The notion of Jewish Peoplehood encompasses Judaism as a civilization with a collective story, religion, culture, language, ethical tradition, and dedication to community. Our goal in presenting this series is to strengthen the connection between Jews around the world.

Guest Speaker: Sinai’s Own, Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich

Marking four years since the invasion of Ukraine

Dr. Grigoriy Mashkevich is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with advanced fellowship training from UCLA Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed residency training in head and neck surgery at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary. His sub-specialty training at UCLA focused on complex facial reconstruction and cosmetic surgery, with particular emphasis on cancer-related facial repair and cosmetic surgery of the aging face and nose.

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Dr. Mashkevich felt a personal and professional responsibility to contribute his surgical expertise following the onset of the war. His first humanitarian mission took place in September 2022, approximately six months into the conflict. Since that time, he has participated in and helped establish multiple missions focused on reconstructive care for war-injured patients, with a growing emphasis on education and skills transfer to local physicians. In March, he will return to Lviv for his fifth medical mission, continuing a sustained commitment to care, collaboration, and long-term impact.

Shalom! My name is Galia Shahin, and I will be teaching Conversational Hebrew for Adults. I am Israeli born and raised and have been teaching Hebrew for over twenty years. In every class, we are going to review the Hebrew alphabet and learn to read words and short sentences, utilizing the Hebrew vowels. In addition, we are going to engage in conversational Hebrew, learning words and phrases for everyday use. If you are traveling to Israel with Rabbi White, want to listen to Israeli news, or simply want to converse like a Tzabar, come join us and let’s learn Hebrew!

Morah Shahin, who is one of our wonderful Religious School teachers, will be at the helm for 18 one-hour sessions, on assorted Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm. Classes begin on October 29 and run through May.

History remembers Marcel Marceau as the world’s greatest mime. But before the spotlight, he was a young man in Nazi-occupied France, guiding Jewish children to safety with nothing but courage and imagination. In the shadows of World War II, Marcel on the Train reveals the man behind the invisible mask.

Co-written by and starring Tony Award® nominee Ethan Slater (SpongeBob SquarePants, Wicked), this inventive new play shows us how, sometimes, the loudest resistance begins in the most quiet places.

Adult Engagement has secured a limited number of tickets for the March 4th performance at the group rate price of $52 each. Transportation is not included.
