The new signs will not only act as a welcome to visitors to the town but have also been designed with interchangeable panels that will be used to promote local events, such as the Medieval Festival and the Food and Drink Festival. Councillor Bird, lead member for economic development and promotion, said: “These signs will provide a striking entry into Tewkesbury, giving a great sense of arrival, and will really draw attention to what the town has to offer. “These stunning designs promote the charm of Tewkesbury and enhance its attraction to visitors.” The four signs, which will be located on Gloucester Road, Ashchurch Road, Bredon Road and Mythe Road, are part of a project to promote the ‘open for

Peter Carey, who has twice won the Booker prize for books based in Australia, most famously for "The True History of the Kelly Gang", has returned to his homeland to recount his latest story, and he certainly seems very at ease when he bases his fiction there. The background to this story is the 1950s and the Redex Reliability Trial, an endurance race of some 10,000 miles circling Australia. Around the event, which is not so much a "race" as a "time trial", as sections have to be completed within a specific time, Carey tells the story of three principle characters. Mr & Mrs Bobs are mad about cars. Husband "Titch" and equally diminutive wife Irene want to run their own car dealership and eventually secure the Holden franchise, who support the Bobs entry into the Redex. They move into a new home with garage to set up their own business, and we learn of their struggles to achieve this. Their new neighbour is Willie Bachhuber, a quiz show contestant, exteacher and librarian who has a love of maps. He is estranged from his childhood sweetheart, and his father, a Lutheran pastor of German origins, a dubious background so soon after the war. Willie agrees to become their map reader, and they leave their home town and domestic situations for the Redex. The central part of this story is very much based during the Redex. It fairly zips along describing the ever changing scenery and challenges Australia can offer. Events mean that Titch leaves for a while, but when he comes back to join his

Really Useful Bags wife and Willie who have been aided in his absence by a mechanically minded Aborigine, arguments ensue and Willie leaves. It is very much Willie's story that unfolds in the last section of the story, while the Redex concludes, Willie finds himself stranded on a remote cattle station in the outback, where the mechanic reappears, and he ends up teaching the station's native children. This closing section seems to be something that Carey needed to write, and he has produced a story linked to Indigenous Australians, their traditions and history, and how Willie's life connects to both sections of the community. Meanwhile we keep abreast of the Bobs family after the Redex has concluded. As ever with Peter Carey the reader is in capable hands; his research seems pitch perfect, his parents having run a car dealership in the very town in which he bases the novel. It is very much a book in three parts, but anyone who has visited that continent, or has relatives down under should enjoy this story, it has twists and turns not all on the road, but in the main characters and their families and acquaintances. Continuing the theme of modern houses populating the Town Centre, I focus on perhaps strangely named Cotswold Cottages, writes John Dixon. They nestle snugly between the historic cottage, 54 Barton Street, and Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. They do not have a street number because, quite simply, they filled a gap which had been Freeman’s Court. That court, demolished as long ago as 1939, contained four tenement cottages dominated by a reputed bacon-curing factory with its massive chimney. In 1831 it was reputed to have the capacity to cure 150 flitches at one time: this was a side of bacon presented traditionally to successful married couples: “You shall swear by custom of confession that you ne'er made nuptial transgression; since you were married man and wife”… The factory was uncovered in 1939 with its ash poles intact and with some of the men so employed recalling having seen it in use. This building, together with Freemans Court, was given to the Congregational Church in 1853 by William Freeman. He was a lace-maker who had built a factory in East Street, with housing for his workers built nearby in Chance Street. They are still homes in 2018.

As well as being successful, he was also a member of the Congregational Church next door, because he was unmarried when he died in 1859, he bequeathed part of his £414,000 will for the benefit of the poor. How historically appropriate would it have been to call the modern homes, Freeman’s Cottages?

Tewkesbury's entry into the Britain in Bloom competition has been supported by local businesses this year. From employee volunteering days to special deliveries and painting jobs, there's been plenty of tasks to challenge our hardworking entrepreneurs to make the town centre look spick and span. Before the National Britain in Bloom judges visited the town in August, businesses from the area worked round the clock to support the work of volunteers. Local window cleaner, Gary Thompson of Cotswold Cleaning Company based in Twyning washed down the town centre bus stops and removed some graffiti, while decorator Cameron Pay of Calm Decorating Services repainted the entrance to a town centre alleyway to freshen it up. A bespoke wooden planter was donated by Kim of Premier Timber to cover up a tripping hazard tree stump at Back of Avon and it was delivered from Kim's workshop in Winchcombe by Stefan Roberts of RED couriers. A real team effort by all.

