ITALIAN TECHNOLOGY FOR THE
FOOD & BEVERAGE INDUSTRY
A successful event for Africa’s evolving food economy
Africa Food Show 2026 returns amid Africa’s expanding $ 1 trillion food and beverage market
Africa’s food and beverage sector is entering a defining growth phase.
Valued at approximately $346 billion in 2024, the continent’s F&B market is projected to reach approximately $567 billion (R9 trillion) by 2032, with longerterm projections placing the broader opportunity at nearly $1 trillion (R16 trillion) by 2030.
Driven by rapid urbanization, population expansion, retail modernization and shifting consumer demand, Africa’s food economy is evolving at pace. Rising incomes, a growing middle class and a young, globally connected consumer base are reshaping purchasing habits and accelerating demand for premium, healthfocused, convenience and value-added products.
At the same time, structural pressures remain significant. Hunger is rising in Africa, where more than one in five people are affected. If current trends continue, as many as 512 million people could face hunger by 2030, nearly 60 percent of them in Africa. These realities highlight the urgency of innovation in food processing, pricing, logistics and distribution.
Against this context of both opportunity and structural pressure, Africa Food Show 2026 returns to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from the 10th – 12th of June 2026, strategically positioned as Africa’s leading food and beverage sourcing platform where growth meets solutions.
The three-day exhibition connects retailready food and beverage suppliers,
manufacturers, distributors and technology providers with senior buyers, wholesalers, importers, exporters, hospitality groups and procurement leaders from across Africa and beyond. By bringing together more than 350 local and international exhibitors and over 8,000 industry professionals from 60+ countries, the show provides a structured platform for sourcing, deal-making, partnership development and expansion into African markets.
“Africa’s F&B sector is brimming with opportunity amid rapid urbanization, retail transformation and growing consumer demand,” says Margaret Peters, Event Director at dmg events. “But sustained growth depends on stronger connections across the value chain. Africa Food Show 2026 is where suppliers, buyers and industry leaders come together to unlock new partnerships, strengthen route-tomarket strategies and drive measurable business growth.”
Following a 21-year legacy as Africa’s Big 7, the event was rebranded in 2025 as Africa Food Show, marking a strategic evolution aligned with the changing needs of the market. The inaugural edition under its new identity welcomed nearly 350 global exhibitors and more than 9,000 industry
professionals from over 60 countries. The 2026 edition will once again be colocated with Hotel & Hospitality Expo Africa, reflecting the structural link

The innovative process technologies of CLM Bakery System pizza lines give you unique selling points in your market;
- Open texture great alveolation
- Melt in the mouth texture – i.e. not tough/chewy especially on the rim
- Great flavor
- Greater enzyme conversion of starch to sugars - leads to better colouration / rustic look and feel without a heavy bake
- Digestibility/ lightness of eat
- Reduced yeast levels
- Crispness through life (retention of outer shell crispness).
Nowadays, we are used to seeing pizza baked in electric or gas ovens, but we should not forget that the real Italian pizza was created in 1889 in Naples with the characteristic of being baked in wood-fired oven at 450°C for no longer than 60 to 90 seconds.
CLM Vesuvio wood-fired tunnel oven for pizza now offers all the advantages of traditional wood baking with direct flame, allowing the best handmade quality to be achieved in industrial pizza production.
CLM Vesuvio wood-fired tunnel ovens are completely built in stone and refractory material and thanks to these materials, CLM
Vesuvio accumulates and emits heat uniformly, guaranteeing the best baking stability for any type of product and giving you the possibility to bring in your market the real Italian wood-fired pizza baked in a stone oven with the smokes embracing the product.
At the same time the automatic wood loading, with different kinds of woods, such as logs, briquettes, and pellets, guarantees you high productivity and energy efficiency.
Not only wood is a renewable form of energy but you have also the possibility to improve the carbon footprint of your products baking carbon neutral.
Between the proving and the baking, there are various processes involved in preparing the pizza, which must be carried out using high quality equipment as to ensure a finished product that complies with the reputation that Italian pizza has built up all over the world.
