Page 1

WHEREAS, Black History Month is an important opportunity for the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars to recognize and celebrate the rich history, contributions, and cultural impact of Black Americans, particularly those stories that have historically been overlooked;

WHEREAS, the essence of Black History Month resonates deeply with our military values of service, sacrifice, and the unyielding pursuit of equality. Black Americans have stood proudly and served valiantly in every conflict our nation has faced, often while confronting inequities and injustice at home;

WHEREAS, the legacy of distinguished groups such as the Buffalo Soldiers, the Tuskegee Airmen, the 761st Tank Battalion, and many other courageous individuals highlights extraordinary bravery, resilience, and commitment to duty qualities that define our shared military brotherhood;

WHEREAS, our military community exemplifies that a shared mission transcends differences, fostering an unbreakable bond among service members of all races, backgrounds, and generations. Every veteran's service guarantees honor, gratitude, and remembrance for their sacrifices;

WHEREAS, Black veterans have not only defended our freedoms on the battlefield but have also emerged as leaders in advancing civil rights, promoting education, and building stronger communities, thereby reinforcing the very ideals they fought to uphold;

WHEREAS, by recognizing and honoring the stories of Black service members, we ensure that their acts of courage and commitment are not forgotten and that the complete tapestry of American military history is preserved for future generations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DAVID WALDEN, Commander of the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2026 as Black History Month within our community. I call upon all commanders, officers, and members to engage in meaningful programs, ceremonies, and activities that reflect the spirit of this observance.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand this thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, in a spirit of remembrance, unity, and gratitude for the impact of Black Americans in our military and broader society. Let us all reflect upon the values of courage, unity, equality, and service, and commit ourselves to honoring every veteran while continuing the pursuit of justice and equality for all.
