The mission of Kauaì Hospice is to ensure the highest quality of life possible for individuals and their families facing a lifethreatening illness; to provide bereavement support to individuals, and to promote an understanding of Hospice and Palliative Care services. Meet The Band

Meet The Band Maoli (meaning “Native” in Hawaiian) started in Maui with Glenn Awong, a 14-year-old with a passion for music, and Kana AkiuCorpuz. In their sophomore year, the aspiring vocalist and bassist began writing original music at the encouragement of their high school teacher. It was also during this time that Glenn started recording demos of his songs. By the time, he reached his senior year, Glenn was ready to share his music with a greater audience. In 2005, Glenn and the band he formed, “No Boundaries”, won a Battle of the Bands competition on the island of Maui. In 2007, Glenn then formed Maoli in 2007 with a new lineup of talented musicians, including bassist, Kana. Maoli took the islands by storm in 2008 with their debut album, “Groovin,” having one hit after the next; this was the groundbreaking

album that first established the group as a premiere Hawaiian Island Reggae recording band. In 2010, Maoli did it again with their 2nd release, “Rock Easy”, featuring another treasure trove of #1 hits. Their 3rd album entitled, “Arise,” took to a national and international audience exploring Maoli’s love for various genres of music. In 2015, Maoli dropped their newest EP entitled “One Eighty”. The EP included Hawaii’s #1 hits “No Way” and “Sun Will Shine” along with others like “Let it go.”

Ho’aikane was founded in 1983 in Kona. The first two releases came in 1986, “Pu’uanahulu and Nolan Hao Kī Hō’alu… On The Back Porch.” In 1987 Ho’aikane went paniolo (Hawaiian Cowboy) releasing their third album entitled “Ano Kua Aina” which contained a classic mix of Hawaiian and old country songs. In 1989, their newest album “A New Beginning” featured several non-Hawaiian hits. Ho’aikāne exploded during the Jawaiian scene and in 1990 released “Island Irie.” “Kanakafari” was released in 1991 with island reggae songs Roots, Rock, Reggae, Gwarn! The group recorded their first live album in 1992 entitled “Ho’aikāne – Live” when the popularity of Island Reggae music became apparent. The Hawaiian reggae scene was in

full swing in 1993. Ho’aikāne released “Bulletproof,” then in 1995 released the “Massive” album. Six years later in 2001 Ho’aikāne released their second live album, “Ho’aikāne – Live: The Last Set.” Finally in 2012, they released a much anticipated album entitled “Sweet Okole.” While the music has changed over the years from Hawaiian, Slack Key, Country, Island Music, Jawaiian, Island Reggae, Reggae, and even Dance Hall one thing for sure, Ho’aikāne music has been, and has continued to hit the Hawaii charts at #1 consistently.

Founded in 1983 by a small group of dedicated and passionate volunteers, Kaua‘i Hospice has developed into a professionally staffed, Medicare and Medicaid certified organization with a supportive cadre of 80 specially trained program volunteers and hundreds of general community volunteers. There is a fundamental belief that hospice is not about how you die, it’s about how you live. Kaua‘i Hospice is the only hospice care provider on the Garden Island. Kaua‘i Hospice is respected, well-known and has a sterling reputation from more than 30 years in our community, and we want to reframe the way we open people’s minds to who we are and what we do. When you select Kaua‘i Hospice, the focus of medical care shifts from searching for a cure to providing expert pain and symptom management. This special kind of care enables you to enjoy the best quality of life possible during this time. The earlier you call, the more we can do to help. Many people believe that hospice care is

unavailable or inappropriate until the last days of a person’s life and that’s simply not true. A great deal can be done many months earlier to improve quality of life.