CLM bakery System can offer you the innovative hot pressing system and the crossing lamination.
In the CLM Bakery System hot pressing system, the dough balls are picked up by servo controlled mechanical hands and transferred onto the plates of the hot press conveyor with precision. Upper and lower plates are heated by a controlled electrical resistance system, which always keeps them at the ideal operating temperature.
The pressing plates are also shaped in such a way as to obtain the preferred pizza shape. By changing the shape, it is very easy to move from a flat pizza to a thick crust or rimmed one.
After the hot press step, the bases are picked up off the conveyor by a second manipulator, with vacuum-operated pick-up heads, and then placed onto the conveyor belt direction oven.
The hot pressing carried out by the CLM Bakery System procedure allows an even crispier pizza base to be obtained, so that the base absorbs the wetness of the tomato to a lesser extent, hence
consistently improving the finished product.
As an alternative to the hot pressing CLM Bakery System offers you the crossing lamination: two laminators receive the proved dough balls and make them into oval shapes, which are lined up and handled by a dedicated phasing system. A retractable conveyor then gently transfers the ovals, creating a direction change. The ovals move through the third and fourth laminator, which creates the typical round shape. Flour dusters make sure a thin layer of flour is dusted to avoid dough sticking.

Innovative technological solutions that involve many packaging and packing aspects
Mondo & Scaglione was founded in Canelli (the capital of Asti Spumante) in 1969, since then the company has been designing and building packaging machines.
At the beginning, Mondo & Scaglione worked especially for local wineries producing sparkling wines around its area (Gancia, Bosca, Riccadonna, Cinzano, Martini & Rossi…); these companies needed a local manufacturing company able to build case packers, case erectors, and palletizers, the so-called “end of line” machines as an alternative to German machine manufacturers that were dominating the market at the time.
After a few years from its establishment, Mondo & Scaglione spread its presence not only all over Italy but also to the foreign markets. Today, Mondo & Scaglione has customers all over the world and exports more than 85% of its manufactured machines. Thanks to this success, it has widened its market presence addressing not only its core business (wine and spirits) but also the beverage, food and chemical markets with machines that feature innovative technological solutions.
Mondo & Scaglione designs and manufactures all its machines entirely in-house, starting from the mechanical and electronic engineering, right through parts and components manufacturing for final assembly.
Besides the Design Office and the Electronic Office, Mondo & Scaglione has also a Welding Department to build in-house machine frames, and a Tooling Machines Department for the manufacturing of all the components that will be assembled on the machines.
Moreover, Mondo & Scaglione has also an important Electrical Department to create electrical cabinets and to completely wire in-house the machines, as well an assembly department that enables assembling the mechanical parts of the machines before testing and start-up before shipments.
In general, installation, start-up and commissioning of Mondo & Scaglione machines are operated by its specialized service engineers.
The company has also an after-sales and spare parts department suitable to help the customers worldwide supplying the necessary parts and components it keeps in its inventory or
supporting them by phone, e-mail or via remote access to the machines PLC.
Mondo & Scaglione is a dynamic company that does not only build standard machines for its customers, but it also tries to understand customer’s requirements as to propose a tailored technological solution upon the product to handle, space available, and required production speed.
Flexibility is for sure one of the major features that Mondo & Scaglione is recognized on the market for, and for this reason it often manufactures “special” machines upon its customers’ needs.
That requires a strong “team effort” with engineers constantly exchanging ideas, as well as the considerable experience that Mondo & Scaglione can count on as a company that has been on the market for more than 50 years, a peculiarity that is hardly to be found in other companies of the sector.
In a few words, thanks to its experience and know-how gained in more than 50 years, the flexibility and strong motivation to always find new technical challenges, Mondo & Scaglione sees its future bright always looking for new market opportunities.

