Nothing says spring more than looking at a few pages of colorful Texas Longhorn calves! The cover is sporting this year’s winner and you can find all the participants in this month’s edition. Thank to all who participated. Choosing from the vast array of coat patterns and hues is a challenge, as all of the are worthy of the title “most colorful”. That is one of the favorite things about the Longhorn breed, especially if your used to solid colored cattle.
Another thing ushering in spring is an abundance of Texas Longhorn sales, futurities and shows all across the nation. There seems to be events somewhere every weekend and you can find a list each month on the last page of the magazine. Get out and meet some great folks and maybe add some new cattle to your herd.
The year kicked off with Longhorn Weekend and saw and new board members seated and a new Chairman, Joe Sedlacek, elected. You can find a word from Joe on pg. 10 and see all board members and their Regions on pg. 2. These volunteer elected representatives are there to help members with questions and concerns regarding the cattle and the association, so don’t hesitate to reach out to them.
You can find all the coverage of Longhorn Weekend inside including sale results, show results, TLBAA Special Award winners and TLBAA Hall of Fame inductees. If you weren’t able to attend this year, we hope to see you there in 2027!
We’re coming up on the May Brood Cow edition. There is currently a lot of attention on the bulls in the industry, but where would those bulls be without great females to breed, as well as the producers in their pedigree? We look forward to be cow-centered in the issue and hope you’ll highlight some of the great female producers in your own program. I’m looking forward to highlighting those production powerhouses.
Please take a moment to to go online and participate in our reader survey. There are questions pertaining to how you engage with your monthly magazine and your answers will help our board make decisions that best benefit our members and the association in the future. You can find a QR code to take you to the online survey on page 13, or if you prefer to fill out the paper form there are instructions on where to email it or mail it in. Please send us your answers by April 15, 2026.
Blessings,

Being selected as your newest Chairman was both a surprise and an honor. I am grateful for the trust that has been placed in me, and I do not take this responsibility lightly.
For those of you who may not know me, I have been involved in the Longhorn breed since I was 15 years old. I am a fourth-generation cattle rancher, though each generation of our family raised a different breed. My father was a registered Angus rancher, his father raised Shorthorns, and before that were Horned Herefords.
Some of my earliest memories include making my parents pull over alongside the road when I spotted Longhorns on a family trip or watching old western movies just hoping to catch a glimpse of a trail drive. There was something about the breed that captured me at a young age and never let go.
Thirty years later, that same love for the breed is what drives me to do the very best I can in this role as Chairman. I want nothing but the best for this association, this breed, and the people who care about it as deeply as I do.
My wife and I, along with our five children, have built a ranch in northern Kansas, just a stone’s throw from Nebraska. Lazy J Longhorns is something we are extremely proud of, not just because of the cattle, but because it represents family, hard work, and a shared vision.
I believe strongly that our industry must continue to invest in our youth. While I had a cattle background when I entered the Longhorn breed, I was starting over. There were individuals who took the time to guide and encourage me, and I will never forget their influence. Working alongside the TLBT, I hope we can continue building programs that help young men and women find success and opportunity within this industry.
Since stepping into this role, I have been working closely with the office to better understand the responsibilities of Chairman and to look for ways we can operate more efficiently and effectively. When we are unified in purpose and focused on the same goals, we position ourselves for real success.
I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the year at events across the country. I plan to attend the World Show this year, and I am especially eager to learn more about those involved, particularly around the Senior Sale as we send our youth forward into the next chapter of their lives.
Thank you for your support and for the opportunity to serve.