The National Awards Evening will be held in Belfast during October, and the will be attended by Borough Mayor Ruth Hatton. Each entry is judged on horticultural achievement (50% of the total marks), environmental awareness

(25%) and community involvement (25%). Tewkesbury is battling against entries from Amersham, City of London, Immingham, Morpeth, Linlithgow, Thornbury and Wimborne in the 'town' category.

CGT Lettings: Meet the team... When not hard at work, Debbie enjoys walking her dog and gardening (which the dog helps with).

Since opening in 2002, CGT Lettings in Tewkesbury has become a very well established letting agency and, being members of ARLA, are always up to date on all current legislation and regularly attend training courses to increase our knowledge. The Gloucestershire char ity has received a £10,000 grant from the Commissioner’s Fund to run its Art Journal project with young people in the Tewkesbury area who have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse. Manager of Community Family Care Sasha Hart said the aim was to help young people explore issues around domestic abuse and to promote healthy relationships. “The aim is to support young people to express thoughts and feelings surrounding domestic abuse and to build resilience to either repeating that behaviour or being able to recognise the signs early on,” she said. Community Family Care’s Art Journal project was launched in response to the need for effective emotional and mental health support for some young people. It has helped to improve the emotional

wellbeing of more than 100 young people in the last year. The new pilot project, in co-operation with the local PCSOs and Neighbourhood Policing Team, will take a year and involve 12 groups across schools and the local community within Tewkesbury Borough. “We are very grateful to the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Fund. Domestic abuse is often hidden and difficult to talk about. Many young people who grow up witnessing or experiencing it need help to make sure those patterns of behaviour which they have become familiar with don’t become the only way they know. “The project offers them a safe and creative way to explore their difficult thoughts and feelings. The longer term aim is to reduce the number of young people entering into unhealthy relationships in adulthood.” Police and Crime

Commissioner Martin Surl said: “There is evidence that a worryingly high number of young people are affected by emotional or mental health problems. It can affect some of them very early in life and continue into their teens. “Helping young people develop into responsible and productive adults is one of the priorities of my police and crime plan and I am delighted to be able to help The Art Journal Project. It fills a gap in service and offers an original approach to supporting young people who have witnessed violence in the home.” Community Family Care is a registered charity which supports families all over Gloucestershire. Hot or cold hydrotherapy? Joint discomfort and soft tissue injuries can respond to heat and cold hydrotherapy. This is the use of water to stimulate blood flow to an area to promote healing, relaxation and reduce inflammatory mediators. A common misunderstanding is that ice can only be used on acute injuries. Actually, ice can be used any time inflammation is suspected. This can occur in acute, chronic and flare up situations. Unless you already have a diagnosis for your injury it is difficult to know if you should use hot or cold. Heat will force blood into an area and this can aid in relaxation and cause muscle trigger points to ease. However, if the area is already experiencing inflammation then forc-

You donâ€™t get the therapeutic effect until you take the ice off. At this point the body will try and warm up the area and blood flushes in. With this flushing of

