Police investigating extortion related shootings ion Surrey-Delta Police in Surrey and North Delta are investigating separate targeted shootings on Wednesday, both of which are believed to be connected to the ongoing extortion crisis in Metro Vancouver. At about 1:30 a.m., Surrey Police Service officers were called to a home in the 12300-block of 77A Avenue in the Newton neighbourhood. The home had been damaged by bullets but no one was injured. While police are still at the residence collecting evidence, “it appears that this incident is related to the ongoing series of extortions in Surrey,” said Sgt. Tige Pollock in a statement. Meanwhile, Delta police responded to reports of shots fired at a home in the area of 84th Avenue and Brooke Road Shortly after 5 a.m. The residence was occupied at the time but no one was injured in the shooting, according to police. This shooting is believed to be connected to a continuing extortion investigation, according to the Delta Police major crime section, which is leading the probe.
Premier David Eby on trade mission to India B.C. Conning temporary foreign workers into paying bogus government fees to work in Canada has landed three Calgary restaurant owners jail terms. Justice Sandra Mah on Monday agreed with Crown prosecutor Brandy O’Ferrall that a period behind bars was warranted for Maninkandan Kasinathan, Chandramoahan Marjak and Mary Roche for defrauding their employees.
