This is a very unusual story, partially why I selected to read it, as the blurb had intrigued me. In fact, I think that the brief synopsis "In the lawless, drought-ridden lands of Arizona Territory in 1893 two extraordinary lives collide" is a bit misleading, but certainly beguiling. We first meet Lurie, who has a price on his head, and has a tenacious lawman on his trail for most of the book. He is of Middle East origin, his Anglicised name derived from Djuric. After various narrow escapes he falls in with a caravan of camels destined for the US army. This is factual; there was the Beale Wagon Road of camels between Arizona and California seen as ideal carriers across the deserts; the American Civil War intervened, and the animals lost in the desert's haze of history's memory, to now be very well remembered by this prize winning author. She won the Orange prize for her first book "The Tiger's Wife". Lurie is an interesting character who becomes very attached to his camel. Also fellow handler Jolly, with whom Lurie establishes a firm friendship. It is their escapades, over many years, which form the greater part of this story. Their adventures, and camel riding, allows the author to introduce fresh ideas into the traditional Western, and to describe some bleak landscapes. The second strand is a day in the life of Nora Lark, mother, wife, Arizonian frontierswoman. Her husband a newspaperman has gone off seeking water for their drought stricken farm, their two old-

䡺 Quality pape est sons have also left after him following a family row. Nora remains looking after her youngest son Toby, mother-in-law and home help and cousin Josie. Their lives are tough at the best of times, but now, with no spare water at all, drought and thirst are recurring parts of her story as is the strange beast Toby and Josie have seen which has alarmed them both. We witness disputes that interfere with the lives of the Lark family, their farm, and their business. Local politics, lawlessness and rivalries permeate the pages where Nora's story is told, and throughout she talks to her dead daughter Evelyn. The events of this day mount as do the tensions within the household and with their neighbours until the new day dawns and the novel's denouement throws light on their uncertain lives. One of the joys of this book apart from the unusual storyline is the descriptive text, Obreht has an ability with words and she conjures up some great pictures in the reader's mind; one book to savour, not to rush, like the steady pace of a camel across a deserted landscape. Local Car Park Payment Options? 䡵 DEAR TEWKESBURY DIRECT: I write regarding the letter published on page 21 of September 2020’s edition of Tewkesbury Direct. I live in Station Street Tewkesbury, and I can see the car park easily, being on the first floor of the Maltings. The car park entrance and exit is in Station Street, and the ticket machine near the entrance was recently changed to RingGo only. I have seen a lot of people turn around and left the car park. This Ringo Machine did not tell people that the other one in the car park accepted cash. Later they changed this machine to take coins, and the other one to take only RingGo. I asked a car park attendant what the reason was, and his answer was that the firm who empty the machines charge to WASH the, money! I paid some coins into Lloyds Bank, and when I told them what I was told they just laughed.

TEWKESBURY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
This is a real piece of architectural deception, writes John Dixon of Tewkesbury Historical Society. Most visitors think this is an original Tudor/Jacobean building – especially when they spot the historic date of 1761. That should be a hint that things are not as expected - the Date is Georgian! Visitors will then spot the date 1921 – this is the accurate one which exhibits the pride of the Bank when it refurbished its Tewkesbury HQ in 1921. Before WWI there were three branches but, after a national bank merger, the Church Street branch was closed – the eagle-eyed will spot the building next to the Tourist Information Centre with the word “Bank” still displayed. Comparing the building of today with 1902, we can applaud, not only the transformation of an ugly box shape, but also the expansion and incorporation of a smaller box at 20 High Street. This refurbishment was probably the last example of an enthusiastic trend from c1890 when several buildings were refurbished in what was thought of as the celebrated Tudor Style. Thomas Collins used his own money to transform the centre of the town with other buildings such as the Berkeley Arms [genuine!] Cross House and the Tudor House, home of the infant John Moore. The architectural historian David Verey slated the Tudor House by accusing the owner of “tacking on floorboards” to the elegant exterior. It is also interesting to compare the Bank’s interior, as it was until recently, with the much less imposing buildings of its rivals (except the Halifax and maybe TSB). With the lamentable passing of Barclays, let us hope we can continue to cherish our banks, however much they have misled us architecturally!