Once again, the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America was a big presence at the opening weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Between the board and membership meetings, the Eddie Wood Cowtown Classic Sale, the various year end awards presented, and the TLBAA World Expo Qualifying Shows, there was something for every Longhorn enthusiast. Although it was the typical chilly January Stock Show weather, there was no precipitation to dampen those that attended or participated.
Friday had show and sale animals moving into the barns as the meetings began in the Round Up Inn. A new check in process for the show cattle proved to be a faster and more efficient option this year. The Affiliate meeting started the day of meetings, followed by the TLBAA Board meeting which included newly elected and re-elected seats in Division B, as well as election of Executive Committee members and Chairman. The TLBAA General Membership meeting followed, giving the members the opportunity to interact with the Board and have their voices heard.
The TLBAA Special Awards Presentation followed on Friday evening and gave everyone the opportu-
nity to gather with old and new friends. Presentations were made for the Rodger Damrow Colorful Calf and the member nominated and voted on TLBAA Special Award winners. Two new breeders were inducted into the TLBAA Hall of Fame. The moment was wrapped up with a memorial tribute to those who passed in 2025. Turn to pg. 18-22 to see all the award winners and inductees.
The Eddie Wood Cowtown Classic Sale on Saturday was led off by a buckle presentation to the two newest inductees to the Hall of Fame. The sale began with 3 donation lots, which always brings out the best in our bidders. The 42 regular sale lots yielded seven cash cows, with the high seller being $46,000 and an average of $7,590 for the sale. Find more sale information on pg. 24
Following the sale, the TLBT and World Show Committee meetings were held near the Watt Arena with plans being presented for this year’s World Expo held for the second time in Abilene’s Taylor County Expo Center. You can find more World Show updates in this issue. Everyone then had time for a nice dinner and to rest up before the showing started. On Sunday, the

TLBT Youth Show was held in the Watt Arena in front of a packed house with over 140 entries. You can see the results starting on pg. 26.
On Monday, a full day of Open Show animals in the historic Will Roger’s Coliseum began. Between the Open Haltered Show, the Non-Haltered Show and Trophy Steers, over 160 animals walked through the show ring. As Monday was a holiday, the show drew curious spectators as well as those family members and friends that came to cheer on their favorites.
As always, there were many of the curious and interested Stock Show visitors that walked through the barn area of the Will Rogers Complex wanting a chance to see the Longhorns up close. It is an awesome opportunity for breeders to interact with the public and educate them about the Longhorn, potentially sparking an interest in the breed by new people.
If you have not ever experienced Texas Longhorn Weekend, it is a great opportunity to meet with fellow breeders, participate in Association business, and see some great Longhorns show, and maybe even take home a new herd member! This annual event always kicks off the opening weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. We hope to see you there in 2027!

The Elmer Parker Lifetime Award honors those members, who have been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Longhorn breed, qualities that Parker was known for.

netics, fostered the community, and promoted the industry for nearly four decades. Her legacy, forged with her late husband Ben Gravett and continued with fierce determination, reflects the spirit of the award’s namesake through tireless preservation and promotion. Starting G&G Longhorns in 1988, Ann has been at the forefront of genetic advancement, stewarding a program that has owned some of the most influential cattle in the industry. The list of these legendary animals – including BL Monika, Awesome Strawberry, Wiregrass Magolia and Sittin Bull, whom was syndicated for $1,000,000 – is a testament to G&G Longhorns pursuit of excellence and profound impact on the breed’s bloodlines.
Ann’s contributions extend far beyond her own herd through her unparalleled work as an event organizer. For many years, the Gravett’s hosted a sale near their home in Virginia know as the Gravett-Babington Sale with the late Paul Babington, starting in 1992 to offer their cattle and also to provide a place for their customers to market through consignments. Since then, the sale has become the successful Cherry Blossom Sale hosted by the TLMA, then the TLCA, and now by the Longhorn Legacy Group. The Gravetts are the founders of the successful Millennium futurity which began in Virginia in 2000 and expanded the breed’s exposure in the Eastern U.S., bringing breeders now nationwide to compete and increase value to our industry’s young females. Her expertise and dedication have also been the force behind the highly successful Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale and the Cherry Blossom Sale, ensuring premium platforms for breeders to market their cattle. Ann is a constant and reliable presence at nearly every Longhorn event coast-to-coast, well-respected figure and a true industry pillar. Her selfless support for the
Longhorn community is evident through her role as a major sponsor of numerous futurities, sales and events. This consistent financial and logistical support is vital for the health and growth of the industry. Her and Ben’s generous donations to the TLBAA Museum further underscore their commitment to preserving the breed’s heritage for future generations. Since Ben’s passing in 2014, Ann has courageously continued to manage G&G Longhorns alone, a testament to her strength and unwavering passion. Her lifelong impact –as a breeder, mentor, event organizer, and promoter – makes Ann Gravett a profoundly deserving recipient of the Elmer Parker Lifetime Achievement Award. H
The Dave Evans Breeder of the Year Award is given to individuals who have dedicated themselves to the betterment of Texas Longhorn cattle through their breeding program. terry & tAmmy KinG
I have been in the Longhorn business for about 40 years. I met Terry & Tammy King approximately 30 years ago.

