Rising to the Challenge: Ten Gav's Response Since October 7

Following the events of October 7, it quickly became evident that Ten Gav’s giving model was more relevant than ever. We transitioned from a one-to-one approach to one-to-many, launching an Emergency Relief Fund, scaling efforts, and forging new partnerships to support targeted populations.

In response to October 7 and the ongoing conflict, Ten Gav expanded its programming to include:

Healing and Hope: Our Partnership with Netanya

Since 2020, Ten Gav has provided basic needs for vulnerable families in partnership with the Netanya Social Services. After October 7, our partnership expanded to meet urgent community needs. With Ten Gav’s support, Netanya’s El Yam Resort housed 550 evacuees from Kiryat Shmona, Ashkelon, and beyond.

Ten Gav also aided Nova festival survivors living in and around Netanya. In March 2024, we launched a 12-month support program for 40 young survivors, later expanding to 60. Now extended through 2025, the program provides rent and tuition assistance, psychological therapies, and group activities, with ongoing support from Netanya Social Services.

Standing with Reservist Families

In October 2024, Ten Gav launched efforts to support reservist families with basic needs and financial assistance, aiming to help them navigate the ongoing challenges and avoid dependency on social services.

By this time, many reservists were on their third round of service. While many families faced little financial disruption due to government compensation, independent business owners often struggled as their absence disrupted operations. In dual-income households, some mothers were forced to reduce work hours due to their spouse's service, affecting household income. Families already in economic distress were particularly vulnerable.

Shifting from a responsive to a proactive approach, Ten Gav partnered with Hamal Hanoch Daum, HaOgen, and The Reservists Wives Forum to launch a six-week pilot program in mid-November. In December alone, 40 families received emergency assistance, including household appliances, beds, winter clothing and financial support

Each partner plays a key role: Hamal Hanoch Daum receives referrals from the Army's social services division, while HaOgen and The Reservists Wives Forum rely on volunteers directly supporting families on the home front. Our streamlined application process ensures quick and efficient assistance without burdening applicants.

Natalie and Yoav, parents of six young children, have struggled financially this past year. Since October 7, Yoav has served over 300 days in reserve duty. His government stipend is lower than his electrician salary, and Natalie’s nursing home hours have been reduced due to increased responsibilities at home. Ten Gav helped by covering their children's school tuition and after-school program fees.

Looking ahead, Ten Gav plans to expand this initiative into a comprehensive program, incorporating new partnerships and continuing support for reservist families through 2025 and beyond.

Vivi Mann: “Receiving a household appliance, bed, or financial grant can be the difference between a struggling family stabilizing or reaching a breaking point. Modest support often helps families regain stability, preventing financial ruin and its ripple effects, including mental health challenges and household stress.”

Caring for Vulnerable Populations in Kiryat Shmona

By early 2024, it became clear that around 400 elderly and vulnerable residents, including those reliant on oxygen or dialysis, would remain in Kiryat Shmona despite the city’s evacuation.

Led by Tal Orpaz of Ten Gav Social Services Partnerships, we partnered with Rabbi Yigal Tzipori, a local Chabad community leader and one of the few residents who stayed behind, to provide direct support.

Through Ten Gav’s Emergency Relief Fund, essential supplies such as radiators, generators, and refrigerators were delivered to those sheltering under difficult conditions. These large-scale deliveries had an immediate positive impact on residents' well-being.

In December, Co-Founders Vivi Mann and Naomi Brounstein visited Kiryat Shmona to assess the city’s condition and hear from Rabbi Tzipori and city officials about the community’s experience and needs.

Ten Gav remains committed to supporting Kiryat Shmona’s vulnerable populations in 2025.

“Thank you to Ten Gav for essential items benefiting Kiryat Shmona residents, including generators, clothes dryers, washing machines, fridges, toaster ovens, hotplates, kettles, and electric urns.”

Rabbi Yigal Tzipori, Chabad Kiryat Shmona:

Summer and After-School Support for At-Risk Children

Thanks to the generous support of donors to Ten Gav’s Emergency Relief Fund, Israeli children impacted by the war were given opportunities to simply enjoy being kids during summer vacation. Many came from single-parent or working families for whom maintaining jobs in August is challenging without subsidized programs.

In 2024, Ten Gav funded summer camps and pool memberships for children in 11 cities, including war-affected areas like Netivot, Dimona, and Ofakim.

With formal education ending early, children often faced long, unstructured afternoons that could negatively affect their wellbeing. Ten Gav also supported year-long after-school care and healthy lunches for 23 children in Beit Shean and 30 children in Harish, many from reservist families.

Looking ahead, Ten Gav remains committed to supporting children from families in need with summer programs and after-school care in 2025.

