Canada sees fastest population growth since 1957, driven mostly by immigration: StatCan

anada has seen its highest population growth rate since the height of the baby boom, mostly driven by immigration, according to Statistics Canada data released Wednesday. As of July 1, the number of people living in Canada sat at an estimated 38.9 million, an increase of 0.7 per cent, or 284,982 people, from April 1, 2022. The estimate, marking the highest pace of quarterly growth since 1957,

represents an increase o f more than 3,100 people per day. According to Statistics Canada, international m i g r a t i o n accounted for 94.5 per cent of this growth, an increase of 269,305 people. “This was the highest increase from

BC Liberal may become BC United The BC Liberals are pitching a new team name to its membership. After a province-wide consultation, the party has chosen BC United as the name that will go forward to party members for a vote by the end of the year.

BC is in grip of drought conditions - province says Drought and water scarcity is currently a widespread issue in the province, according to the B.C. government. Much of the west coast, south coast and northeastern areas of B.C. have experienced very little to no rainfall over the past five weeks and to compound issues, more dry weather is forecast. “Areas under Drought Level 4 include the Fort Nelson basin, the Sunshine Coast basin, Lower Mainland basin, and the east and west Vancouver Island basins,” said Ministry of Forests staff in a release.