blood, brings new oxygen and nutrition and pushes on any inflammatory mediators. Generally speaking muscle injuries respond well to heat and joint injuries respond well to cold. You can cause further irritation with heat but not with cold. So, if in doubt use cold. Tewkesbury Repair Cafe is One Year Old We started in July last year with a small band of enthusiastic repairers, nervously wondering if anyone would come! Not only did the people of Tewkesbury (and beyond) come but they bought with them an interesting and sometimes challenging range of things to fix. We are delighted that hundreds of electrical appliances, tools, clocks, bikes, even cuddly toys have been saved from landfill. Sometime in the 1970’s or 1980s Nash Brothers of 61 Barton St sold a sewing machine, that machine is now in the museum. Trying to identify what it was and how it got to Tewkesbury led us on a trail through some of the major events of 20th Century history. The sewing machine is branded Alfran De-luxe. It looks like many other machines from the early part of last century. Heavily made from solid steel, with a wooden base. It is a hand cranked machine, but has been equipped with an add-on electric motor, powering the machine through a belt drive. The interest starts when you tilt the machine over. A simple paper label stuck to the base “Made in the USSR”. Not in Glasgow, UK home of the once mighty Singer company, nor Manchester where Jones & Co once boasted of being England’s biggest sewing machine company. The USSR. Sewing machine making in Russia really began in 1900 when Singer built a factory at Podolsk. It thrived until WW1 threw the Russian Empire into turmoil. Russia didn’t have the resources to fight a long war. Increasing poverty, anti-war protests and a long history of internal conflict between the ruling Tsar and opposition groups eventually led to revolution. In 1917 the Tsar was overthrown, and a new Bolshevik government – led by Lenin – emerged from the struggle to take its place. The Singer factory closed for several years, finally re-opening in 1924, state owned and renamed the Podolsk Engineering Plant (PMZ). It continued to produce machines identical to the Singer models, particularly the Model 15. In 1931 it produced 520,000 machines, almost entirely for use with the USSR. Trade between the Soviets and the rest of the world was limited, and mainly they bartered agricultural products, timber and raw materials for machinery. The Soviet economy was state controlled and highly centralised. There was little incentive to innovate, so PMZ continued to produce the same products. These were strong, based on the excellent Singer design, and, anyway, higher quality foreign machines were virtually unobtainable, so why change? Not until the 1970s did trade begin to grow between the Soviets and the West. A desire to cool tensions between

the nuclear powers, a need for foreign currency in Russia and a new respect for things Soviet following their success in space travel, led to an easing of restrictions and tariffs. Soviet goods began to appear in Britain: radios (Vega, anyone?), electrical goods, then cameras (Zenith/Kiev) finally cars, the rare Moskvich and then the ubiquitous Lada. Soviet goods were never the best, sometimes crude, and not always reliable: they were often copies of obsolete European or American products, and no match for the Japanese. But, as they were often sold at less than cost price, they were always cheap. Which is where our sewing machine came in. Podolsk products

were sold under various brand name in different countries, where they undercut local products. Even Jones imported them and sold them under their own brand. Our Alfran is at heart a Singer Model 15, designed in the USA in 1879, made by communists in the USSR and sold cheaply in Barton St. Small world. The Podolsk factory did not survive the fall of the Soviet Union. Between 1994 and 2000 it was again owned by Singer, but was unable to compete with more modern factories in China and finally closed at the end of the century. Meanwhile, back in Tewkesbury, our piece of Russian history can be seen in the museum window for the next month.

HEART OF PRIORS PARK BAGS £2,000 FROM TESCO’S COMMUNITY GRANT SCHEME Heart of Priors Park is delighted to announce it has bagged £2,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help community grant scheme. Bags of Help is run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork, and sees grants raised from the sale of carrier bags awarded to thousands of local community projects every year. Since launching in 2015, it’s provided more than £56 million to over 16,000 local community projects. Millions of shoppers have voted in Tesco stores up and down the country and it can now be revealed Heart of Priors Park has been awarded £2,000. Work will now begin on bringing the project to life. Youth Project for Tewkesbury Heart of Priors Park spokesperson said: “We are very pleased with the amount we have been awarded from Tesco’s Bags of Help Community Grant Scheme. The Grant will be used to set up a Youth Project within Tewkesbury. A youth project is well needed within the town and we are finally moving forward, to give the Youth of today something to

look forward to each week. We are still at the ‘planning’ stage but would like the youth to contact us with ideas and suggestions. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us and for this great course.” Alec Brown, Tesco’s Head of Community, said: “Bags of Help has been a fantastic success and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from customers. We can’t wait to see the projects come to life.” Voting ran in stores throughout May and June with customers choosing which local project they would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the checkout. Tesco customers get the chance to vote for three different groups each time they shop.

Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions are awarded funding. Groundwork’s National Chief Executive, Graham Duxbury, said: “Bags of Help continues to enable local communities up and down Britain to improve the local spaces and places that matter to them. The diversity of projects that are being funded shows that local communities have a passion to create something great in their area. We are pleased to be able to be a part of the journey and provide support and encouragement to help local communities thrive.” Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. First novel for young Tewkesbury author James Stone, who left Tewkesbury School last year, has just written and published his first novel. Inspired by genres such as Game of Thrones, ‘The Girl and the Goddess’ is a ‘low fantasy’ fiction which James has worked on during his gap year. “The Girl and the Goddess is a novel featuring drama, war and politics, said James. “I began working on it around four years ago; back then it was only a short story, but it has since become a much longer tale. “I was fortunate to live in America and travel to a few exotic places around the world when I was younger which gave me an appreciation of different cultures and climates of which I have used as inspiration for