has made steady improvement in the quality of their cattle. Their cattle are colorful with good conformation and horn. They understand the value of genetics and are constantly upgrading the quality of their cattle by using some of the best bulls in the industry. They are the only breeder to have three of their homegrown heifers currently ranked in the top eight of the 2025 National Longhorn Futurity Race. This speaks volumes for their breeding program. They have worked hard to promote the Longhorn industry in the Southeast, always eager and willing to help new and old breeders alike in any way they can. Terry has also served on the TLBAA and SETLA Board of Directors in the past. I feel they are excellent candidates for the 2025 Dave Evans Breeder of the Year. H

This award honors individuals who have worked selflessly for the Longhorn breed and breeders alike, without recognition.

Since 2005, Johnny Hicks of Hicks Texas Longhorns has been a steadfast advocate for the Texas Longhorn breed and its community of breeders. Beginning his journey with just two Longhorns, Johnny has demonstrated unwavering dedication to advancing the breed, strengthening associations, and supporting fellow breeders with humility and integrity. Over the past two decades, Johnny has contributed significantly through leadership and service. He served on the Board of Directors for six years, including two years as Chairman of the Board, and held the position of Horn Showcase Chair for two years. His commitment to excellence was recognized with the Milestone Needs Improvement Award, personally presented by Bob Loomis. For more than a decade, Johnny has faithfully served as President of the Great Lakes Texas Longhorns Association, ensuring the success of regional programs and opportunities for breeders. Throughout his journey, Johnny has sought and valued the guidance of respected leaders such as Tim Smith, Bob Loomis, Mike McLeod, and Dick Lowe, carrying forward their legacy of stewardship. At the same time, his wife, Missy, has been an invaluable partner in every endeavor – always ready to lend her support, share her time, and help others. Together, they have built a reputation for generosity and selflessness, never hesitating to step in when fellow breeders or associations needed assistance. Johnny’s contributions reflect a rare combination of leadership, service, and humility. Alongside Missy, he has worked tirelessly for the Texas Longhorn breed and for the community of breeders – often without seeking recognition. These qualities embody the very spirit of Jack Phillips Award, making Johnny Hicks a most deserving candidate for this distinguished honor, with Missy’s unwavering support and dedication equally worthy of recognition. H
This special recognition is awarded to those who have been an active member of the TLBAA for less than five years and through involvement and sustained enthusiasm have made a positive impact on their peers and on the Longhorn breed.

It is with great pleasure that I nominate Travis Johnson of LTJ Longhorns for the Mel Raley Rising Star Award. In his short time as a breeder, Travis has demonstrated the kind of enthusiastic involvement and sustained effort that makes a lasting positive impact on our community, truly embodying the spirit of Mel Raley. Travis’ commitment to the Texas Longhorn breed is remarkable. Establishing LTJ Longhorns in 2022, he has already assembled an incredible herd of top-quality cattle, focusing on elite genetics, conformation and impressive horns. While many new breeders start small and slowly scale up, Travis has invested significant time and resources to develop a high caliber program from the very beginning. His deliberate and discerning approach to acquiring foundational genetics, including purchases from respected breeders like Terry King, Jimmy Jones, and Hudson Longhorns, show a deep dedication to excellence. He thoughtfully diversified his bloodlines to build a herd he is proud of, a testament to his long-term vision. Beyond his rapid success with his own herd, Travis has become a dedicated and visible member of the Longhorn community. He is an active participant in sales and futurities, demonstrating his engagement with the industry and his willingness to showcase his breeding program. Furthermore, he generously supports the breed and fellow enthusiasts through his sponsorship of events. Travis’ positive impact is not limited to his own ranch. He is known as a great and hardworking individual who is always willing to lend a hand and share his passion. His gratitude for the mentorship he has received, and his openness to share his own experiences, reflects the same generous spirit that defined Mel Raley. In just a few years, Travis has proven himself to be a rising star. His tireless work ethic, passion for the breed, and active participation in the TLBAA community have made a powerful and positive impression. I believe he is a truly deserving candidate for this prestigious award. H

