne Shepherd and Mrs. Liz Inniss) for their support in hosting this special event and encourage all members to stay tuned for more events on the tennis calendar in 2024.

KNOW THE RULES/REGULATIONS? BABY CHANGING FACILITIES We wish to remind members that there is an area for changing babies in the ladies changing room as well as the senior’s washroom which is only a few steps away from the beach. Members are kindly asked to please dispose of dirty nappies/diapers appropriately. Your cooperation will be appreciated.
SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN Children under the age of 16 are the responsibility of their parents or guardians who shall ensure they do not unduly disrupt Members. Children who are guests are under the responsibility of the member who invited them to the club. Children should not be allowed to play in the bar area.