“This gift was a ray of sunshine to families who could not afford summer camps during this complex time.”

Shining a Light on Vulnerable Families in Harish

In 2024, Ten Gav established a partnership with the Harish Department of Social Services to support the city’s growing population, including many young reservist families. During a visit to Harish, Ten Gav staff met with Mayor Yitzhak Keshet and social services representatives to explore ways to address the community’s challenges.

With many fathers and husbands serving extended reserve duty, families faced heightened difficulties throughout the year. In 2024, we provided critical support for vulnerable children in Harish, including:

Summer day camps and pool passes for 175 children

A 3-day camp during Yom Kippur and Sukkot for 41 children

Year-long after-school care for 30 children

Beds for 50 children

Ten Gav plans to continue supporting Harish families in 2025.

Sharon Shukri, Social Worker, Harish:

“For children exposed to dangerous situations and spending long hours at home, access to after-school care is invaluable.”

The Ten Gav Bed Fund: Beds for Israeli Children in Need

Naomi and Vivi established the Ten Gav Bed Fund in 2021 to address the difficult reality that thousands of Israeli children lack a bed of their own. Many sleep on worn out mattresses, outgrown beds, the floor, the sofa, or share a bed with others. T leading request from social services to Ten Gav is for beds. They named 2023 Th of the Bed, streamlined the request process, and approached specific cities to of large case requests.

Over the past four years, Ten Gav has provided more than 2,600 beds at a tota of over 5 million ILS (1.37 million USD) primarily to children.

This year Michal and Barak from Ofakim, parents to five young children, receive pull-out triple bunk bed from Ten Gav. Their youngest child has Down's Syndrom and Barak suffers from PTSD from his time in the army. Until recently, four of th children slept on old single beds which did not leave any room for a closet. They describe the arrival of the triple bunk bed as "truly a lifesaver!"

Course Tuitions Improve Self-Esteem and Employment Potential

Education and skills training improve lives by enhancing self-esteem and employment potential. At Ten Gav, we prioritize funding course tuition for those who stand to benefit most—ranging from short-term courses in bookkeeping or nail artistry to university degrees. This year, we have supported a growing number of active soldiers and reservists, helping them balance their responsibilities amid personal and financial challenges.

Since October 7, domestic violence referrals to Ten Gav from social service agencies have risen, reflecting national trends. We assist women transitioning out of domestic violence shelters a critical time when they are at high risk of returning to abusive relationships. By providing course tuitions and job skills training, we empower them to build safe, independent lives for themselves and their children.

In 2024, we helped Adaya from Ofakim with tuition for her criminology degree. A single mother raising a child with special needs, she shared:

"Your support was not only financial but also a source of strength and encouragement during a challenging time. It helped me believe in myself and my ability to achieve my goals. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

Empowering At-Risk Youth in Jerusalem

In 2024, Ten Gav funded a Magen David Adom First Aid Training (EMT) program for 16 at-risk young adults in Jerusalem, in partnership with the Department for the Advancement of Youth (Jerusalem Municipality) and the Center for Training, Employment, and Legal Counseling.

The six-month part-time course provided participants, aged 18-26, with essential life-saving skills and valuable job training.

Additionally, in 2024 Ten Gav provided 10 laptops and 19 course tuition grants to vulnerable individuals in Jerusalem. Looking ahead, Ten Gav plans to continue supporting people in need in the city throughout 2025.

In2024,wedistributedgoodsandservices valuedat150,184ILS(41,384USD)toassist at-riskyouthandvulnerablefamiliesin Jerusalem.

Sharon Friedman, Social Worker, Department for the Advancement of Youth:

“Ten Gav fills a vital niche by offering support where others do not. This assistance has a tremendous impact on our clients it’s like oxygen to breathe.”

Staying Connected Through Challenging Times

Laptop computers remain one of Ten Gav’s most requested items, providing critical access to remote education, social support networks, and essential learning resources. They enhance independence, improve learning outcomes, and help reduce isolation.

In 2024, Ten Gav distributed laptops to:

104 financially challenged reserve soldier students and evacuees at Bar-Ilan University

40 children who lost first-responder parents during the war, in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters Israel

7 wounded soldiers at Tel Hashomer Hospital’s rehabilitation center

19 individuals in need, including single mothers, at-risk youth, and ill adults

Ten Gav remains committed to providing laptops to those in need throughout 2025.

In2024,wedistributed212laptopsvaluedat 287,258ILS(79,113USD).

Professor Amnon Albeck, Rector, Bar-Ilan University:

“Thank you for providing our students with computers this is a life-changing contribution. Without this support, many would have been forced to quit their studies and lose an entire year.”