Street Banners 2020 By Andrew Lawrence The medieval street banners that have now become such a feature of the town during the summer months came close to not being hung this year. Members and friends of The Tewkesbury Battlefield Society had been getting together to repair and repainted them when social distancing and the lockdown stopped all group working.

It was feared that it would not be possible to finish the work and get them hung as usual. But ‘never say die’ The Battlefield Society decided to carry on and with fantastic help from our painters, who took to working from home, they fished refurbishing all of our 170 banners ready for the summer. Normally the society has a couple of days exhibiting the banners in the Town Hall where interested people can have a close look at them and maybe book one to have on their property during the summer. As this event also fell victim to the lockdown restrictions we were left with the option of contacting people who had previously had banners and asking if they would like one this year. The response was amazing. Once the word got around that the banners were going up, as usual, we were inundated with requests. Some from people who had never had one before. Next came the problem of organising work-
ing parties to put them up. This problem was overcome by the use of Family Pods. So, each of the main streets in town and the Gloucester Road area had a Family Pod organised to work independently of each other to hang the requested banners.
The people of Tewkesbury responded in their usual generous manner initially by making donations to the society, these will ensure that the banners tradition can continue. And they also posted nearly 12,000 favourable comments on social media sites. We truly appreciate that level of support and it makes the project even more worthwhile. Sadly, the banners
will have to come down at the end of September when the work of repair and repainting will begin again. We will then be ready for 2021, which will be the 550th anniversary of the battle of Tewkesbury. Then we hope to have even more banners on display to help mark this notable year. Restrictions permitting, work will start on them every Monday afternoon from the beginning of October in Elizabeth Wyatt House, Barton Road. Visitors are always welcome to drop in to see what we are doing and if they feel capable have a go at a bit of painting. In these difficult times The Tewkesbury Battlefield Society thanks all those people who have already given their time and painting skills to such great effect. And to the people and businesses of the town who have hosted the finished banners. Without their support we would not have a such unique and colourful town.

Knitters final fundraising year Twyning fundraisers Anita and Sam Haycock are bowing out on a high note after handing over a cheque for £1400 to the Worcester-based charity Acorns Childrens’ Hospice. “At the beginning of 2020 we decided that this would be our final year or raising money for Acorns Hospice by selling knitted animals complete with Creme Eggs,” said Anita. “Sam is now in his 93rd year and I am in my 82nd, and we’d already completed 22 year selling Easter animals, initially in aid of the old Tewkesbury Hospital. “When this was knocked down, we decided to raise money for Acorns. “Our team of knitters gradually got depleted due to age, infirmity and sadly death in some cases. “We thought - ‘one last year’ - then COVID19 struck and all our outlets went into lockdown! “Eventually, after many months, we managed to collect the money and left-over animals together with their chocolate eggs. “Despite Easter having come and gone, we were able to distribute some to Chance Street School (and we are sure the children appreciated them!) “A huge number also went to Acorns, where

THE ADVENTURES OF VICKY & SPONGE, AN AMAZING STORY OF COMPASSION Written by Jason Blackburn of Northway We adopted two rescue chickens from the British Hen Welfare Trust in Hereford. We named them Vicky and Sponge. If we had room for a third it would have been called Jam. The chickens settled in well and began producing eggs almost immediately. All was well for four days and then we noticed Sponge had blood on her tail feathers. Chickens are attracted to the colour red, so Vicky was pecking at Sponge’s wound, making it worse. A visit to the vets – the wonderful team at Folly Gardens revealed that Sponge had a streptococcal infection, a common condition for caged birds. Sadly, Sponge had actually developed a tear in her Egg Vent. At first we tried various creams to treat the infection in the hope it would heal naturally. The wound attracted flies and maggots quickly developed, requiring a second trip to Folly Gardens. We then had a week of keeping Sponge indoors with tablets and creams to treat the infection and heal the wound. At one point with the chicken wrapped in an old towel it took three of us to get her to swallow a crushed tablet! A week later came a very difficult decision. Brad at Folly Gardens advised that with the wound not healing; an operation to stitch the
wound was probably Sponge’s only hope. Although we’d only had the chickens a matter of days, they’d already
streets. Standing in the hall, about to send out messages on Facebook, we could hear her but not see her. Then she
Vicky and Sponge become part of the family. If we hadn’t adopted them they would have become cat food, and now we needed to step in again to give Sponge a fighting chance. The operation went well, and Sponge was a popular house guest at the vets as she recovered. Two weeks convalescence, with a makeshift run in our front path, the run of the hall and the kitchen and her own bed in our utility room seemed to do the trick. Sponge became very domesticated and we couldn’t believe it when she managed to climb the stairs. Unable to find her one afternoon we started to scour the
poked her head out from our bedroom at the top of the stairs, wondering what all the fuss was about. After two weeks,
Sponge’s stitches came out and Brad was thrilled with her progress. We then reunited Sponge with Vicky in their run. Vicky was beside herself running up and down as Sponge came bounding down the garden. They are now settled together again, and steadily filling out. It’s been quite a start to our chicken adventure but we are so pleased that we could make a difference. Best of all Sponge has started producing the occasional egg. We can’t eat them yet because of the medication but with time and a little luck fresh eggs will be the order of the day.

