LA PLATA HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEETING The 59th Annual La Plata High School Alumni Association Meeting will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the La Plata High School Gymnasium. Registration and visiting with classmates and friends will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 8:00. This year tours of the Olive Gilbreth McLorn Historical Home will also be available that evening. Classes having reunions will be recognized during the meeting as well as special guests. Please make plans to attend the 59th Annual La Plata High School Alumni Meeting and renew old friendships and make new ones.

OUTDOOR WEATHER WARNINGS Because of weather conditions on Friday (April 27, 2012), out door sirens were not tested. They will be tested this Friday (May 4, 2012) at 10:00 a.m., weather permitting.

TROOP B OFFICERS TO CONDUCT DWI ENFORCEMENT Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces that sometime during the month of April and May 2012, Troop B officers will conduct DWI enforcement operations in Adair and Shelby counties. During these operations, extra troopers will focus their attention on selected highways with a goal of detecting intoxicated drivers, and hazardous moving, speed, and other traffic violations that cause traffic crashes. “The Patrol is committed to removing intoxicated drivers from our highways,” stated Captain Wilt. “I would like to urge all motorists to choose a sober designated driver if drinking alcohol is a part of your plans.”

Meet MSHP Troop B Canine Cop ... Justo Trooper Adams and canine Justo officially began their Patrol duties together on November 7, 2011. The new canine team is being utilized throughout the Troop B area for olfactory drug searches, and searches for criminal suspects and missing persons. Justo is a 66 lb. German Shepherd from Holland, Justo is residing with his partner.

Brashear Enrichment Program Clean Up School Third and fourth grade students at Brashear Elementary proudly display some of their recent trash finds. Students were happy to practice good citizenship by cleaning up the school grounds as an enrichment activity. Qualifying students participate in 30 minutes of enrichment two times a week. They must achieve 80% or above accuracy on a targeted skill in communication arts. The program has been popular with the kids this year. Mrs. Christy Grissom and Mrs. Betty Stephens are this year’s enrichment leaders. CHURCH GROUP ATTENDS CONFERENCE Church WithOut Walls sent a group of four ladies to the “Women of Joy” Conference in Louisville, KY. The event was held on Friday, March 30 to Sunday, April 1, 2012. Marla Gander of Macon, Pam Sampson of Macon, Penny Danner of Macon and Erica Baker of Atlanta all attended the weekend retreat sponsored by Church WithOut Walls. The theme of the weekend was “Come walk with us,” as the women learned ways to be refreshed and encouraged by nationally-known speakers and artists including headliner Chris Tomlin along with Kay Arthur, Thelma Wells, Anita Renfroe, Angela Thomas, Charles Billingsley and Christy Nockels. Food Drive will be Saturday, May 12th in La Plata. The Oklahoma Indians 4-H Club will be volunteering to help pick up donations. Please have all your non-perishable food items on the curb in front of your home by 8:30 a.m.
