TCAP was established in 2002 to provide an affordable way to spay and neuter pets Since that time, TCAP has opened eight clinics. We’ve also added a variety of services including low-cost vaccines, microchipping, heart worm testing and prevention, and dental cleanings. TCAP’s prices are, on average, up to 87% less than what traditional veterinary clinics charge.
TCAP contracts licensed veterinarians who have extensive surgical experience and are well-versed in preventative animal care We also employ experienced and caring veterinary technicians who work alongside and support our veterinary team during their surgery sessions Our compassionate employees and our amazing shelter and rescue partners throughout North Texas help us in the fight against euthanasia in our area shelters.

Every year, countless pets in the United States suffer from flea and tick infestations, which can lead to serious health issues ranging from skin irritation and allergies to life-threatening diseases like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever June is National Flea & Tick Prevention Month, a timely reminder for pet owners to take action and protect their furry family members as the warm summer weather brings a surge in parasite activity.
Fleas and ticks aren’t just a nuisance; they can transmit harmful bacteria and parasites to both pets and people. With hotter temperatures, these pests are now thriving in more regions and for longer periods each year, making year-round prevention more important than ever Even indoor pets are at risk, as fleas and ticks can hitch a ride inside on shoes, clothing, or other animals
Prevention is simple and effective From monthly topical treatments and oral medications to collars and sprays, there are a variety of options to fit every pet’s needs and lifestyle. Regularly checking your pet for fleas and ticks, especially after outdoor adventures, adds an extra layer of protection.
This June, prioritize your pet’s health by starting or updating their flea and tick prevention plan. Talk to your veterinarian about the best products for your pet, and remember: a little prevention now can save your pet from discomfort and serious illness down the road.
At TCAP, we ’ re committed to keeping North Texas pets healthy and happy by offering affordable flea and tick prevention products, both in-clinic and on our online fulfillment center Let’s work together to give every pet a safer, itch-free summer!

Fleas and ticks love Texas weather! At TCAP, we see many animals in desperate need of flea and tick prevention. Like most preventable problems, knowledge is the best defense. If you know what to look for and how to take proper preventative steps, you and your pet can live a happy, itch-free life!

Animals infested with ticks and fleas easily transfer their fleas or ticks to any pets that come near them (fleas can jump vertically up to 7 inches and horizontally up to 13 inches) Fleas and ticks often “hitchhike” into homes on other animals, on human clothing and shoes, and on infested bedding, furniture, and rugs Fleas and ticks also live outdoors and can easily be transferred from yard to yard North Texas provides a perfect environment for fleas and ticks because these troublesome pests prefer warm and humid environments Though flea and tick activity slows during our cold winter months, it is still wise to keep your pet on preventative medication because fleas or ticks that have already found their way into your home are still a threat to you and to your pet
If left untreated, fleas and ticks can amount to more than just a minor irritation for your pet Fleas can carry tapeworm larvae If a pet swallows an infected flea, which is common while scratching or grooming, then a tapeworm can begin growing inside your pet’s intestines Tapeworms appear as flat white grains of rice in your pet’s stool They can be easily treated at any of TCAP’s vaccine locations, but they are often a sign that your pet has fleas or that there are fleas in your pet’s environment Untreated fleas can also lead to anemia (a low healthy red blood cell count) and skin problems caused by consistent biting and scratching
Ticks can carry diseases, the most common of which is Lyme disease (a bacterial disease that causes depression, swollen lymph nodes, loss of appetite, and fever) It is a good policy to regularly check your pet for ticks during warm or hot times of the year to be certain your pet is tick free Untreated ticks can also cause blood loss, skin irritation, and anemia
Treating fleas and ticks often begins with vacuuming or steaming your pet’s environment At the same time, you should also treat your yard, wash your pet’s bedding, thoroughly vacuum your carpets, and steam your curtains It is also essential to keep your pet on an effective preventative for both fleas and ticks TCAP recommends Activyl for flea and tick prevention on your pets Activyl is a topical medication applied on the back of your pet’s neck that will kill fleas and ticks in all stages of life It is available in each of TCAP’s clinics and on TCAP’s online store ($15 for a single 1month dose or $80 for 6 doses):

Curious about how TCAP performed last month? See for yourself the impact that TCAP made in May alone!

TCAP’s mission to end animal overpopulation & reduce euthanasia rates in North Texas Shelters reflects in our monthly impact.

Brittany Berrios has always wanted a career that gives back. “It’s always been important to me to have a job that allows me to directly help my community. I believe we get back what we give to the universe. Plus, puppies and kittens, need I say more?” she says.
At home, Brittany is outnumbered by her three cats: Jonas, a gentle 18-pound snowshoe who loves to bite toes; Dio, a goofy orange cat with “ one functioning brain cell” who starts but never finishes fights; and Cranberry, a queenly tabby who only allows Brittany or her husband to play with her. “Her sweetness toward us feels that much more special,” Brittany shares.
Brittany’s favorite part of working at TCAP is knowing she’s making a difference. “Even if we have a really hard day, it’s easier to handle knowing it wasn’t for nothing.” Her experience living in a town without affordable animal care made her appreciate TCAP’s impact: “It was heartbreaking to see so many stray animals. I

“
Outside of work, Brittany enjoys gardening, geocaching with her kids, and playing video games especially the Fallout series. Family outings often include trips to the library, zoo, or, as her son calls Petco, “the discount zoo. ”
One of her most memorable moments at TCAP was meeting her cat, Cranberry, who reminded her of a beloved pet she’d lost. “Cranberry hated me and tried to bite me several times at first, bu such a sweet girl now. ”