Walking is a skill we learn from a young age, as we grow and develop it happens without conscious thought. The problem is we start to take short-cuts and develop bad habits. We often find that ‘walking’ is actually our momentum driving us forward, not a conscious thought.
In our Bonsai Chi classes we perform various drills, includes walking forwards and backwards. This allows us to walk mindfully, being aware of where we are placing our feet, connecting with the floor as we step, understanding how we’re apportioning our body weight so improving our balance. By adding arm movements in we also improve our hand-eye co-ordination, flexibility and mobility. Our breathing alters as we relax into our walking, enjoying the feeling of moving. A NEW BOOK CHRONICLES THE LIFE OF ASHCHURCH ARMY CAMP by Fran and Martin Collins Our latest book: “Keep ’Em Rollin’, Keep ‘Em Shootin’, Keep ‘Em Supplied” takes its name from the motto of the U.S. supply depot at Ashchurch during World War 2, known as G-25. G.25’s role was to supply U.S. troops in U.K. and Europe with vehicles and armaments from 1942 until the end of the war. The depot, which had originally been a British Army depot, was entrusted to the U.S. forces as part of an agreement between British and American war planning committees. It was to become the largest U.S. military supply depot in the U.K. during the war. In 1943, as a result of British production plants being unable to assemble enough military vehicles for the U.S. forces imminently expected in the U.K. as part of Operation Bolero,
a military vehicle assembly plant was established at the base. After D-Day, there was less demand for more military vehicles and by mid-1945 the depot’s main mission was to pack and return U.S. military equipment to the U.S. with a workforce consisting mainly of German P.O.W.s and British civilian workers. In May 1946, the depot was handed back to the British Army. The book chronicles the wartime activities of Ashchurch and its satellite camps, such as Toddington, Alderton and Gotherington in the area around Tewkesbury, using U.S.
military archive materials as well as stories and photos from newspapers of the time, local people and G.I.s who served there. It also looks into the impact the soldiers (both black and white) had on the area around Tewkesbury, focusing on the effect the G.I.s had on the children and the young ladies of the area.

HISTORY MATTERS with John Dixon of Tewkesbury Historical Society
A taste of history: the Abbey Brewery in Tewkesbury The Arnold, Perrett & Co. Wickwar Brewery was founded in that village in 1820 firstly with the name Arnold but it expanded to take over other concerns and adopted this name in 1887, writes John Dixon. It came to Tewkesbury in 1896 when it took over the Tewkesbury Brewery Co. but changed its name to the Abbey Brewery. The 1901 illustration from Gardner’s Guide shows that it was both architecturally beautiful, as well as being functional - the working part of the brewery can be seen down Smith’s Lane. It also owned the Shakespeare next door (now St Richard’s Charity Bookshop). The brewery historical website lists 232 pubs in the south west with Tewkesbury boasting 12: among them prestigious ones such as the Black Bear, the Bell and the Wheatsheaf as well as the former Aurora in Church Street, which could really boast about having the first public-house flushing toilet in Tewkesbury. In 1924, however, the brewery merged with the Cheltenham Original Brewery Co. Ltd , and brewing ceased. (Ironically, perhaps, the Wickwar Brewery was resurrected in 1990). The Brewery was revived as Tewkesbury Garage, famously once visited by aviatrix, Amy Johnson. It did not, however, survive the iconoclasm of the modern age which saw the site cleared for a series of small sized supermarkets (can any reader name them all?) before Poundland opened in 2014 – and remains. What a pity that the politicians and architects did not show a little more respect, demolish the redundant working bits - but maintain that glorious facade.

