PH trails behind Southeast Asian Peers in PISA

Trailing behind its Southeast Asian counter parts, except for Cambodia., the Philippines has fall en to the 7th position in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 rankings.

According to data from PISA, 15-year-old Filipino students demonstrated below-average proficiency in all three categories assessed, namely Math, Reading, and Science. The results indicate that Filipino students did not meet the minimum knowledge expected for their age group, with only a marginal percentage reaching basic proficiency levels.

Specifically, Filipino students scored 16% in Math, 23% in Reading, and 24% in Science, highlighting signifi cant gaps in educational attainment compared to their peers in other countries.

The disparity becomes more apparent when comparing the scores to top-ranking countries like Sin

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the affected 13 barangays were Baobaoan, Mandamo, San Vicente, Baan Riverside, Golden Ribbon, Pangabugan, Mahogany, Maon, Buhangin, Agusan Pequeño, Aupagan, Obrero, and Bading. The CDRRMO issued Water Level Flood Alert No. 3 for the continuing forced evacuation of residents residing along the Agusan River as the water level reached a critical 3.1-meter level.

“As the water level continuously rises due to the volume of water from the southern part of Mindanao and Butuan City as the catch basin, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department strongly imposed forced evacuation on all the barangays situated along the river banks and continuously monitors the status of their area of responsibility,” CDRRMO

The increase in the water level of the Agusan River is caused by the flooding in parts of neighboring Agusan del Sur and Davao de Oro provinces due to the continuous rains caused by the trough of a low-pressure area since last

“Flooding is occurring at the midstream and downstream areas of the basin, particularly along riverside areas, and will also likely persist for a few days due to the volume of water discharge from the upstream,” the Butuan City advisory stated.

‘Drug Campaign’ to combat illegal drug involvement

In a proactive effort to address concerns surrounding student involvement in illegal drugs, San Vicente National High School (SVNHS) has initiated a comprehensive ‘Drug Campaign’ at the onset of the second quarter.

Reports circulating within the school community regarding alleged drug dealing activities involving students prompted immediate action from school authorities. To address these rumors and ensure the safety and well-being of students, the school collaborated with local law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.

“The students had suspicious sachets containing a powder resembling an illegal drug,” a witness said during an interview.

During the investigation, witnesses reported the discovery of suspicious sachets containing a powder

resembling illegal drugs in the possession of both junior high school and senior high school students. Upon receiving this information, school officials swiftly intervened, contacting the suspects and retrieving the sachets for further examination. Subsequent analysis confirmed the presence of illegal substances within the confiscated sachets.

“We don’t tolerate having students associate themselves with illegal activities such as drug dealing inside and outside school premises.”, Mr. Ronnel Fer nandez, School Guidance Counselor stressed.

Expressing zero tolerance for any form of involvement in illegal ac tivities, Mr. Fernandez, a teacher spearheading the campaign, emphasized the school’s firm stance on maintaining a drug-free environment both on and off school premises. In accordance with established protocols and policies, strin-

gent sanctions, including suspension and community service, were imposed on the implicated students.

The implementation of the ‘Drug Campaign’ underscores SVNHS’s commitment to promoting a safe and drug-free learning environment for all students. Through collaboration with law enforcement authorities and proactive measures, the school aims to prevent and address issues related to illegal drug involvement among its student body.

COMMUNITYNews 469 San Vicente Residents seek shelter in school

In response to the escalating threat posed by the rising waters of the Agusan River, San Vicente residents living near the river banks evacuated to San Vicente National High School to ensure their safety and sought shelter for their family’s protection against the increasing Agusan’s water level.

The decision to evacuate was made on February 11, with the situation necessitating the implementation of asynchronous classes for an entire week to accommodate the displaced residents.

With the release of water from the Davao de Oro dam causing the river’s levels to surge, 110 families,

comprising a total of 469 evacuees, have been evacuated to SVNHS, as reported by the School Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (SDRRMC).

“We have contingency plans in place for such emergencies,” stated Yanda Codaste, coordinator of the SDRRMC, in an inter-

“The school prioritizes the safety and welfare of the students. Even though, we conducted earthquake drills here in school. It is still important to keep them safe at home.”, Ms. Yanda Codaste, SDDRRM Coordinator said.