the vale from the summit of Herefordshire Beacon. Park in the pay and display car park on the A449 opposite the Malvern Hills hotel. Leave by the obvious route from the car park up the hill, forking right to ascend to British Camp’s 2000 year old earthworks (1). The path climbs over the ramparts to the summit of Herefordshire Beacon (2). To the west the view is towards Welsh hills, with Herefordshire’s famously undulating countryside in between. Looking east the panorama stretches from the Lickey Hills in the north to the Cotswolds in the south. Walk southwards along the edge of the ramparts until you come to a path (3), which descends to an open space. Here there is a circular orientation and direction structure which is worth checking out (4). Follow the path as

directed to visit curiosity known as Clutter’s (or Giant’s) Cave. This may once have been used as a shepherd’s shelter, as well as being connected to pagan beliefs. The cave is always very popular with children! Retrace your steps to point four and follow the broad track as it skirts around the slopes of the hill. There are various benches along this path where the views can be taken in. As the main track curves around, bear right down a steep grassy path towards the reservoir below (5).

Above British Camp Reservoir If you don’t fancy tackling the descent and prefer to return by a higher route, the track you are on will take you

back to the car park. British Camp Reservoir collects water from various hill springs. It was opened in 1895 by

the Duchess of Teck, granddaughter of George III and mother of Queen Mary. On reaching the side of the reservoir, bear left, keeping the fence to your right. (6). When you reach the drive leading to the Reservoir House, turn left (7), and walk up through the woods. Eventually the drive emerges at the lower end of the car park at British Camp.

VISITORS FLOCK TO MORETON SHOW Visitors from all over the country will flock to the Cotswolds this month for one of the nation’s largest one day countryside events. Moreton Show, which will be held on Saturday 1st September, is all about the best in British farming and the countryside. It’s been held on part of the Batsford Estate just to the north edge of the town - since 1949. The event is all about the best in British foods, crafts and produce, with a variety of trade stands and marquees as well as events for all the family. The 165 acre site features show jumping, terrier racing, the best in livestock (including the National Poll Hereford Cattle Show), daredevil stunt riding, ponies in fancy dress, vintage tractors, sheepdog trials and much, much more. • Fleas jump 150 times their own size, which in human terms is the same as jumping the length of a football field, or as high as the Eiffel Tower. • When a flea jumps, is accelerates 50 times faster than a space shuttle. • The biggest flea is the Beaver Flea which measures 11mm long. • Fleas even plagued dinosaurs. Fossils of two giant flea species have been found in Mongolia and China. The larger one measured over 22mm long, but more impressively, with mouthparts capable of piercing dinosaur skin. However, these flea ancestors lacked the ability to jump. • Fleas can revive themselves after being frozen for up to a year. • A flea lays between 1500-2000 eggs in their lifetime, or alternatively lay 50 eggs a day. An adult flea lays eggs on the host animal, not on carpets or bedding. • Fleas cannot lay eggs until approximately 40 hours after their first meal. One flea can become 1000 on your pet in 21 days. • Flea larvae do not like the light so move deep into carpets and cracks in flooring. Flea pupae can live up to a year in your home. Sarah tours from Texas to Tewkesbury! Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Sarah McQuaid has announced an exhaustive world tour which will see her travel the length and breadth of the USA - before she arrives in Tewkesbury to play at the Old Baptist Chapel at the end of November. Born in Madrid (to a Spanish father and an American mother), raised in Chicago and now living in Cornwall, Sarah McQuaid was taught piano and guitar by her folksinging mother, and from the age of twelve she was embarking on tours of the US and Canada with the Chicago Children’s Choir. At eighteen she went to France for a year to study philosophy at the University of Strasbourg, before moving to Ireland in 1994. She lived there for 13

years, working as a music journalist and magazine editor, and in 2007, she re-released her 1997 debut solo album, When Two Lovers Meet, and launched her solo career with a performance on Irish national television. Ten years and four albums later, in April 2017, Sarah was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ards International Guitar Festival, in recognition of her innovative use of the DADGAD tuning and her authorship

