Charges laid in extortion cases in Surrey & Abby A 22-year-old is facing several firearms and arson charges in connection with three extortionrelated attacks in Surrey and Abbotsford. India's trade delegation billed as ‘largest ever’ in Canada this week A delegation from India, which Canada’s government is billing as the largest ever, will arrive this week to discuss trade and investment. Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will be accompanied by more than 100 senior business representatives from industries such as mining, energy, automotive and aerospace during the visit, which takes place Monday to Wednesday, according to a release from his ministry. The release says Goyal will meet with Canada’s minister of international trade, Maninder Sidhu, to continue discussions about a Comprehensive Economic and Partnership Agreement between the two countries, and explore new opportunities. “Both countries are committed to fast-tracking the negotiations,” says the release. Goyal is also expected to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, as well as CEOs of leading companies, startups and pension funds. Global Affairs Canada says Sidhu is scheduled to meet with Goyal on Monday morning in Ottawa. Continued on Page 7...

Indian Miniter Piyush Goyal pays tribute to Air India bombing victims

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal paid tribute to the victims of the Air India Flight 182 bombing at the Kanishka Memorial and met the families of the victims. Air India Flight 182 bombing one of the deadliest acts of aviation terrorism in history, in which all 329 passengers and crew were killed. The aircraft, also known as Kanishka, exploded over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Ireland after a bomb had been placed on board. The flight was operating from Toronto to India via Montreal and London. Goyal, meeting with the families of the victims, reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Canada to strengthening cooperation to ensure such a tragedy is never repeated. Continued on Page 14...
