AN OPTIMIST IN LIFE AND IN REAL ESTATE
Whitney Gesch has proven that energy and persistence conquer all things. Her life experiences have made her into a fighter and a believer, reminding her that there’s a lesson in every event, while her tenacity to see the good in difficult situations has kept her moving forward in life and as a top-producing real estate agent. “I think my life experiences have made me into a very empathetic person and into someone who always tries to find the best in people,” Whitney explained.
Through Whitney’s help and support, her father eventually got sober and stayed clean for the last five years of his life. Sadly, six years ago, he died from a sudden heart attack. Thankfully, Whitney’s mom, Jill, her stepfather, Steve, and her brother Joe were there to support her through all of these troubling times and give her the love, support and drive to keep pushing through. “During those years, I could’ve easily fallen into a depression or acted out in self-destruction,” she explained. “I fought my way through those days, and I’m stronger because of it. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss my dad. I think he’d be very proud of my accomplishments.”
When Whitney was 12 years old, she lost her 36-year-old stepmother to cancer. “My stepmom owned a hair salon and was loved by everyone in our town. Losing her at such a critical time in my childhood was really difficult,” Whitney admitted. Whitney’s father took her stepmother’s death particularly hard, and as a result, became addicted to pain medication and benzodiazepines. “I had to grow up really fast, and quickly became a survivor,” Whitney recalled. “I spent the following 20 years of my life trying to help my dad get sober and manage his entire life.” 14 • May 2022

For Evaluation. https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio Whitney’s journey to real estate success has defined her as a person and as a professional. “Helping people and seeing them happy is what defines me and gives me purpose and energy,” she said. Prior to her real estate career, Whitney was a cosmetologist and educator for Aveda. She was originally drawn to real estate after she purchased her first home. While she was thrilled to be a first-time homeowner, Whitney felt confident that she had the skills and enthusiasm to improve the buying experience. “I knew there had to be a better way of doing things, so I decided I would create that better experience myself,” she said. However, it wasn’t until her neighbor Sue Kroes, who was a real estate agent, insisted that Whitney would be great as a real estate professional that she decided to commit herself to the idea and get her license in 2015. Over the course of three years, Whitney transitioned from her work in cosmetology and her responsibilities as a stayat-home mom to a full-time agent in 2018. Since that time, she has achieved a sales career volume of over $40 million — $15 million of which she obtained in 2021. Whitney also established the Whitney Gesch Real Estate Group in 2021. She brought on a transaction coordinator, Malinda Mitchell, and a buyer’s agent, Alisia O’Driscoll. Whitney considers her preferred lender, Chris Kapas with U.S. Bank, as part of her team as well. “Having a rock star lender who is always responsive and always closing has helped my career immensely,” Whitney said.

For Evaluation. https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio Above any sales number, Whitney is most passionate about the connections she makes with people. “The majority of my business today is repeat clients and referrals,” she said. “Nurturing those relationships is what is most important, and quite frankly, the most rewarding.” Recently, Whitney’s biggest challenge is educating her clients about the homebuying process, specifically during uncertain market trends. “It’s an ongoing task to help buyers understand that the list price is not necessarily the market value,” she said. “Currently, it’s very difficult to be a buyer right now, and therefore, it’s super important that upfront conversations are filled with a lot of information on the market so that there are honest and clear expectations.” The key to Whitney’s success has been her focus on keeping her business about the people. “I work hard for everyone — family, clients, friends and colleagues,” she said. “I give 100% of myself to everyone around me, while at the same time, I lean on others when it’s needed. If I don’t know the answer to something, I ask for help. I find that successful agents are always willing to share their expertise and help, and in the end, that support benefits my clients.” In 2021, Whitney had her biggest sales year in her career. She said the reason for her achievement was the result of her shift in mindset and a change in brokerages to Keller Williams Advantage. “I realized that