In response to the safety concerns, SVNHS temporarily suspended classes and transitioned to asynchronous learning to ensure the well-being

of students. Asynchronous classes continue to be held as authorities assess the situation and ensure safety measures are in place.

Emergency shelters have been established in schools to accommodate the displaced families, numbering 2,947, and relief operations are underway to provide essential supplies. Approximately 9,308 individuals across the affected barangays have been impacted, necessitating the activation of 32 evacuation centers within the city.

In response to the crisis, classes have been suspended, and the Department of Education has called off synchronous classes, prioritizing the safety of schoolchildren amidst the emergency.

As the situation unfolds, authorities continue to monitor and manage the crisis, urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols. Butuan City remains steadfast in its efforts to address the challenges posed by the flooding, rallying community support and resources to mitigate the impact on its residents.

As the community navigates the aftermath of the earthquake, authorities are working to provide support and resources to those affected while emphasizing the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of natural disasters. EASE THE BURDEN

For the longest time, due to a lack of non-teaching personnel and implementing a number of new projects and programs, the Department of Education adds loads of administrative tasks to teachers that are not inherently part of their original job description and essence . As a result, they are constantly taken away from the four corners of the classroom to actually do their job - teach.

Teachers are in joy as they can now proceed in teaching without additional governmental loads that makes it difficult for them to educate the children which is their priority. Burden has been lifted from public school teachers as Vice-president Sara Z. Duterte, DepEd Secretary, signed DepEd Order no. 002 s. of 2024 entitled, “Immediate Removal of Administrative Tasks of Public Schools Teachers.”.

Aiming to leave a litter-free event, the zero waste group showed the Filipinos to conduct a program and end it with no trash at all. They demonstrated that we, Filipinos, can be disciplined and follow policy religiously with the thought of a new nation- “Bangong Pilipinas”. The rally which took place on January 28, 2024, as the observance of the zero-waste month comes to a close. The rally is an event described as a “historic gathering” that seeks to ignite hope and inspire people in building our country a better place. In this event, many people from the government and even President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. came to discuss the problems of our country and to build a strong nation.

The Eco waste Coalition urged people to bring their own food and reusable containers to avoid plastic and littering, it also asked the organizers to remind and monitor the people. Though there are a lot of people and it’s probably going to be hard to control such a group, the group hopes that everyone will follow their imposed policy for a trash-free environment. As fellow Filipinos, the rally is a good beginning in making our country litter-free. The rally is giving an impact in the entire Philippines, giving inspiration and thought of improving our country. Also to see the government thinking about the environment makes us proud as Filipinos. From what we’ve seem in social media, pictures and videos, we are improving in making our country cleaner and hope that we continue to improve.

As we remember, festivities in the Philippines gave us an aftermath of tons of garbage which causes pollution. It pollutes our cities, destroys our country’s natural beauty and may injure animals and even people.

In conclusion, everyone must try to participate in trying to make our country litter-free such as following the 3r’s, putting our garbage in the right trash bin, and influencing the people around you. Also, we must participate in cleaning activities such as general cleaning, trash picking at beaches or parks and even house cleaning. Continuing in maintaining cleanliness of our environment will allow us to preserve nature’s beauty and possibly pass it to other generations. Let us live by example.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. stated that defamation and toxic mindset which is the ‘crab mentality’ of filipinos has no room in the new Philippines. In a video posted on YouTube yesterday, Marcos called for unity and attitude change, saying in a new Philippines requires a “Bagong Pilipinas.”

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte accused PBBM for being a drug addict and even challenged him to undergo a drug test that would prove his own allegations towards the President during his speech in a prayer rally against People’s initiative for Charter Change last Jan. 28, the same day Marcos’ recap video of the launch of the ‘Bagong Pilipinas.’ Duterte’s claimed made us suspicious especially PBBM just laughed and did not deny when a reporter questioned him about being included in the watchlist of the Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency.

Brainless Zombie

Though, the assumptions made by FPRRD was incredibly hypothetical, still the President himself remained silent. Marcos brushed aside his predecessor’s tirades; attributing them to the former president’s use of the highly addictive painkiller fentanyl. Furthermore, Marcos adviced Duterte’s doctors to take more care of him.

Marcos urged Filipinos to do their part to achieve the goals of the Bagong Pilipinas campaign, in the exact YouTube video. He also added that the campaign also emphasizes the importance of quality service in the government.

