Join us for the Westside’s 42nd annual WTC FEBRUARY 16 - 24, 2019 Waimea Town will celebrate its 42nd anniversary in 2019 and our town will be filled with 9 days of events that include hula and Hawaiian music; Kaua‘i cocktails and cuisine; the largest Hawaiian rodeo in all of the islands; a long-distance canoe race; a film festival; softball and 3-on-3 basketball tournaments; a 10.8 mile cyclist road race and a fun run (10K, 5K, 2K); paniolo hat lei, ice cream eating and ‘ukulele contests; and cultural exhibits all culminating in a 2-day
ho‘olaule‘a with continuous LIVE entertainment on a big stage, local food booths, craft vendors, games, rides and a beer garden! It is Kauai’s largest and oldest annual festival on the west side of the island. We celebrate our proud history and tight-knit community with over a week of cultural and recreational events! Ambassador of Aloha and Music Concert This year’s Ambassador of Aloha for 2019 is Patrick “Paddy Boy” Malama, a well known Westside hunter and fisherman and known for his timeless work to map the past of Nualolo Kai, one of Hawai’i’i’s most famous archaeological sites. Uncle Paddy Boy is also generous with his time in preparing Waimea for this annual town celebration. He is truly a valuable member of our community, giving generously of his time, talent and resources so that we can appreciate our past and look forward to a promising future.

T-Shirt Theatre presents: Kipuka” is an anti-bullying project that addresses bullying, cyberbullying, and teen suicide prevention – written and performed by the students (aged 13-18) at T-Shirt Theatre, a performing company based in Farrington High School. Their stories, which are performed live in front of over 1,200 of their peers in a packed Farrington High School auditorium, are drawn from personal life experiences and are 100% original. Their 2017-2018 performance of “Kipuka” takes on a variety of perspectives on bullying like cyber-bullying, self-bullying, being a bystander to bullying, confronting abusive relationships, and even taking the bully’s perspective. Kipuka demonstrates how positive safe spaces and influences like family and community can help counteract the effects of bullying.

This is the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament on the island and benefits the Westside Basketball Club. All games are held at the Waimea Canyon Park Basketball Courts on the corner of Huaka‘i Road and Kaumuali‘i Highway. The cost is $10/player (school division) and $25/ player (adult division). The 42nd annual Captain Cook Caper Run benefits Waimea High School’s JROTC program. Cost is $30/adults and $25/students (17 years and younger). Rules are (1) 3 minutes maximum per song; (2) 1 song per entry; (3) Soloists only, no groups allowed; (4) Judged on presentation, tone, showmanship, difficulty of song and overall performance. Only ‘ukulele talent will be judged, not singing. Age groups: Up to 6th grade; 7th to 9th grade;
