THE MISSION
The Tommy Tune Awards (TTA) Program celebrates the educational value, artistry, and community of high school musical theatre throughout Greater Houston.
EDUCATION | No matter the role in the creative process, experiences in the arts cultivate confidence, spark creative thinking, and inspire life-long learning.
ARTISTRY | The arts are a haven for exploration, reflection, and innovation. The Tommy Tune Awards is an opportunity for students and educators to share their creative accomplishments as individuals, collaborators, and members of the greater Houston community.
COMMUNITY | We believe in the power of learning, collaborating, and growing together. As we celebrate our shared experience of musical theatre, we as an artistic and educational community enhance the future of our students, our art, and our city.
ABOUT THE TOMMY TUNE AWARDS
From Fall 2025 through Spring 2026, Houston-area schools submitted their musical productions for participation in the Tommy Tune Awards adjudication process. Eligible, licensed live musicals were evaluated by up to three adjudicators using a 12-point rubric across 19 award categories. Schools received written feedback and nomination details within three weeks of their adjudication date, delivered directly to the designated school contacts, including creative team members and administrators.
Throughout the season, schools were nominated across multiple categories. Finalists were announced in April, and winners will be revealed during tonight’s Tommy Tune Awards, culminating in a two-week rehearsal period that began on April 21.
Best Musical Finalists were evaluated using a two-tier system designed to promote equity among schools with varying production budgets. Schools with budgets of $11,999 and under were classified as Tier 1, while those with budgets of $12,000 and above were designated as Tier 2. The overall Best Musical winner was determined by the highest total score, regardless of tier.
The Tommy Tune Awards serve as the Houston regional qualifier for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Also known as the Jimmy Awards®, the national ceremony highlights the best of high school musical theatre talent and features nominees from over 50 regions across the U.S.
This year’s Outstanding Lead Finalists submitted detailed paperwork to TUTS Education staff to be considered as representatives for Theatre Under The Stars at the Jimmy Awards, held June 22 in New York City debate. Two student representatives will be announced this evening.

Theatre Under The Stars acts as the administrative body of the Tommy Tune Awards, coordinating school and adjudication schedules, facilitating the scholarship award process, and producing the awards show.

TUTS is honored to help shine a light on some of the incredibly talented artists who call Houston home. Theatre Under The Stars awards merit and needs-based scholarships to outstanding students from schools participating in the 2025 - 2026 Tommy Tune Awards Program. The recipients range from performers, designers, directors, technicians, choreographers, and musicians who have been involved in their school’s Tommy Tune production.
The schools participating in this year’s Tommy Tune Awards Program are examples of the distinct impact that the arts and arts education make in our community. Through the Tommy Tune Awards, Theatre Under The Stars has awarded over 200 student university scholarships, totaling over $610,000 in individual arts-based scholarships.