mittee from 2019 to 2023, commissioning a new beef study for producers.
Her achievements earned numerous honors, including Breeder of the Year (1996) and the TLBAA President’s Award (1997). Over the years, she exhibited many champions at regional and national shows - including winners at both the first World Show and the first Horn Showcase.
The pinnacle came in 2000, when she received the Elmer Parker Lifetime Achievement Award, the Texas Longhorn industry’s highest honor.
Charlene Semkin’s journey with Texas Longhorns began in 1971, when a city-raised single mother with no ranching background saw the breed for the first time at the Dickinson Ranch in Colorado. Inspired, she bought her first heifer, Alpha, in 1975 for $450 - keeping her in the front yard of her suburban home in Lewisville, Texas.

Over her career, Charlene personally sold more than 1,500+ buyers their first Longhorn - always including a promotional membership with the TLBAA. Among those buyers were future Chairmen of the Board Richard Carlson and Brent Bolen.

Turn To Page 24 for the of Fame Presentation
From those modest beginnings, Charlene built a career spanning more than five decades. She apprenticed with Dickinson Longhorns, partnered with industry leaders like Red McCombs, and invested in the syndications of legendary sires Classic and Texas Ranger. By the 1980s, she had become a respected breeder, sending out a newsletter that reached 3,000 ranchers, displaying live cattle & handing out literature at the Arizona National Livestock Show, and helping launch the Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow (TLBT) youth program.
Her role extended internationally, with exports of cattle and genetics to Australia, New Zealand, Venezuela, and Nigeria, where she personally advised on breeding programs and promoted the breed at major livestock events.
Today, Charlene remains deeply engaged in the breed she loves. She continues to sell both to established breeders and to newcomers, making sure every first-time buyer receives a promotional TLBAA membership. She still enjoys attending shows, sales, and TLBAA events, and she keeps her favorite Longhorns close to home in Austin, Texas. In addition, she actively assists McGuire Land & Cattle with marketing and promotion, where her experience and gift for connecting people continue to strengthen the Longhorn community.
Beyond her successful Longhorn career, Charlene has lived a life of service and adventure. She has skippered and crewed boats for Coastland Missions across the world - in Thailand, Fiji, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

Charlene’s leadership also shaped the industry at home. She served as Secretary of the Mountains and Plains Longhorn Association, worked on the Al and Embryo Transfer Committees, and chaired the Beef Com-
From keeping a single heifer in her front yard to shaping the global growth of the Texas Longhorn breed - and from sponsoring children in Uganda to sailing oceans in service of othersCharlene Semkin stands as a pioneer, promoter, and mentor whose legacy will endure for generations.

It has been said that nobody has had more national influence on behalf of the Texas Longhorn breed than Mr. John T. Baker. A Texas Longhorn owner, breeder, and enthusiast since the mid 1970’s, Mr. Baker has held every position possible within the TLBAA, and constantly been an advocate pursuing new breeders. His list of accomplishments in the Texas Longhorn industry include:
• TLBAA President 1988-1990
• Many years as TLBAA Board Member
• Creation of TLBAA’s Texas Longhorn Trails Magazine while President
• Assisted in creation of Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow
• Instrumental in the Breed Advisor Committeea council of beef industry professionals and academics that provided education and guidance to the association and new breeders
• Top 3 (by volume) breeder and exhibitor of World Champion Texas Longhorns in the 1990 and 2000’s
• Many time show and event chairperson
• Operator, alongside his wife Betty, of Sunrise Showmanship Camp for 25 years - a showman-
ship, halter breaking, and leadership camp for youth within the Texas Longhorn breed
• Esteemed judge - judging affiliate, fairs, and national stock shows across the country
• Owner and breeder of the 3 most current University of Texas Bevo mascots
Mr. Baker’s knowledge, integrity, vision, and approach to the Texas Longhorn breed may be matched, but are unsurpassed in the Texas Longhorn world. The two most important pieces of evidence of this are the Sunrise Showmanship Camp and his involvement with University of Texas mascot Bevo.