SUCCESSFUL OFFSHORE TRIP FOR SEVERN UNIT MVS This Summer Tewkesbury based Severn Unit Maritime Volunteer Service had a most successful training cruise down the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel in their training boat Minerva and three other cruisers. Extending from the Inside: Music for theorbo from the 17th to the 21st centuries The most dramatic feature of the theorbo, the largest member of the lute family, is its long - extended - neck. The long bass strings, according to one of the earliest player-composers, Alessandro Piccinini, are the “heart and soul” of the instrument. This recital features music by Piccinini alongside his eccentric Roman contemporary, Hieronymus Kapsberger, and the more mellifluous Frenchman Robert de Visée. Composers from our own time have become intrigued by the theorbo, and two short works by James MacMillan (Motet for theorbo) and Benjamin Oliver (Extending from the Inside) show the instrument’s future as well as its past. Elizabeth Kenny is one of Europe’s leading lute players. Her playing has been described as “incandescent” (Music and Vision), “radical” (The Independent on Sunday) and “indecently beautiful” (Toronto Post). In twenty years of touring she has played with many of the world’s best period instrument groups. With her own ensemble Theatre of the Ayre, she has created inspirational programmes of seventeenth

THE WATTSY WALK, THE RETURN JOURNEY Local rugby player Lee Watts is to put on his walking boots again to raise money for Cancer Research, this time he will be walking from Gloucester Rugby’s Kingsholm Stadium to Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Ground, the reverse of his walk last November in which he raised more than £6,000 for the charity. The walk last year was in memory of Lee’s friend Joe Goodwin who sadly died from cancer in 2016 aged just 29, Lee was inspired to do the walk again this year in memory Joe and of his friend Mike Lee who photographed Lee arriving at the ‘Welcome to Gloucester’ sign last year, and who was diagnosed not long after with Brain Cancer and sadly

TEWKESBURY STUDENTS SHARE EXAM SUCCESS Tewkesbury School students were delighted to be able to share their examination success with the Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds MP, on his visit to UCAS in Cheltenham. The students, accompanied by their Headteacher, Gary Watson, had been invited to UCAS on their busiest day of the year by Chief Executive, Clare Marchant. They were only too willing to share their joy, their results and their intended destinations with staff at UCAS.

Amongst other things they got to get an insight into the work of the social media team who respond to direct messaging on various platforms but who also proactively look for sources of concern and common threads across various platforms. Call centre staff were dealing with up to 2,000

calls every hour from concerned students and parents. Headteacher, Gary Watson, said “I came this morning expecting at least an element of chaos, certainly some stress and high levels of anxiety as staff are dealing with the, at times, raw emotions of up to half a million anxious

young people and their parents. What I have witnessed this morning has been a very calm, purposeful atmosphere characterised by effective teamwork and mutual support between staff. I leave knowing that the nation’s students are in good hands!” Photos by Jack Boskett.

Tewkesbury Rugby Club Girls The girls section at Tewkesbury rugby club started in 2009 and consists of U13 Yrs 7&8, U15 Yrs 9&10 and U18 Yrs 11,12,13. As well as regular training sessions the girls play in development games and fixtures against local sides. The Club runs regular Inner Warrior camps which are fun sessions used as an introduction for Girls and ladies to come along and try rugby. The next is

AN AFTERNOON AT FORTHAMPTON

This year, in order to keep pace with the ever mounting costs of putting the show on, (pushing on to over £8000.00), we found it necessary to charge every person, classic car drivers included, a small entry fee of £5.00 if prebooked on-line or £7.50 on the gate. This is the first increase in the gate price since we started 10 years ago. Although there were one or two mumblings about the charge (and I mean a tiny percentage), we were completely filled to capacity by lunch-time. It should be remembered that all proceeds collected, go to benefit our many charities and

every Rotarian plus the helpers give their valuable time freely , which without them there would be no show. And what a show it was! Project Bloodhound took centre stage and drew a good deal of interest, as did Alan Millyard’s wonderful ‘Flying Millyard’ 5 litre V-twin motorcycle. Alan is an amazing creative genius and made the engine using 2 cylinders from Pratt & Whitney radial aircraft engine. He made absolutely everything including the carburettors for this unique machine, which started first kick and thumped like a dump truck! He even brought along his ‘modified’ Kawasaki