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway-based 2874 Trust has received £3,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to assist with volunteer training projects for ‘heritage mechanical engineering’. Since the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown of The 2874 Trust, which is restoring 1918-built Great Western Railway heavy freight locomotive no. 2874, training projects were put on hold. All work at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) was stopped to ensure the safety of the public, staff and volunteers. David Foster, Chairman of The 2874 Trust said: “Now our base at the GWSR has re-opened we are able to resume our training projects. Thanks to the National Lottery grant we have some additional tools and the personal protection equipment necessary to ensure our volunteers can work and learn in safety. “We’re grateful that The National Lottery Heritage Fund is supporting us at this crucial time – it’s a lifeline to us and others who are passionate about sustaining heritage for the benefit of all.” The funding, made
possible by National Lottery players, was awarded through The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage Emergency
Fund. The fund has made £50million available to provide emergency funding for those most in need across the heritage sector.

EXCITING “PRIDE OF BRISTOL” EXERCISE FOR SEVERN UNIT MVS MEMBER Head of Severn Unit Maritime Volunteer Service Nic Price said “Jane Thomas, one of our Founder members and an Ex RNXS member, had her “Lockdown Blues” lifted during August by a very interesting invitation to join MV “Pride of Bristol”, an ex Fleet Tender, in Bristol’s Floating Harbour and took part in an exciting overnight exercise in the Severn Estuary.” The crew joined the ship just after 13.00 on 15th August at Mardyke in Bristol, received a briefing from the skipper and duties were allocated, with Jane being assigned to the helm.
After taking on victuals they made ready to sail and proceeded through Cumberland Basin and Entrance Lock then up the River Avon to Avonmouth. Jane Thomas said

Pride of Bristol had to maintain a steady course and speed. This arduous training took place out in the Severn Estuary throughout the afternoon and into the night. Although the sea was calm visibility deteriorated after dark and with strong currents this made navigation difficult. We successfully returned the candidates to Portishead in the early hours of the morning then when we had enough water proceeded back up the Bristol Avon to our moorings after a long but successful exercise.”

DUMBLETON IN AUTUMN Like its near neighbour Bredon, Dumbleton Hill is an outlier of the Cotswolds, writes Jack B. Walker. This particular route takes us through some lovely woodland and across landscaped parklands - a grand walk at any time of year, although some paths can be muddy after rain. Park at the side of the road near the church, leaving access for farm machinery which uses the lanes year-round. Dogs on leads please, as livestock graze both fields and parkland. Walk along the main street and take the turning on the left into Dairy Lane (1). Passing the Village Hall on your left, walk to the end of the lane towards the cricket club, and look for a stile in a metal fence on the right (2). Cross the stile and fol-

woods. Go through the gate (3) and follow the path through the trees. On your left you can see the remains of an overgrown ice house, which dates back to the days when Dumbleton Hall was a fashionable private residence. The Hall was acquired by the Post Office and used as a holiday retreat for employees for many years. It is now a stylish country house hotel. Follow the path around the edge of the wood, following the way marker arrows. There are good views to your right of Bredon Hill and the Vale of Evesham beyond. There
are often cattle in these fields – and I have, in the past, encountered a bull here. Docile, but do proceed with caution! Eventually you will meet a bridleway coming up from Didcot Farm (4). Turn left and follow the track as it climbs towards the edge of a wood. Go through the gate (5) and follow the obvious path as it climbs steeply to the top of the hill. Parts of the bridleway here can become slippery and muddy after rain, particularly in winter months. As you reach the top of the hill the path levels out and there are some views to the Cotswolds through clearings in the trees. The woods you will walk through are home to various herds of deer; fallow, roe and muntjac may all be encountered. Buzzards and red kites also nest in the trees here and you are quite likely to hear their cries and see them wheeling in the sky above you. Eventually you will reach a farm gate on

Leave access for farm machinery. your left (6) which leads to Hill Farm. Go through the gate and walk across the fields at the summit, then through another gate to the right of the farm (7). Descend on the tarmac road through Dumbleton Park. The hall can be seen on your left – and you might see the fountain in the ornamental pond with its small family of black swans too.
At the bottom of the park, pass between some farm cottages belonging to Dumbleton Estate (8), and take the lane ahead back to the church. The parish church and graveyard are worth a detour: the travel writer Paddy Leigh Fermor is buried here, alongside his wife Joan and brother-in-law Lord Monsell, formerly of Dumbleton Hall.