I also realized this past year that the sale isn’t about the next notch on my board: It’s about the client’s happiness,” she said. “As I learned early in my life, there’s always a lesson to be learned, and knowing that is what makes me stronger and more fulfilled. I’m now in a great place to regroup, re-energize and stay focused so that I can keep myself, my family and my clients happy.” Like so many real estate agents, Whitney strives to find a good worklife balance. “I work from the moment I wake up until I go to bed every day,” she explained. “Finding the balance between family and work is something I need to refine and is definitely something that I know will benefit my business and my family.” Whitney and her husband, Earl, enjoy traveling, dining out for dinner, going to the theater and watching movies — both are avid Star Wars and Marvel enthusiasts. Together, they have a son, Anakin, 9, and a French bulldog, Thanos. Whitney also finds time to go to the gym, golf and relax with an occasional massage. “My family is the most important part of my day, every day,” she shared. “Without the love, support and encouragement from them, I would not be where I am today.” “I feel like real estate is a roller coaster ride,” Whitney said. “I’m just living in the moment and enjoying the ride — as long as the ride remains fun and fulfilling.”

Rachel Reaves worked in the service industry for 18 years before she decided to get out of her comfort zone three years ago and start something new. It turned out to be the best decision of her life.
Rachel realized that she had an incredible interest in homes — everything from historical and architectural features to layout, design and renovations — after she purchased her house in 2011. “I knew I somehow wanted to be involved in real estate,” she recalled. “Then one day, while leaving my previous job, I heard an advertisement on the radio for a real estate school near me, and the idea of a career move popped in my mind. Even though I was happy where I was in life, I immediately signed up for the class because I wanted something more challenging.” After Rachel acquired her real estate license, she joined the team at RE/MAX Cornerstone. Today, she’s successfully running her business at RE/MAX Leading Edge. Her very first transaction was helping a good friend purchase her first home. “It felt absolutely amazing, and from that point on, I was addicted to real estate,” she said. Prior to her real estate career, Rachel was a server at an airport for most of her adult life. She was very involved with her union and had the highest regard for customer service. Her years of having a “client-first” mentality was far greater than any education and has since become a hallmark in every transaction. “My focus on first-class service has rewarded me with referral business and lasting relationships well beyond the closing table,” Rachel said. “I try to ensure that my clients have the best possible experience and to anticipate each of their individual needs ahead of time. It’s a huge deal to finally cross the finish line because, for most, buying a home is the biggest purchase of their lives and a huge milestone, and it melts my heart to be a part of it.” Since the age of 17, Rachel has been on her own. Her independence quickly taught her life lessons and how to be self-reliant. “I turned my challenges into personal achievements,” she said. “My experiences instilled a strong work ethic and an acute understanding for perseverance, benefiting both my clients and business.”

For Evaluation. https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio The greatest influence in Rachel’s life has been her mother, Gerianne, who Rachel said is the closest thing to a saint. “My mother is the hardest working woman I know,” Rachel said proudly. “She is tenacious and takes great pride in everything she does, even the simplest of tasks.” Rachel’s mother was originally diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013 and is battling cancer for the third time. “My whole outlook on life changed when my mom got sick. It puts things into perspective in a major way, and I never take a day for granted.” When Rachel’s father passed away in 2018, it encouraged her to work even harder and set her goals higher. “I know I’ve made him proud,” she said. Currently, Rachel is most passionate about helping buyers who feel they cannot qualify as homeowners. “As a single mom, I understand firsthand how hard it is to purchase a home,” she said. “Homeownership was once a dream I thought I would never achieve, and therefore, it’s an amazing feeling when I can provide the necessary tools to others to actually make homeownership a reality — those are some of my favorite transactions.”