KH500, with 2 extra cylinders added to an extended crank case; this was a 5 cylinder 900cc 2 stroke, which apparently tops 110 bhp at the rear wheel! Next in line was Doug Bond’s 8 litre ‘Top Fuel’ Dragster, which was parked centre stage in the arena and attracted a huge crown when fired up – the noise was insane, but crisp and sweet when the throttle was momentarily opened. A big thankyou to Doug for bringing it and demonstrating the power needed to reach 225 miles an hour in a quarter of a mile from a standing start. And just after lunch Terry Clarke rolled up in

his re-creation of John Cobb’s 1933 Napier Railton land speed record car, (which in its time achieved then record breaking speed of 163. 59 mph on Bonneville Salt Flats in 1936.) The original 24 litre Napier Lion engine produced 564 hp and weighed a ton, but Terry’s car is fitted with a highly modified 6.7 litre Cummins twin turbosupercharged diesel engine which weighs far less than its original counterpart and churns out a hefty 680 hp with a whopping 1000 ft lbs of torque at 2000 rpm. 2000 rpm in top gear is 100mph! it tops out at 3,600 rpm – I’ll let you do the maths!

The day wouldn’t have been the same without our hugely successful ‘almost family’ Haywood Sisters, who put up a very professional performance medley of songs from the ‘30’s, to which everyone danced on the specially laid dance floor in front of the car display. ‘Gloucester Strings’ picked up the mood and the ‘Lindy Hop’ dancers drew a substantial crowd, with a brilliantly choreographed set of dance routines, which carried on throughout the day. Rotary was also generously donated a book charting the progression of ‘Bloodhound’ and is signed by Richard Noble, the machine’s project director and Andy Green, the driver, who hopes not only to exceed the existing supersonic record, but the 1000mph barrier. We will be running an on-

line auction for this unique book, so keep your eyes on the CVF Facebook pages. And lastly, a big thankyou to Rebecca Leppard and her husband Nigel for their terrific help and support in putting this show together and to all my incredibly hard working Rotarians, especially Dick De Leeuw and Alan Verrinder, volunteer helpers and amazing kitchen ladies, led by the redoubtable Clare Jennings without whose unstinting support we couldn’t have put this show on. One final accolade must go to young Owen Ricketts, our youngest (12 years old), car parking assistant, who was a shining star, with unceasing energy and a fine example to every one of his age group. DEVEREUX CENTRE FLU CLINIC It’s now eighteen months since Mythe Medical Practice moved to the First Floor of The Devereux Centre in Barton Road and a lot has happened during this time. Following a CQC visit to the new premises and an Inspection just before the move, the Practice was delighted to join the top 4% in the Country with an “Outstanding” rating. Building on this we have just received our latest nationwide GP Survey result showing that our patients put us 4th in Gloucestershire out of 82 when asked how they would rate their experience of making an appointment, 6th on how easy it is to use our website and look for information or access services and 7th for their overall experience of our Practice. At Mythe Medical Practice we strive to offer an excellent service to our patients benefitting greatly from feedback and involvement from our fantastic Patient Participation Group who meet every two months to discuss Practice innovations and improvements. They were integral to the very successful Carers’ Event held earlier this year at The Devereux Centre jointly with Church Street Medical. The PPG will also be part of our annual Flu Campaign which this year we are hoping to make even easier for patients to attend. Influenza is a serious disease but vaccination is the best way to reduce the risk of getting sick or spreading it to others. This year we will be carrying out the usual Saturday morning clinics and Thursday evenings (by appointment) as well as the very popular “Hot Seats” where patients can just call in between the hours of 08.3012.30 and 14.00 -17.00

each day from 1st October 2018 to 2nd November 2018 (no appointment needed). Added to this we are going out into the Community to offer patients a local venue saving them attending the surgery. The week commencing 22nd October we will be at the following locations : Northway Community Hub, Ashchurch Village Hall, Jubilee II Neighbourhood Centre, Holy Trinity Church Hall and Wheatpieces Community Centre. everything runs smoothly and both they and Roger Hare of Carers’ Gloucestershire Co-ordinator will attend the Community based sessions. Roger will be available to chat to any Carers about an exciting new pilot scheme for Tewkesbury called “Connecting Carers” which aims to identify Carers who are experiencing some level of social isolation and where appropriate, support and accompany them to access activities, groups and other opportunities that they’re not doing at the moment.

Hexie was recently measured at 16’6” long, a little short of the 18’10” record for a reptile in captivity.
