In this workshop, we’ll explore how stacking wheel-thrown vessels can unlock new possibilities in form, height, and movement. Instead of being limited by what can be thrown in a single pull, we’ll learn how to build vertically combining multiple pieces to achieve taller silhouettes and more dynamic shapes. Together, we’ll focus on thoughtful joins, proportion, and structural balance while pushing our forms beyond the wheel’s typical limits. This approach not only allows for ambitious scale but also invites experimentation with curves, transitions, and unexpected profiles. Whether you’re looking to challenge your technical skills or expand your sculptural voice on the wheel, this session will give you practical techniques and a new way of thinking about building with clay. Participants will experiment with a variety of materials and objects to produce unique compositions through handson processes rooted in early photography. Once exposed to sunlight, these surfaces create distinctive, blue-toned contact prints that can range from bold, graphic designs to delicate botanical-style images. Students will also be using the technique of Lumen Prints; students will work with silver gelatin composition and its allure from yesteryear as a creative tool for photographic play. This workshop emphasizes creative exploration and the playful nature of alternative photographic processes. Students do not need a camera or previous photographic experience. The workshop will be rescheduled to Friday, June 19, in the event of dark or stormy weather. If both days have unfavorable conditions, the workshop will be canceled, and tuition will be refunded.
