Massive PoK protests intensify as Leader warns hunger may push people towards India

Massive protest erupts in Pakistan's Rawalkot as crowds chant ‘PoJK is not a part of Pakistan’ and even raise pro-India slogans. The ongoing demonstrations in Rawalakot, Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), stem from a deepseated dispute between the regional populace and the federal government in Islamabad. The current unrest escalated following a call by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to protest the non-implementation of an agreement signed in October 2025. While the initial grievances focused on economic hardships—specifically inflation, high electricity tariffs, and severe shortages of wheat flour—the core of the current mobilization centers on broader constitutional and political demands. Drug bust in Surrey leads to arrests and deportations

How Modi has remade India

Police in Surrey, B.C., say a trafficking investigation has led to the discovery of large quantities of illicit drugs, charges against a 24-year-old man, and the deportation of two others. Police say their investigation began in February, setting off the search of a home in May, where the illicit drugs were found. The search uncovered about 16 kilograms of opium, along with quantities of cannabis, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine and heroin. More than $2,000 in cash was also found, and three people were arrested at the scene before being released pending the investigation. Police say 24-year-old Gurjot Singh was arrested last Friday and has now been charged with one count of trafficking and five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. The two other men who weren't charged were removed from the country by the Canada Border Services Agency.

By Shashi Tharoor: On June 10, Narendra Modi became the country’s longest continuously serving elected prime minister, overtaking India’s independence-era hero, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 days in office following the first general elections. While Nehru led India for five years before those first elections, and Indira Gandhi served longer overall, but not continuously, Modi undoubtedly ranks alongside them as one of India’s three most influential postindependence leaders. Modi’s legacy, like theirs, will define India’s path. Already, Modi has led India’s most profound realignment since 1947, overseeing dizzying progress in economic modernisation and state-capacity development, as well as dismaying setbacks on institutional independence and minority inclusion. Analysing these shifts is not merely an academic exercise. Continued on Page 14...

22-year-old Punjab man held with drugs, loaded firearm in Canada The Extortion Task Force of Canada’s Peel Regional Police has charged a 22-year-old Punjab-origin man in connection with two violent incidents in Brampton linked to the organised crime group “For Brothers”, following his arrest by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). According to Peel Regional Police, a business in Brampton was targeted in a shooting around 2.50 am on April 21. The suspect fled in a silver car, and investigators recovered 14 shell casings from the scene.

In a separate incident on May 6 around 8 pm, a man was leaving his residence when he was approached by an unidentified individual. The accused allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim, but the weapon malfunctioned. The victim escaped unhurt, and the suspect fled in a grey car. On June 23, EPS officers arrested Safaldeep Singh during a traffic stop. Police recovered a quantity of drugs and a loaded illegal firearm from his possession, leading to firearms and drug-related charges. Continued on Page 7...