Over 400,000 people attended the Bagong Pilipinas kick-off rally. During the campaign launch, Marcos said that the Bagong Pilipinas is not a political plan that caters to a privilege few but it is a master plan for genuine development of all people.

Furthermore, PBBM shared how the change should begin in the government and directed agencies to address red tape, finish projects on time and avoid laziness, arrogance and corruption. Filipinos are encourage to have attitude change which fosters negativity and open with the new PH what government trying to instill us. He ended his speech stating. “In the new Philippines, everyone has hope—the hope of the nation is in all of us. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!”

Attitude Change OPINION

Numerous innocent Filipinos have been killed for the reason of conflict between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the New People’s Army (NPA), as violence is vivid in the depths of the forest where a bloody dogfight occurs. Those powerful leaders that play dirty, manipulate the brainless zombies who brainwashes the crooked ideology of opposing government power.

Circulating across social media, a lawyer named Hannah Jay A. Cesista graduated as cum laude in the University of the Philippines (UP). Cebu, who passed the bar exam last year, died as an NPA member. She was killed from an encounter amongst the CPP-NPA and AFP-PNP in Bilar, Bohol, last February 23, 2024.

With her death from battling in the “useless” war and upon knowing her decision in joining the unneeded army, Atty. Hannah Cesista’s family was devastated. We, who heard this news from the internet, were shocked with her bravery and also felt disappointed since she just wasted years and years and years of studying law which is one of the most difficult courses to grasp.

Risky Accusation

This feud had intrigued us, people from the society and it cut one’s support in half. Some of us stand with Duterte’s accusations and some sided with PBBM.

Duterte’s allegations were incredibly hypothetical and made us suspicious about our President. It even worsened with PBBM not denying and just laughed when a reporter questioned him about being included in the watchlist

of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Marcos also stated that Duterte only said those as it was an effect for him taking highly addictive drugs known as Fentanyl. He also advised Duterte’s doctors that they should often take more care of his health. With the reasons and claims of PBBM, citizens thought that his point was ‘pointless’ and did not even answer the reporter. The issue about this

Filipinos who united with the New People’s Army must have been greatly urged to fully support this club of brainless zombies, exchanging their jobs and even their families.

However, these people just desperately want to be heard. Let us not deny that sometimes, we also do not relish the ideas of the governors, majority of us do not totally like this damned justice system. Only by being too eager to voice out their remarks towards the government, they found a move; using the impotence of those seated on top for them to be noticed.

the government. In other ways, these opposition allow those with authority to tip-toe in corruption and abuse their power.

Though the government cannot listen to all our claims and complaints, we do not need to join illegal groups that rebel and seek aid for our country. We too, do want to be heard, but, it should not lead to any “useless” wars ----- we are not desperate! This should come to an end. “Peace and Unity” shall unify for the better future of our children.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that as of February 13, there have been

49 landslides

Source: reliefweb

Tuesday night, 6th of February, this year. The Apex Mining Co. Inc. reported in the Philippine Stock Exchange for their reduction of sales and losses of business due to epic tragedy from the extreme precipitation.

In a statement from the Razon-controlled mining company last Feb. 7, they said they are now decreasing the capacity of their daily operation which incredibly affects the gold and silver production. By then, lowering their work loads will surely shorten the production of natural resources and slow the progress of the country, but will ensure the safety of miners.

The tragedy brought forth restricted access to the mine site, limiting only to receiving supplies, other services supported, and for employees/miners. In this case, the mining company’s service will possibly be sluggish because of limited workers.

Suppressing the Transgression

For the past year, the country’s crime rate has dropped to 8 percent in the first 10 months last year. Undeniably, numerous crimes had occurred in the past several years in contrast of last year and this present year; However, the Philippine National Police (PNP) are always on their duty to evaluate and secure the whole locality to minimize transgressions and achieve tangible realities for peace and order.

The police force had recorded a decreased of index crimes from 34,908 cases dropped into 2,877 last 2 years. Also, from 34,702 cases in 2023 dropped into 31,864 cases which the misdemeanors rate has dropped by 8.18 percent.