The Sunrise Showmanship Camp sold out all available spots each year, and was the place parents knew their children would learn more than animal husbandry, but true life lessons. With Texas Longhorn calves as the vessel, the Bakers taught youth each summer about responsibility, honor, courage to stand up when scared, public speaking, team work, and respect.

A true ambassador for the Texas Longhorn breed, Mr. Baker developed connections that put him in the right place to make a monumental impact via Bevo. Mr. Baker has not only bred and supplied the 3 most recent Bevo mascots, he trains the Silver Spur handlers, assists in the entire Bevo presentation, spreads the benefits of the Texas Longhorn breed to all students and alumni who will listen, and makes sure the Texas Longhorn breed is alwasy shown in a positive light.

John T. Baker has done much for the breed over the last 50 years, from the grass roots breeder level to youth and new breeder development and on to national magazine creation and on to possibly the most recognizable collegiate mascot in the country.

Howdy everyone! This month is an exciting one with one big cattle stage: Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo! Texas Longhorns will move in and show on March 21st-22nd. Even though it’s a quick one, I always enjoy the love the breed recieves from this show. It’s a great way to show the public that comes from all around the world for this event how influential longhorn cattle are.

In terms of this issue of the Trails Magazine, the TLBT is excited to present all of our happenings from Texas Longhorn Weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. Longhorn Weekend was on January 16th-20th, and it sure was a fun time (with cooperative weather this year thankfully). On the sixteenth, our committee leads as well as our vice president and I presented our status with the general TLBAA membership. We gave updates on financials, communications, and our new TLBT handbook policy updates for this year. It was a treat to visit with the members and welcome our new TLBAA Chairman, Joe Sedlacek, who is the first elected chairman that was a TLBT member! On the seventeenth, we had the honor of showing o our Eddie Wood Cowtown Classic Sale lot, ECR Maxima donated by the El Coyote Ranch! The TLBT board would like to send another heartfelt thank you to Felix and Della Serna, as we are extremely grateful for their support. The sale went extremely well, with our donation heifer being bought by Ben Herman! We are blessed to also have add-on donors on the sale lot from Douglas & Susie Winters (Trail of Faith Ranch), and Suzanne Torkildsen! The leadership hopes that everyone knows these donations never go unnoticed. Following the sale was our FWSSR formal TLBT meeting! The board updated the youth on new policies and allowed vote, and all motions passed. The advisors put together a senior cord ceremony for our graduating class (including me and multiple board members, yay!). Lastly, the membership got to vote on their favorite junior national banquet prizes and prize shop items. I’m super proud of everything that the TLBT has worked together on and accomplished so far. On the eighteenth and nineteenth, was the youth and open Texas Longhorn show! The final day was a nice opportunity to relax and talk with fellow members before load out later on. Once again, our board sends out a huge thank you to everyone who makes these events happen, and all who support the Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow!

Thank you to Ben Herman and Suzanne Torkildsen for supporting the TLBT at the Eddie Wood cowtown classic sale.

Senior
How long have you been showing?
- This is my fourth and final year showing, I was introduced to this amazing breed my freshman year and since then I have immersed my self in the community and strived to be the best showman I could be.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
- I am most looking forward to this years Texas Longhorn Junior Nationals and in particular our junior board meeting. While it will be a bitter sweet ending I can’t wait to see the group of kids who is gonna pick up after us and continue to push this organization into a brighter future.
Who has been your favorite longhorn to show?
- My favorite Longhorn to show is my senior sale project from this year, HV American Honey. She in my opinion is the epitome of my entire show career. She is truly a blessing and I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me through my journey with her.
What are your plans after high school?
- My current plans after high school are not fully confirmed, however I am not necessarily looking for the traditional path in furthering my education. I am currently looking into studying and actual hands on learning in a foreign country to increase not only my knowledge in the cattle industry but to experience other cultures.