For butternut squash lines: innovation in food processing with PND
“The fresh butternut squash market is expected to grow from USD 2.89 billion in 2025 to USD 2.99 billion in 2026 and is forecast to reach USD 3.53 billion by 2031. This growth is driven by a shift in demand from whole-fruit sales to processed formats, functional ingredients and industrial feedstocks”, according to market analysis by Mordor Intelligence. At PND, they are always in step with market trends. PND offers a wide range of machines for butternut squash processing, which can be configured into production lines that are perfectly tailored to customers’ needs.
Let’s take a detailed look at these.
The PREP-WASH, a washer equipped with a recirculation pump and a water filtering system, is a specific tool for washing fresh fruit. A stream of water pushes the fruit, which is moved by the bubbling motion, onto a modular conveyor belt that allows the fruit to be treated in water.
Then comes the PL1DZ, a peeler also available with 2 and 4 stations, which ensures smooth and uniform peeling, even with non-calibrated or irregularly sized products, thanks to adjustment functions on the spindle and blade.
The operator manually loads the fruit into the dedicated holder, where a mechanical system peels the outside carefully and accurately. The larger structure means that taller fruits can be processed while
maintaining the same performance and quality standards. All components are easily interchangeable and the parts in contact with the product are food-grade certified.
The semi-automatic wedger, PWS, made of AISI 304 stainless steel and exclusively mechanical, is very easy to maintain and clean. The operator loads the fruit by pressing two buttons and activating the cutting head. It is possible to cut 4 to 6 slices, depending on requirements, which end up on the output belts without affecting their physical and organoleptic integrity. The machine is equipped with two output belts that move the product along to the next stage.
The optional AIRCUBE chunker, which processes 6 units per minute, is designed for cutting into cubes of various sizes, offering a robust and precise solution. With its reinforced structure and crossblade system, the machine ensures a clean uniform cut. The operator manually loads the butternut squash into the dedicated housing, where the push mechanism guides the product through the cutting grid and turns it into chunks.
The interchangeable blades allow the cube size to be adjusted according to production needs, making it ready to be packaged or further processed. This chunker tackles one of the most complex problems in the industry: how to ensure uniform cutting of a vegetable with a hard skin, compact and fibrous flesh and often irregular and elongated dimensions.
Measuring less than a metre, the machine is made entirely of stainless steel and all parts in contact with the product are food-grade certified, ensuring safety and hygiene throughout the process.
Let’s move on to the brand new PND machine: the SEEDY. Small and compact, this machine is designed to remove seeds and filaments from the butternut squash, after cutting it lengthwise in half or opening it from the bottom. It is a single-head machine that processes about 10 units per minute and is equipped with a tool that is activated by light pressure combined with a foot pedal safety system. It has a removable hopper for ease of cleaning and sanitising, and a washing system that may be used, if necessary, during processing.
PND butternut squash lines are now in demand across all continents, with the highest sales being in England, Spain, Switzerland, the USA and Italy. In the case of the latter, we should mention Azienda Agricola Don Camillo, located in Brescello

SMI solutions for Blendcor
The need to increase productivity and
ensure efficiency and quality within the packaging lines of rectangular 5L PVC jerry cans containing lubricating oil, led Blendcor to invest in the purchase of new wrap-around case packers with advanced technological content.
SMI, thanks to the support of its local partner Caltech Agencies, provided the customer with a functional and competitive packaging solution, consisting of a DV 500 series divider, an LWP 30 ERGON wrap-around case packer and conveyor belts serving the two machines. To monitor and improve the production efficiency of the plant, SMI also provided a dedicated software that manages the communications between the DV 500 divider, the weight controller and product evacuation system installed upstream of the divider. Thanks to this management, the lubricant jerry cans that do not fall within the weight parameters defined by Blendcor are automatically conveyed to a third row of belts, so that the operator can subsequently pick them up and reject them, to avoid them being packed in
cardboard boxes. The jerry cans that have the correct weight are distributed on the two rows of conveyor belts at the infeed of the LWP 30 ERGON case packer, to be packed in wrap-around cardboard boxes in a 2x2 format.

• simplified maintenance operations.
The role of partners
Blendcor attributes a key role to all partners who, by working with the company to maintain high quality and safety standards, contribute to its economic development, the creation of the value chain and market competitiveness.