Helping to alleviate pain and discomfort in older pets Following on from last month’s musings regarding the importance of dental health for our senior pets health, we have seen an increase in dental cases coming in through the door, writes Brad Cooper of Folly Gardens Vets. This has been really rewarding as hopefully more owners now understand the relationship of oral hygiene with their pets health. For this reason we are extending our SeptemberSmile into October. The 10% discount on all dental procedures will continue for another month, so please call the surgery and we can get your cat, dog or rabbit booked in for oral care this October. Another condition that dogs, cats (and other species for that matter) suffer from in older age is mobility issues and the clinical symptoms of these are not always easy to spot for owners. Arthritis, joint disease and muscular discomfort are really quite common in middle aged and older pets and there is a great deal of help that we can provide to you and your pet to alleviate some of these symptoms. Joint or muscular pain might manifest as an obvious limp or hopping, but sometimes the symptoms are more subtle such as a reduced willingness to run, jump, exercise or even just reduced appetite. Cats in particular are impressive in

their ability to “hide”, muscular and skeletal discomfort and sometimes vets have to act a bit like a detective to determine where the source of discomfort is coming from. The key in treating any muscular or skeletal pain is to determine where the discomfort originates and this is where a thorough history and clinical examination are necessary. Sometimes, for a diagnosis to be made, investigative procedures are necessary such as X-rays, blood tests, joint fluid analysis - but once a diagnosis can be made, then a tailored treatment plan can be put in place for the individual pet. At Folly Gardens Vets we offer pain management clinics and we have found them really beneficial to the quality of life
for young and older pets suffering from discomfort. In particular we are seeing quite a lot of cases of forelimb (elbow and shoulder) and hindlimb (hips, knees and ankle) pain in all sizes of patients. We offer a multimodal approach to pain management including surgery to address the underlying cause but also tailored medications to relieve discomfort as soon as possible. We offer complimentary treatments such as physiotherapy, acupuncture and laser. Finally, we perform regenerative medicine including intra-articular placement rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy which has been proven to assist in the reduction of joint pain in dogs. If you feel that your family member might be slowing down, lame for longer than a few days or just not quite bouncy pet that they were, there is much that we can do. COVID-19 AND MENTAL HEALTH This is a strange and unusual time for all of us regarding our mental health. It is important to make sure we all do what we deem right for ourselves and our family and try not to judge others for their actions. What is right for one person is not right for another. Sadly, in my line of work, I am seeing more and more people afraid to go out and afraid to connect with others. We need to work as a community to support those who are having difficult days and also to accept help when others see we are struggling. When in town and “that” person gets a bit too close to you, or doesn’t hold the door open for you, or you feel, “forces” you to walk on the road to ensure social distancing, be mindful that that person might be struggling with their mental health that day. We all have days when we are worried, not as rested or feeling anxious. A smile and a bit of compassion goes a
long way to help on those days. Remember, a happy person is much more able to maintain a healthy biochemistry in their brain and body and that is what we all need to be able to get through

One of the things that fascinated me most when I took up beekeeping was the sheer complexity of hive society. Lift out an individual frame from a beehive and although it may look like a chaotic scene with thousands of bees milling around aimlessly, there is a definite structure as they are, in fact, attending to a variety of assigned tasks. During its short life, a bee will have many different jobs and I thought that this month it would be interesting to look at some of what makes up the CV of a worker bee. Listed below are some of the jobs that bees do: DAY 1 – The newly hatched bee will clean out the hexagonal cell in which she was born, so it can be reused. DAY 3 – 16 UNDERTAKER BEE – Most bees, when they know they are about to die, will leave the hive. If they do die indoors, the undertaker bee is tasked with removing the body. This helps prevent disease and stops other insects being attracted by the smell of decay. DAY 3 – 12 NURSE BEE - Nurse bees look after the next generation, by feeding them with ‘bee bread’, a fermented mixture of pollen and nectar, for 3 to 4 days before capping off the cells containing the larvae with wax. Nurse bees can attend to well over 1,000 larvae a day. DAY 7 – 12 QUEEN ATTENDANT – Queen attendants take care of the queen by feeding and grooming her. Whilst doing this they pick up the Queen’s pheromone and spread it throughout the hive, which lets the rest of the bees know that the queen is still in the hive and in charge. DAY 12 – 18 POLLEN PACKING – When forager bees bring pollen back to the hive it needs to be stored. The packer will take the pollen and place it in the honeycomb, sealing it with a little honey to ferment it into bee bread. This pollen is used to feed the brood (larvae). DAY 12 – 18 FANNING – The bees fan the inside of the hive with their wings to regulate the temperature. WATER CARRIERS – As the name suggests, collect water which they put on the backs of the fanning bees to help cool them and the hive. DAY 12 - 35 HONEYCOMB BUILDING – All workers produce wax, but only the builder bees use it to make the honeycomb. DAY 12 - 35 HONEY SEALING – This

