Do you have a neighbor that could be recognized as the Resident of the Month? How about that dog or cat that you see all the time and want it to be recognized also? We are looking for you to be part of your newsletter and we would like to continue these two sections. Please email dscassociation@yahoo.com to nominate your favorite pet. However, if we can’t get nominations we may replace the sections with something else.
FROM YOUR ACTIVITIES
DIRECTOR, Gail Brazell
Spring is here—well, darn close! You can feel it in the air with this beautiful weather, and it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy all that Desertscape has to offer. Just ask our Bocce Ball players— they’re out every Wednesday at 10:00am and Friday at 6:00pm. Even if you don’t play, it’s always fun to watch the friendly competition and cheer on your neighbors.
If indoor activities are more your style, there are plenty of options in the card room, with several different card games to choose from. Be sure to check the activities calendar on the back side of the newsletter so you don’t miss anything. Thursday nights are dedicated to Bingo; show up at 5:30pm, a favorite for many of our residents.
MONTHLY CHUCKLE
Friday mornings at 9:00am, we gather for Coffee and Donuts, along with the latest updates from our Park Manager, Ruben, and a gift card raffle. It’s a great way to catch up with friends and stay informed about what’s happening around the park.
Spring is such a wonderful season here in Phoenix—warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, but not yet too hot. I read somewhere that March is the best month of the year in Phoenix! As we welcome the new season, we’ll also be saying goodbye to many of our winter friends. We wish you safe travels and a fantastic summer, and we hope to see you back at Desertscape again in the fall.
Thank you,
Gail Brazell
Coffee & Donuts meetings are every Friday at 9:00 a.m. These meetings are a social gathering and will have news from the office as needed.
Open to Desertscape residents.
Stop in for a sweet treat and coffee. We look forward to seeing you there!

ST PATRICK’S DAY QUOTES
• “May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.”
• “Wherever you go and whatever you do, may the luck of the Irish be there with you.”
• “A good friend is like a four-leaf clover—hard to find and lucky to have.”
FUN FACTS ABOUT ST PATRICK’S DAY
• St. Patrick wasn’t Irish!
• He was actually born in Britain and brought to Ireland later in life.
• The original color of St. Patrick’s Day was blue.
• Green became popular much later because of Ireland’s nickname, The Emerald Isle.
• Shamrocks have special meaning.
• St. Patrick is said to have used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.
• There are no snakes in Ireland.
• Despite the legend, Ireland never had snakes—thanks to its cold climate and island geography.
• Chicago dyes its river green every year.
• Since 1962, the city has turned its river green to celebrate—using an eco-friendly dye!
• Corned beef and cabbage isn’t Irish.
• It became popular with Irish immigrants in America, not in Ireland itself.
• St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide.
• More than 50 countries join in the festivities each year.
• Leprechauns come from Irish folklore.
• They’re known as mischievous fairy shoemakers who guard pots of gold.
Recipe of the Month
Creamy Steak Pasta Garlic
Tender steak and pasta tossed in creamy garlic parmesan sauce for pure comfort.
Prep duration: 15 min / Cook duration: 25 min / Overall duration: 40 min Ingredients
• Pasta (12 ounces fettuccine or penne pasta)
• Protein (1 pound sirloin or ribeye steak, thinly sliced)
• Seasonings (Salt, to taste, black pepper, to taste, 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional)
• Sauce and Aromatics (1 tablespoon olive oil)
Directions
01 - Boil pasta in a large pot of salted water according to package instructions. Drain well and reserve 1/2 cup of the cooking water.
02 - Season steak slices generously with salt and black pepper. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat olive oil and sear the steak pieces until browned and cooked to desired doneness, about 2–3 minutes per side. Remove steak from skillet and set aside.
03 - Lower heat to medium and add butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until aromatic.
Expert Advice
01
• Quick enough for busy nights yet special enough for guests
• Flexible on cuts of steak and pasta shapes to fit your pantry
• Restaurant flavor without the high price tag
02
• High in protein and calcium which makes it both satisfying and gently energizing
• Pasta water is the secret to a glossy sauce that clings just right
• Freezes well but is best enjoyed fresh for the creamiest texture
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1/2 cup beef broth
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
• Garnish (Fresh parsley, chopped)
• Additional grated parmesan cheese, optional
04 - Deglaze the skillet by pouring in beef broth, scraping any browned bits from the bottom. Simmer for 2 minutes.
05 - Add heavy cream and grated parmesan cheese to the skillet. Stir regularly and simmer for 3–4 minutes until the sauce thickens. Stir in crushed red pepper flakes if desired.
06 - Add cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. If needed, incorporate reserved pasta water to adjust sauce consistency. Return cooked steak to skillet and gently combine.
07 - Serve immediately, topped with chopped fresh parsley and extra grated parmesan if desired
03
• Slicing steak against the grain after cooking helps keep every bite tender
• Letting sauce simmer gently ensures the cream does not break
• Grate your own parmesan straight over the pan for a nutty intense flavor