Respectfully titled after longtime Nebraska Texas Longhorn Association President, Rodger Damrow, who was very fond of colorful calves, this year’s contest drew 45 entries. Roger’s wife Bonnie was honored to judge the entries and her pick for overall winner can be seen on this month’s cover.
In the Texas Longhorn industry there are events that look at two out of three aspects of the breed, conformation and horn, but never has there been an event that features the uniqueness of colors so evident in the breed.
The top four finalists are showcased first, followed by all the competitors (alpha by owner) for this title celebrating the distinctly colorful Texas Longhorn.
Any Texas Longhorn calf born to two TLBAA registered Texas Longhorns was eligible (some were too young to be branded and registered in time for the contest) and each entry cost $20. A great way to show off your colorful offspring.
We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and hope everyone will enjoy the festive displays of color on the following pages.

Make it easy for people searching for Longhorn Breeders in their area to find you! The association website, www.tlbaa.org, has a page “Breeders Near You” under the “Member Services” tab.
A link to the last printed membership directory is available to download for free.
If you wish to be listed on that page under your state and have your ranch pinpointed on the Google Map featured at the top, scan the QR code for the online form or contact myra@tlbaa.org for more information. The cost to be listed for one year is $120.

The 2026 TLBAA Horn Showcase will be held at the Canadian County Expo Center in El Reno, Oklahoma, for the fourth straight year! The City of El Reno and Canadian County o cials state the Horn Showcase is one of their favorite events of the year.

Be sure and pick out one of your best cows to consign in the Horn Showcase Select Sale. The consignment deadline is June 30. The form is found in this issue or you may enter on-line through the TLBAA website. Last year’s sale had an average of $6,400 with the high seller bringing $36,000.
Bull Alley remains one of the most popular events for people to participate and attend. If you are a bull owner, this is your chance to get him out in front of the breeders to show him o and o er semen at a special show price. Last year’s Bull Alley semen sales were over $85,000 with over 375 straws changing hands. To enter this year’s Bull Alley, make sure your bull is A.I. certified, or you need to start that process NOW! The deadline of June 30 ensures your bull will be part of the special foldout section in the September Trails

Measurement and Futurity entries will be due by September 15. Watch for entry information in later issues of Trails, on the TLBAA website and part of weekly E-Trails. If you have interest in hosting a satellite, be sure and contact the o ce. Satellite measurements will take place on September 26 & 27.

There are sponsorship opportunities to line up with everyone’s advertising budget – whether you have a bull to promote in Bull Alley; your overall ranch and breeding program with overall event sponsor packages; or your chance to support the Futurity with class sponsorships. Look over the packages in this issue and let the o ce know.
As we have more to share with you about Horn Showcase, watch for e-blasts and other information shared on the TLBAA website and Facebook pages. But, be sure and put it on your calendar for October 1 – 3, 2026!