Because Rachel loves what she does, her biggest challenge is finding a balance between her worklife and her homelife. “I enjoy what I do so much that it is hard to turn it off sometimes,” she said. “I find myself at family functions searching the MLS, scheduling showings or writing contracts, but when you love what you do, it never feels like work.”
When Rachel is not working, she’s usually checking out the latest restaurants with friends, paddle boarding or heading to yoga with her 19-year-old son, Erick, who is pursuing a career in HVAC with possible plans to later work alongside Rachel in real estate.
“In my real estate career, I hope I leave a lasting impact that reflects my caring and hardworking personality,” Rachel said. “I’ve always been driven to work with integrity and sincerity. It’s in my nature to help people and always follow through on my word.” Rachel’s authenticity is genuine, heartfelt and consistent among all of her clients. “No matter what kind of transaction I’m working on, everyone is guaranteed the same high-level experience,” she explained. “In this business, relationships matter most, so just be yourself and people will gravitate toward you.” 22 • May 2022

Nicole Elizabeth Yaeger approaches her real estate business in a very simple way: She answers the phone, follows through on her word, treats every transaction as if it was her own and has a sense of urgency about everything. Her ability to find solutions, connect with clients and partners, and not overcomplicate things has quickly put her at the top of her game. She is currently aligned with eXp Realty and running her business as Nicole Elizabeth Real Estate. She also manages The Luxe Group within her brokerage, where she facilitates team meetings, provides leadership support and assists with creating an environment that nurtures success. “I am very ambitious by nature,” Nicole shared. “When I see there is a need to help, I jump right in.”

Prior to her career in real estate, Nicole worked as a dental assistant for 15 years. She loved her job, but she craved something more. “I never had a job where I could grow, be promoted or feel a sense of success,” she said. With the encouragement from a close friend, Nicole was introduced to the team at eXp Realty, which led to her immediately signing up for real estate classes. After she earned her license, she worked full time in both careers for nearly three years. As a single mother of two children, Nicole found it very difficult to balance life and both jobs. “I worked eight-hour days and then did real estate after work and on my days off. It was exhausting, but I made it work,” she recalled. When her dentist office shut down due to the pandemic, Nicole knew it was time to take the leap. “I depend on myself to support my family, so it was a huge decision, but I am beyond grateful that I made it happen,” she said. Real estate allows Nicole to lead and guide her clients through stressful and emotional moments in their lives. “Without a doubt, handing the keys to a brand-new homeowner is the greatest feeling in the world,” she said. “I love seeing the smile on their face and the joy in their eyes, knowing that they are proud homeowners.” Because Nicole takes such pride in working hard to relieve any transactional stressors, her greatest challenge is removing her emotions from her

Along with her drive to help her clients, Nicole is just as enthusiastic about supporting her team. “Helping people is my passion,” she said proudly. “I love teaching people how to utilize social media for leads, and I started a Facebook mastermind group where we teach agents how to maximize their businesses as well as feature amazing guest speakers. I wanted to create a safe space for agents to ask questions and seek advice. I love being able to bring value not only to our team but also to other agents nationwide. I strongly believe in community over competition.” When Nicole had kids, it pushed her to create a life she always dreamed she could have. “I wanted to show my children what hard work and determination could do,” she said. Nicole has a 14-year-old daughter, Mia, and a 10-year-old son, Adam. Together, they love to play games, go on nature walks, travel, snowboard, swim and cook. In her free time, Nicole enjoys doing graphic design, gardening, and making jewelry and art.

I take this profession seriously and know that this is not just about a paycheck: It’s about the person or family who is making a massive investment into their future.”
“As a newer agent who has seen my business take off, I think the most important thing to remember when entering this business is to not compare yourself to others,” Nicole shared. “While I saw other agents getting deal after deal, it took me six months to get my first deal under my belt. I knew that if I focused my attention on them, I was losing focus on what was most important to me — my business. Instead, I set my sights on building my brand and hitting my sphere of influence on social networks.” Nicole also stressed the importance of being consistent with social media, which she attributes to the success of her business. “Being consistent and authentic are so important,” she said. “Also, celebrating your community is one of the pillars of success. You want to be the ‘go-to’ person for all things real estate in your town — of course, that builds business, but more importantly, it builds trust and long-lasting relationships.” 32 • May 2022

