Join us on our 38th annual WTC week

he Waimea Town Celebration is Kauai’s largest, longest running and oldest annual festival that provides nonprofit organizations and clubs with fundraising opportunities while promoting community unity and economic development. The 38th WTC begins Feb. 14 and runs through Feb. 21. You’ll find the Westside of Kauai filled with live enter-

tainment, including a Hawaiian rodeo, canoe and stand-up paddle races, softball and 3-on-3 basketball tournament, fun runs and paniolo hat lei contest. There will also be a film festival, story telling, ice cream eating contest, ukulele contest and silent auction. There will also be many cultural exhibits and entertainment on the big stage, as well as food booths, games

and rides for keiki, craft vendors and a beer garden. This promises, as usual, to provide some of the best days on Kauai. Organizers urge the community to come out and take part in this spectacular celebration that symbolizes the aloha spirit. It’s sure you’ll return home with many memories — perhaps enough to last until the 39th WTC.

Waimea Town Celebration Festival Chairman Tom Nizo is looking forward to presenting Brun the award. “I feel that she has done her fair share of promoting Kauai,” Nizo said. “She works for the county to get funding for festivals but she takes it to the next step on how she can really help us.” The largest and oldest of

Kauai’s festivities, the Waimea Town Celebration runs until Feb. 21 and will feature a multitude of events for people of all ages such as a Hawaiian rodeo, a softball tournament and a fun run. The celebration is meant to help nonprofit organizations with fund-raising opportunities. In addition to receiving the title ambassador, every major festival at the weeklong Waimea Town Celebration will present her a gift of appreciation on Feb. 18. “She affects thousands of people because everyone of our events gets to experience the aloha spirit in some sense,” Nizo said.

All games are held at the Waimea Canyon Park Basketball Courts on the corner of Huaka‘i Road and Kaumuali‘i Highway. The cost is $10/player (school division) and $25/player

(adult division). Late registration is $30/player. Games