bees in the hive are a small number of drones who do very little work, have no sting, and their sole purpose is to attempt to mate with a queen bee. Before you start to think that a male bee’s life is a complete picnic, I should add that after mating they immediately die! So what are estate management charges? These fees sometimes disguised as 'upkeep fees' or freehold 'service charges’. This is where a
private limited company has been set up (usually by a housing developer) to collect payments from householders to contribute financially towards various facilities for the estate which would normally be undertaken by the Council. In some cases it will be the maintenance of green open spaces, such a grass cutting, but in other cases it can include nearly every shared facility including the
road, street lighting and drainage. The benefit might be that your estate will be well maintained, but there is no guarantee of this. The downside is that the payments you will be required to make are uncapped. There is currently no framework in place to regulate increases and the level of charges which can be demanded. It has become widespread in the UK and worldwide partly due to its very clever method of seed dispersal, making it very successful propagator. Its large, pretty flowers attract pollinators, but this is not always a good thing if they only visit this plant and not other native species present. This is how it becomes so prolific. It needs to be managed and levels kept low, but thanks to the volunteers most of the plants in reach were removed. This is an annual task so it will need to be done again next year. Other regular work party days are planned, of course working within the rules for Covid 19 and luckily TNR is a large open space. You stretch ahead of me right now and it is just as if you are like a large lump of clay. You are there waiting for me to become the sculptor and manipulate you into the shape that I wish you to be. I could grumble that my knees ache and crackle when I get up and down. There again I could be positive and celebrate the fact that I am alive and as healthy as I am! So many people would give the earth to feel as well as I do. I could feel badly done by when I think of all the things I didn't get from my parents when I was growing up compared to many other children in my class who seemed to be given everything under the sun. I could, of course, be grateful for all that they did give me when I was growing up and that was especially true of the love and total security and support that they always gave to me so selflessly. I could be annoyed that I have a basket of washing waiting to be done ; a hoover waiting

Tewkesbury Historical Society had half of its twenty ninth season wiped out by the floods and then COVID - and we faced having the first half of the 30th Season wiped out as well, writes John Dixon. Even a Covid cloud, however, has its silver lining - and that is Zoom. At least for all those with access to the internet. We were, therefore, abel to carry on with our September meeting when local 'boy', Dr. Pater Raggatt, took us through the Battle of Tewkesbury as a witness - it was a movingly atmospheric experience. On Thursday 15th October we have 'From Tewkesbury To Norway' (Medieval Euro Supply Chain) presented by Steve Goodchild, which will be followed on Thursday 19th November with 'On Top Of The Tide' - river photos from Jon Talbot and John Dixon. Both meetings start at 7.45pm. Because of Government COVID-19 restrictions, all public meetings will be held online using Zoom technology. Tewkesbury YMCA Railway Society are up and running again, with a series of socially distanced meetings happening in the autumn. All events are being held at the YMCA in Church Street, starting at 7.45pm. COVID-19 restrictions apply, and latest details/updates can be found on the club’s website www.tymcars.co.uk Presentations on the run up to Christmas will be by members of the society. Bryan Boskett entertains on Tuesday 6th October, with well-known local photographer Jack Boskett taking the stage on 20th October. 3rd November will be a members’ night (with slides, DVDs and memory sticks welcome) and on 17th November Ian Boskett will be the presenter. On 1st December it’s Mike Wathen’s turn, and a party is planned for Tuesday 15th December.