According to PNP Chief Acorda Jr., the promising outcomes stood as a clear testament to the tireless and coordinated efforts of the PNP contrary to popular narratives. The success reflects the PNP’s commitment of ‘Serbisyong Nagkakaisa’ and their unwavering vow to decisively suppress criminal activities, ensuring the safety and security of the communities saying that more than numbers of people had been arrested and surrendered due to the crimes they execute.

Moreover, the PNP data shows 1.72% of the reported crimes which are committed by children. The PNP’s are working double to evaluate and determine the situations to have clear information and investigations of the misdemeanors.

Furthermore, the investigators already have leads on the cases particularly on the identification of the suspects. PNP’s are doing their duties in investigating and determining the identities of the suspects and bring them to justice.

Suppressing transgression and crime in the Philippines is a complex and multifaceted endeavor that demands coordinated efforts from government, civil society, and the private sector.

By addressing underlying social and economic inequalities, strengthening law enforcement and governance systems, fostering community resilience, and embracing technological innovations, we can create a safer and more prosperous future for all Filipinos. It is time to unite in our commitment to building a society where justice, security, and opportunity are not mere aspirations but tangible realities.

However, despite the kindness and respect the company showed and did, many speculations and fake news spread through the internet. It can be recalled that the Apex clarified the false information circulating across social media. Many citizens said that the incident happened inside the company’s operation area or 500 meters away from the company gate.

Apex stated clarifying the issues towards them that the area where the slide happened was outside the mine site of Apex mining. But, the said area is where the buses that ferry the employees of the mining company wait for its passengers.

Chief Beverly Bravante from Mines Geosciences Bu reau (MGB)-Davao Geoscienc es Division confirmed in a Budyong online press con ference earlier this week that Brgy. Masara is one of the areas in the province that has been long listed as a ‘no build zone’ since the year 2008. Though it was verified by the Chief Beverly Bravante of (MGB)-Davao Geosciences, still the mining company continued their jobs and services not bothering that the area has no room for any building.

“Following the landslide that happened in Barangay Masara, Davao de Oro at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6, Apex mining is on limited operations because it is fully supporting the rescue operations led by the provincial government of Davao de Oro,” Apex stated. After the terrible incident that occurred, focusing and supporting the rescue is moral and ethical for the mining company’s name.

Nevertheless, in times of these catastrophes, let us not worsen just by spreading our own speculations without even knowing what is real. Worry No More

Prices of goods are finally accelerating at a slower pace for the straight month in January, as Food prices continue to stabilize. Filipinos are now able to worry no more as the inflation rate is well within the government’s target range.

The Philippine Statistics Authority on Tuesday, February 6, reported that the inflation rate in January eased further to 2.8%, which is well within the government’s target range of 2% to 4%. The lat est figure is lower than the 3.9% posted in December 2023, and the 8.7% re corded in January 2023.

Efficiency of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has resulted students to being highly dependent and relying only in the computer brain. This may be a setback affecting our study habits and drive for self-learning. Students may be quite sluggish at times that we may forget to do some assignments or activities and end up resorting to “ChatGPT” or AI. Students now acquire multiple options, unlike long ago that stu dents have to depend on their own intelligence alone.

Though tech nology was bound to advance in the first place, after all numerous people would volunteer to upgrade it even further, its just students taking advantage of its advancement. It is not necessarily a bad thing

As inflation finally eases, let’s hope and continue to work hard and improve so that inflation would eventually stop. In sum, our country needs improvement and with the help of our volunteering country we may finally live in a worry no more environment.

after all people didn’t use fire as the only source of light forever. Some students even go further as adding AI into their lifestyle and it won’t be long until this disease is spread among a lot more students. It’s not long until we realize that this disease has already existed long ago during the pandemic, that students would search and devour the answers they would find for their modules.

of AI, it also reduces human interaction. Learning is also about interacting, not just about getting information. Relying on AI for learning could develop personalized learning which isn’t that bad but depending too much could reduce face-to-face time with teachers and other students; this could affect social development.

Still, the answer to the question, “will students be devoured by the enhancement and efficiency of AI?” depends on how the students wield and use AI. Until then, zoom in for the benefits in the advent of AI, and zoom out for all its longing effects and relying only and becoming brainless.

TURNING A BLIND EYE

The Cost of Being Complicit

A child walks aimlessly as the shockwaves deafen his ears with only ringing left behind. With rubble dust covering his entire face full of dried dark blood and tattered clothes, he cries for the name of his Ommi and Abu who may no longer be able to return his calls.