The collaboration with SMI is part of this context and contributes to the achievement of Blendcor’s objectives. Thanks to SMI’s long experience in the field of packaging and the supply of state-of-the-art machines, the Durbanbased company ensures the appropriate packaging to preserve the quality of its products and their competitiveness on the market.
The first collaboration between Blendcor and SMI dates back to 1997 with the supply of a shrinkwrapper of the APET series for the packaging of 0.5 L steel cans in the 5x2 film only format and an AF 432 B model shrinkwrapper for the subsequent “repacking” in 4x4 film only formats. Over the years the collaboration has been consolidated and in 2002 SMI supplied a WP 300 XL wrap-around case packer, a DV 200 divider/channeler and conveyor belts to process 3 different types of 5 litre HDPE jerry cans in wraparound cardboard boxes in the 1x3 and 1x4 format.
The solutions adopted by SMI for Industry 5.0
SMI manufactures fully automated and ergonomic systems for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging, userfriendly and able to interconnect in digital networks. This makes it possible to increase the flexibility and efficiency of production, as well as an accurate control of the consumption of the machines, fully meeting the current criteria of Industry 4.0 and the new ones of Industry 5.0. Thanks to the digital intelligence with which they are equipped, the latest generation of SMI machines can benefit from the SMYIOT platform, which has the task of collecting all the operating and life cycle data of the same, allowing them to be verified, processed and enhanced. In 2024, ZACMI joined the ProMach Group, a global leader with over 50 brands offering solutions across the entire production line, further strengthening its position in the international market.
ZACMI delivers technologically advanced solutions tailored to customer needs and focused on production efficiency, backed by a highly skilled team and a service-driven, forward-looking vision.
Machinery and solutions
ZACMI’s portfolio is supported by extensive research and development and spans from standalone units to fully integrated processing lines.
Filling
ZACMI’s filling machines are designed to deliver precision, efficiency, and versatility:
• Piston fillers: accurate dosing for liquid and viscous products (with or without suspended solids), with a patented system designed to ensure uniform distribution and prevent dripping.
• Vacuum fillers: airtight filling to preserve quality and freshness, suitable for topping up containers pre-filled with solids or completely filling containers with thick products.
• Telescopic fillers: rapid, precise filling for bottles, cans and other containers, minimising waste while maximising accuracy.
• Monoblocks: compact systems integrating rinsing, filling and closing to optimise space and productivity.
• Be-Fill (beverage): ZACMI has expanded into beverage canning with Be-Fill, an electronic volumetric rotary filler for cans, unveiled at drinktec 2025. Be-Fill is designed for products from 2 °C to 90 °C (beer and carbonated drinks, energy drinks, juices and
still products), scalable from 50 to 128 filling valves and matched with a 6–12 head seamer. It supports fast changeovers (including 200 to 206 can-ends) and processes aluminium or steel cans from 80 to 200 mm tall. Synchronisation is managed via a brushless drive, while the electronic volumetric system supports repeatable dosing with minimal waste. Hygiene and uptime are supported by an external buffer tank fed via a centrifugal pump (reducing product hold-up), filling valves fixed with two screws and no external pneumatic connections, and optional liquid nitrogen dosing for producers targeting extended shelf-life.
Seamers
Recently, ZACMI introduced a new seaming machine designed to improve industry standards. With a compact design, simplified maintenance, and reduced operational costs, this innovative seamer enhances flexibility and efficiency while maintaining ZACMI’s hallmark of robust performance. Its modular design minimises downtime, simplifies spare part management, and ensures faster maintenance—setting a new benchmark in seaming technology.
Other standout models include:
• Clean design seamers: Fully washable systems that meet stringent hygiene standards, reduce handling costs, and facilitate maintenance.
• Vacuum seamers: Advanced solutions that prevent contamination, preserve product integrity, and extend shelf life.
• Additionally, ZACMI seamers offer flexible configurations to adapt to specific customer requirements, ensuring high-quality productivity.
