ABOUT THE ISSUE Living in Washington, D.C., means engaging with the grandiose on an everyday basis. Immense concrete buildings shape the physical landscape, and their brutalist architecture transforms the city into a world of striking geometry and unforgiving edges. Whether at Federal Center SW or on the National Mall, the District’s edifices create a canvas for fashion to stand out. For this fall’s fashion issue, The Guide chose clothes that reflect the structure built into the fabric of the city while also breathing new life into the dreary winter days with bursts of color and texture. The clothes radiate strength — a strength that refuses to be boxed in.
