Welcome to Hull Truck Theatre’s Autumn–Winter Season
We’re thrilled to welcome you to a brand-new season packed with creative storytelling, festive magic and unforgettable nights out in a blend of home-produced work made right here, in Hull, plus an eclectic programme of visiting work.
We open our producing season with a high energy co-production with our friends at Derby Theatre: The 39 Steps, directed by comedy master Cal McCrystal of Cirque Du Soliel fame. Four actors hurtle through more than 130 characters in a whirlwind of espionage, theatrical invention and pure comic brilliance. Fast, funny and full of surprises, it’s a spectacular theatrical ride that’s sure to delight.
For Christmas, we’re bringing two brand-new adventures to the stage. Mark Powell’s funny and entertaining adaptation of the enduring family favourite The Wind in the Willows, sees Mole, Rat, Badger and the ever chaotic Toad on a heartwarming journey through friendship, loyalty and belonging. Featuring original music and inventive design and once again, proudly supported by Hull Trains. For younger audiences and their grown ups, Hansel and Gretel offers a playful, modern twist on the classic tale, full of songs, mischief and a gingerbread house that’s almost too tempting!
Looking ahead to 2027, we’re thrilled to join forces with Octagon Theatre Bolton and Derby Theatre for a powerful new production of Romeo & Juliet directed by Iqbal Khan. Shakespeare’s iconic
tragedy is brought to life with urgency, passion and a fresh perspective on love, conflict and the cost of division. This is the perfect follow-up to our recent production of Macbeth, continuing our commitment to bringing you thrilling new approaches to classic stories.
Alongside our produced work, we’re set to host a quality programme of visiting productions and ongoing local festivals. Freedom Festival present the return of Australian Circus company Gravity & Other Myths with 10,000 Hours, a jaw dropping celebration of physical skill and human ambition in an incredible performance by world class acrobats. Private Peaceful brings Michael Morpurgo’s moving story back to the stage in a gripping one person performance, and ThickSkin’s It Walks Around the House at Night promises a chilling, darkly comic ghost story for the brave - just in time for spooky season!
We’re also showcasing a vibrant mix of music, laugh out loud comedy and exciting new contemporary theatre shows, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy as part of a jam-packed season of events.

ACCESS
Look out for these access symbols on the show pages for performance dates and times.
Audio Description is delivered via an infra-red headset and provides information about the visual elements of the show, for those who are blind or visually impaired. You only need a headset if you would benefit from using this facilityplease pre-book one with the Box Office.
Touch Tours are available 90 mins before the audio described show and last approx. 30 mins. Touch Tours allow blind and visually impaired customers the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the set, costumes and props, ahead of the show. Spaces must be booked with the Box Office, 24hrs in advance, or online when buying tickets for the show.
Theatre Captions are similar to television subtitles and convert spoken word into visible text that provides those who are Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing with access to live performances. Captions can also be useful for those whose first language is not English or have difficulty understanding accents.
British Sign Language (BSL) performances enable Deaf BSL users to understand the performance through the signs of an interpreter, who is on or by the stage during the performance.
Relaxed Performances are specifically designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed environment. They include additional lighting, a friendly attitude to noise and movement in the theatre and we can also offer additional space if requested.

Assistance Dogs are welcome in the theatre and performance spaces. If you are going to be accompanied by an assistance dog please contact the Box Office, before you book, so that we can make arrangements to either seat you together during the show or dog-sit for you.
Baby Friendly Performances are designed for customers with babies under the age of 18 months. These shows have a relaxed atmosphere and friendly attitude to noise and movement in the theatre. Step into the woods with Hansel and Gretel for a sugar-coated Christmas adventure!
Hansel and Gretel are twin brother and sister. They’re also best friends... and sometimes worst enemies. One minute they’re singing songs and having fun, the next they’re at war.
On Christmas Day, Dad makes a deal with the twins. If they can avoid falling out for the whole day, then they will earn a special Christmas treat.
Whilst Dad’s in the kitchen rustling up the festive feast, they decide to play some games. First in the garden, then in the field behind their house, and then they go to the place they’ve been warned not to go alone... the woods!
Whilst exploring, the pair stumble upon a funny looking house made of... gingerbread. But who does the house belong to? And why have they never seen it before? Their new woodland pals urge them to return home, but they’re lost... and the house smells so good. Surely one little taste would be OK, wouldn’t it?

Gravity & Other Myths are an Australian Circus Company who last visited Hull in 2022 with their show Backbone at Hull New Theatre. Zoe Rahman presents music from her new album “Hull Suite Live” with her worldclass jazz trio, featuring drummer Gene Calderazzo (Pharoah Sanders, Randy Brecker) and bassist Alec Dankworth (Abdullah Ibrahim, Dave Brubeck). The album centres around music from Zoe’s “Hull Suite”, which was commissioned by Hull Jazz Festival for World Piano Day 2024. Based on themes of voyage, migration and the sea and taking inspiration from two statues in Hull, the music is also deeply connected to Zoe’s own family history.
Zoe’s compositions encompass a wide pallet, with earthy blues influences, soulful melodies and cinematic musical textures that highlight the vibrancy and interaction of this electrifying jazz trio.

Trombonist, composer, bandleader, and a Tomorrow’s Warriors Emerging Artist, ChristStéphane Boizi is already making his mark on the London jazz scene, but his reputation is set to soar with the news that he has signed to Mark Kavuma’s Banger Factory Records label, with his debut LP scheduled for release later in the year.
Boizi’s sound is steeped in the hard bop tradition - carrying influences of the legacy of by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver, and Jackie McLean. With his own compositions he creates his own sonic exploration bringing the music of the Black Church together with that hard bop Jazz tradition.
This performance is part of Tomorrow’s Warriors’ Warriors Rise initiative, which sees the acclaimed jazz talent development organisation support three emerging Warriors’ artists, including Mali, across a seven-date run of UK gigs, providing tour planning and marketing mentoring.
Warriors Rise is a PRS Foundation Talent Development Network Partner initiative supported by PPL.

Out of the Box brings original music to the Jazz Festival, with new commissions from some of Hull’s most exciting artists. Tracing the experience of a lifetime of unexpressed creativity, this commission is a journey led by a self-identifying shadow artist who has always wanted to, but has never formally made or performed original music before, collaborating with two experienced musicians challenged to create through a new lens. We offer two theatre spaces (capacity 135 and 426), a rehearsal room, Interact Suite, foyer areas and a meeting room, which can accommodate between 4 – 426 delegates.
Situated on Ferensway we are just a two minute walk from Paragon Rail and Bus Interchange, within walking distance of several hotels and just next door to St Stephens multi-storey car park.
We offer packages to suit all needs and our in-house team can provide technical support, catering and a Box Office ticketing service. We can also create packages that include tickets to see one of our fantastic productions or a backstage theatre tour.