Eighteen years ago, Rebecca Alley was a full-time college student, working three jobs and doing everything she could to prepare herself for a successful future in business and finance. Knowing Rebecca’s fierce drive and determination, a friend approached her about a position at a mortgage company, and without hesitation, Rebecca showed up for the interview and never looked back.
Shortly after Rebecca’s entry into the mortgage banking business was the housing market crash. In the midst of the chaos, Rebecca surrounded herself with positive influences and stayed above the “noise,” ultimately finding her voice — despite being extremely young during a scary and unpredictable time. She put her focus and commitment to her work and became a nationally ranked top 1% producer. “The crash taught me about myself, life, who I wanted to surround myself with and how I wanted to be represented,” Rebecca recalled. “I discovered the type of business I wanted to cultivate for my clients, and most importantly, the mark I wanted to leave in this industry.” After nearly 19 years in the mortgage banking industry, those feelings have not changed for Rebecca. Rather than view the housing market crash as a disappointment when she was building her business, Rebecca viewed the moment as a golden opportunity to authentically establish herself within the industry. It also changed the way mortgage companies managed their business — forcing out the not-so-great, dishonest companies and leaving the strong, ethical businesses standing. “The fall of the market pressured accountability within the industry to have better, stronger, more progressive underwriting guidelines for borrowers,” Rebecca explained. “This led to enhanced experiences and success at the closing table. Rates will always fluctuate depending on the cycle that we are in, but one thing that will never fluctuate is our ability to provide attention to detail, personal drive and passion for our clients and partners.”
As a vice president mortgage banker, Rebecca believes there’s much more to the mortgage process than numbers and dollar signs. “We find responsibility in making sure every client we meet — whether it’s for a purchase or refinance — has the proper tools and support to get them to the finish line,” she explained. “We believe that communication is key in each transaction, and treating all our clients like family creates a lasting connection like none other. We’re building more than just a mortgage: We’re building our clients a future they can depend on.” The company has been voted “Best Place to Work” by the Detroit Free Press multiple years in a row and is nationally ranked as a Top 10 lender licensed in all 50 states. Rebecca has personally earned rankings as a top 1% national mortgage originator in 20162021 and has been awarded by Scotsman Guide as a top mortgage originator. In 2022, Mortgage Women Magazine listed Rebecca as a top female loan originator in Michigan for both volume and unit sold. She is currently licensed in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina, and is working toward adding several more this year.
In 2010, Rebecca knew she had found her professional home when she joined the Capital Mortgage Funding team. “From the first moment I sat in my office, I felt like I had always been there. Whether they are purchasing a new home or refinancing their existing home, it is imperative that the experience be transparent. I treat everyone I work with the way I would want someone to treat my family. I believe in giving my clients and referral partners the kind of personal service they both need and deserve within the mortgage process, and a big part of that is having honest conversations. Saying what you mean, meaning what you say and following those words up with intentional action.”

Every Saturday on 97.1 FM from 9-10 a.m., Rebecca is a co-host on the “Hardcore Mortgage Show” sponsored by Capital Mortgage Funding. Each week they feature a real estate professional who joins the group to take live calls from their listening audience. “It’s a great interactive discussion that gives our referral partners a chance to connect with our listeners in a huge and different way,” Rebecca said. “It’s an opportunity to be real and candid, and talk about all the things that can come up when purchasing a home. Our guests can also be featured on the Hardcore Mortgage Podcast, which is on all major platforms and aired live on Facebook every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.” Looking back on her career up to this point, Rebecca said she would not trade any moments she experienced because it’s what has led her to where she is today. “To this day, I do not care how successful I may become; I will never forget where I started or about any prior struggles,” she said. “I am so grateful my parents gave me a strong foundation to stand on because that has always been a key factor in knowing who I am, and it gave me the confidence in moments of doubt to stay true to myself in all aspects of life.” On December 31, 2021, Rebecca married Miquel, the love of her life. Together, they have two beautiful daughters — Audriana, 14, and Taliyah, 9. When Rebecca’s not working, you can find her with friends and family having a good time and surrounded by love and laughter. She enjoys working out daily, snowboarding and playing with her dogs Cha-chi, Petrie and Chula. She also has an adorable Lionhead rabbit named Mopsy-Flopsy.