This nameless child is one of the 893,000 who are constantly displaced from their families and homes. Right now, 2.2 Million palestines, including children, are forcibly pushed out of their homes and thousands upon thousands of their people dead with these new wave of genocide.

Yet, this has been on-going for 75 years of woe. Despite the Jewish kingdom being overthrown by powerful superpowers at their times such as the Roman empire and leaving Palestines to establish a land for generations to come, they resurrect their historical claim to establish a Jewish state powered by the Zionist Movement.

While there is glaring injustice by the endless stream of images and

videos that clearly paint the desperate and inhu mane scenario suffered by the Palestines. However, many remain silent. Stay ing silent in the face of oppression is not a neutral decision. It is enabling an oppressor to continue de stroying lives upon lives.

Many question the power of likes and shares or voicing out concerns in Social Media. A few argue that it is pretentious to do so. However, when we start liking, sharing, and posting accurately about the status quo of Pales tines, we send the sym bolic message to those we side with. It influences the mindset of those who en gage with the post, even if it is just a small impact, to empathize with the true victims of these cleansing. More importantly, we rally a common outcry for jus tice and to push for those who refuse to acknowl edge the humanity we collectively share.

DISPCIPLINE DILEMMA

Teachers’ Agony in the System

Teachers play a pivotal role not only in imparting knowledge but also in shaping the character and behavior of their students in the intricate tapestry of Philippine education. However, amidst the complexities of modern society, teachers often find themselves at the center of contentious debates regarding discipline in schools.

Discipline is a cornerstone of effective education, providing students with structure, boundaries, and a sense of accountability. However, in a rapidly changing social landscape characterized by shifting family dynamics, technological advancements, and evolving cultural norms, the definition and implementation of discipline have become increasingly nuanced and contentious. Teachers are tasked with maintaining order in the classroom while navigating diverse student behaviors and parental expectations.

In the Philippines, parents hold deeply entrenched beliefs about discipline, often viewing teachers as the primary enforcers of rules and standards. When conflicts arise between teachers and students or when disciplinary measures are taken, some parents may be quick to blame teachers for perceived injustices or inadequacies. This blame

can stem from a variety of factors, including misunderstandings, cultural differences, or a lack of communication between home and school. “As a teacher, I am hesitant to discipline students because I already experience being talked back and posted in the social media. I feel hopeless when a parent rants and report to the principal office without prior consultation what happen in the classroom.” An English teacher stated. For Filipino teachers, navigating disciplinary challenges requires a delicate balance of firmness, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. Establishing clear expectations, fostering open communication with parents, and collaborating with colleagues and administrators are essential strategies for maintaining a positive classroom environment. Additionally, ongoing professional development and training in conflict resolution, cultural competence, and restorative practices can

empower teachers to address disciplinary issues effectively while nurturing students’ social and emotional well-being.

At the heart of resolving disciplinary conflicts lies the importance of building trust and collaboration between teachers, parents, and students. Open channels of communication, parent-teacher conferences, and parental involvement in school activities can further strengthen the bonds between home and school, fostering a shared commitment to the success and well-being of every student.

As Philippine schools continue to evolve in response to the changing needs of students and communities, the role of teachers in promoting discipline remains indispensable. Together, let us recognize and honor the dedication and resilience of teachers in shaping the future of Philippine education, one lesson, and one student at a time.

AddressingMentalHealthAmongStudents

In the bustling classrooms and vibrant campuses of the Philippines, a silent crisis is unfolding—one that often goes unnoticed but leaves deep scars on the hearts and minds of the nation’s youth. Amidst the pursuit of academic excellence and the pressures of societal expectations, students across the archipelago are grappling with a myriad of mental health challenges.

Behind the smiles and laughter, many Filipino students carry a heavy burden of stress, anxiety, and depression. Academic pressures, familial expectations, financial constraints, and social uncertainties weigh heavily on their shoulders, creating a perfect storm for mental health struggles. Moreover, the stigma surrounding mental illness often prevents students from seeking help or speaking out, leading to feelings of isolation and despair.