Congratulations to Aaron & Micah Landes, Landes Farms, of Jamesport, MO for adding a Dam of Excellence and two Dams of Distinction to the Dam of Merit Roll of Honor.
Sunny’s Dream Girl 372 is the newest Dam of Excellence, while GLR Tsunami’s Diamond and HR Little Reb are new Dams of Distinction.
The Dam of Merit Program has been available for TLBAA members for many years as a tool to recognize those Texas Longhorn females that stand out in the area of production among Texas Longhorn breeders. Often overlooked as an effective marketing tool, this list is an official record of the positive reproductive record of Longhorn females.
How can it benefit in your program? It shows your dedication to building a herd on a foundation of solid, reproducible genetics. No one can afford females that do not produce offspring regularly and this record shows off those dependable genetics in your herd.
The list also promotes the cost effectiveness of the Texas Longhorn breed. Dependably producing a calf every year is a trait every breed hopes for in a female. Such evidence of productivity can sway other cattle owners to consider bringing Longhorns into a crossbred program or starting a secondary herd of Longhorns. You may even turn them into 100%
Longhorn owners!
What’s the cost to you to get your female on the list? Only $25 plus a little time investment. You will need to make sure that as your females calve, you have updated their progeny records in H.O.R.N.S.
If you have a female that qualifies, simply call the TLBAA office and speak to registrar Rick Fritsche, or drop him an email at rick@tlbaa.org and he will provide you with the necessary form to fill out to submit your dam for verification. Rick will also help with any questions you may have about “calf at side” information in H.O.R.N.S.
Once the progeny have been verified, your dam will be added to the list which appears in Trails Magazine, posts under “Awards” on www.tlbaa.org, and you will receive a Dam of Merit certificate for your records.
This is an affordable and easy benefit for members to promote a very important positive trait of Texas Longhorns that make owning them that much more satisfying.
**NOTE: This is not a record TLBAA tracks for you. It is up to you, as a owner/breeder, to notify us when your cow has achieved this goal. We look forward to your participation.

Dam must have had 10 consecutive calves, with the first being before her third birthday

SHAWN TOBIN PRESIDENT GPTLA.INFO@GMAIL.COM

Plans are underway for our 9th annual GPTLA World Qualifying Shows, which will be held August 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2026, at the Fall River Fairground in Edgemont, South Dakota. We will include a TLBT show, TLBT points only show, Open show with both haltered and non-haltered classes, Trophy Steer show, and new this year, a Mini show. You can find the event schedule under the events tab at the website, www.gptla.com. Each year we try to make this a bigger and better event, so check back often for additions to the event. Motels are a short distance from the venue, and RV/camping sites are available, so make your plans to attend. There will be more information on this event as it becomes available. Any questions about this event can be directed to the show chairman, Shawn Tobin @ 605-545-2897.
Check out our website at www.gptla.com. There you can find information on our upcoming events and meetings, view photos from our past shows, view stock for sale from some of our participating members with their contact information listed and even become a member of our growing organization.
Speaking of membership, we have multiple membership choices to choose from. Our lifetime membership is $350.00, and our annual membership is $35.00. Both are options for individuals or entities that are Texas Longhorn producers. There is a junior annual membership for $10.00 geared to individuals up to 18 years of age. We also o er an associate annual membership for $25.00 for individuals or entities that are not Texas Longhorn producers but support the breed and the organization.
The Great Plains Texas Longhorn Association recently finished our election for board of directors, as well as positions on the board. Our new board of directors include Lisa Sanders (at-large), Christopher Nix (treasurer), Marlin Krump (secretary), Gordon Howie (vice president), and Shawn Tobin (president).
Whether you are a brand new member or have been in the association for years, everyone has opportunities to participate with Trails Magazine!
New Breeders - If you have been a member for less than four years you can do a free “Meet Our Members” profile to introduce yourself to our membership. If interested, simply email myra@tlbaa.org for the questions.
All Members - Everyone is welcome to submit photos for consideration for editorial use, Just for Grins or possibly even a cover shot when needed. We give credit to photographer and ranch name if applicable. The photos submitted are archived and may be
used at any time after submission.
Another area to feature news about your e orts to expose the world to Longhorns is “News on the Trail”. If you are featured in the media or host group of visitors to your ranch or display your Longhorns in public at an event - send us a few pictures and a write up and we’ll share it with our readers. It’s great to spark ideas for others on how they can spread the word about Longhorns as well as getting exposure for your breeding program.
Experienced Breeders - If there is a topic you’d like to see covered in Trails, and you would like to contribute by being interviewed or by writing an article yourself, just reach out to myra@ tlbaa.org and let’s discuss it. We are always open to contributions from those who have “Been there and done that”.

We encourage input from our members. However, due to other scheduled editorial content and previously submitted photos and editorial requests, submissions may not be published until future issues.
For any questions or comments on content, email myra@ tlbaa.org.
We’re happy to welcome the following new members to our association. These promotional, active & lifetime members joined January 1, 2026 through January 31, 2026 If you live near one of these new breeders, be sure to reach out introduce yourself!