Despite the obstacles they face, Filipino students are resilient and resourceful in navigating the complexities of their mental health journeys. Peer support networks, student organizations, and counseling services play a crucial role in providing a safe space for students to share their experiences, seek guidance, and find solace in knowing they are not alone. Additionally, educators and parents are increasingly recognizing the importance of

promoting mental well-being and are taking steps to foster a nurturing environment that values emotional health as much as academic achievement.

One of the most significant barriers to addressing mental health issues among Filipino students is the pervasive silence and stigma surrounding the topic. Culturally ingrained beliefs about mental illness as a sign of weakness or spiritual affliction often prevent students from seeking help or confiding in others. Breaking down these barriers requires a concerted effort to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and promote open dialogue about mental health in schools, communities, and homes. To truly support the mental health of Filipino students, it is essential to adopt a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of distress while providing resources and interventions to promote resil-

ience and well-being. This includes implementing mental health education programs in schools, training educators and counselors to recognize and respond to students’ needs, and expanding access to mental health services, including counseling, therapy, and psychiatric care.

“Our school supports the programs and activities on promoting psychological and mental health of our students. This activities is very essential in the holistoc development of our learners., “ Marie Ellen Carampatana, School Nurse stated. By fostering a culture of empathy, we can empower Filipino students to thrive. Together, let us break the silence, challenge the stigma, and create a brighter future where every student’s mental well-being is valued, protected, and nurtured.

tory and struggles of the Filipinos. We have been dominated and subjugated to a sub condition of human existence. Regardless of who is dominating, a superpower has been the cause of these inhuman mistreatment and human rights violations. The Palestinian struggle for freedom from the ongoing genocide are very much the same of the Filipino Struggle. Both have suffered the deaf ears and blind eyes of courts with unjust accusations of being the breeding ground

of terrorism and were sentenced to death. Both have experienced casualties because of so-called “Provoked”. Both have suffered great losses due to some historical blur of a claim on land.

Yet, the moral fabric of ascending these struggles and fighting for freedom cannot be seen in the global fight for the lives of the Palestinian people. Over 30,000 lives lost and 2.2 Million have been displaced from Gaza over the attacks from the Israeli Government. However, our stand still is with Israel.

Why? Perhaps, we are strongly tied with our Biblical belief in the old testament that Israel is the chosen people of God despite the New testament overriding this fact.

We, as Filipinos, know firsthand what it is like to be displaced, mistreated, killed by a superpower .Our sympathy must and should be with those who share the experience. Perhaps, our loyalties must be with God who, in principle, does not approved the construction an apartheid state built on the blood of people , founded on genocide.

The addictive nature of social media can have profound consequences on students’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Excessive screen time has been linked to increased feelings of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and poor sleep quality among adolescents. Moreover, the constant comparison to curated

images and lifestyles portrayed on social media can erode self-esteem and fuel feelings of inadequacy and FOMO (fear of missing out). Addressing social media addiction requires a multifaceted approach that promotes digital wellness and responsible technology use. Schools can incorporate digital literacy and mindfulness education into their curriculum to help students develop healthy habits and critical thinking skills related to social media consumption.

Parents can model positive screen-time behaviors and establish clear guidelines and boundaries around device usage at home. Ultimately, the goal is not to demonize social media but to empower students to become responsible digital citizens who use technology mindfully

and intentionally. By promoting critical thinking, media literacy, and self-regulation skills, we can equip students with the tools they need to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly, ensuring that social media enhances rather than detracts from their overall well-being. It is crucial to prioritize the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of students. By raising awareness about social media addiction, promoting digital wellness initiatives, and fostering supportive communities, we can empower students to cultivate a healthy relationship with technology and lead balanced, fulfilling lives both online and offline. ous coughing has been a concern in several nations, with numerous deaths reported in the Philippines and other countries. The infectious disease Pertussis, is commonly difficult to detect early and can be fatal, especially in children and babies.

According to the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, the Philippines this week said infection figures were 34 times higher than last year, with 54 deaths recorded in the first three months of 2024.

Pertussis is a common and highly contagious disease caused by the Bacterium Bordetella pertus-

Children are most likely to suffer the most violent symptoms of whooping cough, on the other hand babies don’t usually cough but can instantly cease to breathe occasionally. Teenagers often exhibit more mild symptoms, however weakening coughing fits may cause them to struggle sleeping at night.
